We are very excited to announce that Update 200: Horses has just been released! Today marks one of the biggest milestones in War of Rights' development as horses officially arrive on the battlefields of the Maryland Campaign.
This has been one of our most ambitious undertakings to date. Bringing mounted gameplay to War of Rights required extensive work across animation, networking, gameplay systems, AI, audio, and countless technical improvements behind the scenes. From the very beginning, our goal has been to ensure that horses feel like a natural extension of the battlefield while maintaining the authenticity and immersion that define the game.
Over the past two weeks, thousands of you joined our public tests, helping us identify issues, refine mechanics, and prepare the update for release. We'd like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to participate and share feedback. Your reports and suggestions have played a major role in shaping today's release.
As always, we'll be closely monitoring server performance, gameplay balance, and your feedback over the coming days. Should any issues arise, we'll work to address them as quickly as possible through hotfixes and follow-up updates.
This milestone would not have been possible without the continued support of our incredible community. Whether you've been with us since the earliest days of Kickstarter and Early Access or have only recently enlisted, thank you for helping us reach this moment.
Campfire Chats - The Development of Horses
A few days ago, Cody, Bradley & George, hosts of the video series Campfire Chats, sat down with two of the key developers, Senior Programmer Michael Crossley and Animator Flemming Borgen, responsible for creating the horses and talked about the challenges and highlights thus far of bringing the most complex game feature of the game’s history to life.
Starting tonight, at 7 PM GMT+2, War of Rights will be 25% off for a week in order to celebrate the milestone of releasing horses in update 200! It is the perfect time to grab a copy, head into the stables to select your horse and bring it to partake in massive 400 player Civil War battles!

Today, four years after the development of horses for War of Rights began, we are immensely proud and excited to host the very first public tests of the addition of horses to the game, later to be fully released on July 17th!
Horse pre-release testing will run on the War of Rights Official Test Server between now and July 17. The dates and times of each session will be announced in advance.
The very first horse test is expected to go live within the next few hours from the time of this posting! Slots are limited for this test, so join the public test server now for your place in todays test.
We will be announcing whenever horses are available for testing on our Discord at: https://discord.gg/warofrights so please keep an eye out in the Announcements channel there if you wish to partake in multiple tests as we approach the July 17 release date of Update 200.
Let’s dive into the specifics of the contents of Update 200 and the pre-release public tests below!
For the first time in War of Rights, players will be able to take to the battlefield on a mount! The first thing players will notice is the addition of the new Cavalry Branch in the deployment menus, where both mounted and dismounted cavalry are located. The Cavalry Branch will be available on the historical skirmish maps that already feature dismounted cavalry, such as at Pry Ford; cavalry units will be accessible to both factions in the vast majority of Contention and Conquest game modes; and nearly all Drill Camp skirmish areas will also now feature Cavalry units. Mounts are also featured in the Drill Camp game mode, with Cavalry now having its own camp area. In all game modes, when playing as an officer of any branch, you will have the choice to ride atop a gallant steed.
First, to mount a horse, the player presses F when prompted at the saddle. Historically, cavalrymen dismounted on the left side—but you may dismount from whatever direction you are facing. Look left while pressing F, and you will dismount on the horse’s left side, provided no obstacles prevent you from doing so. Horses feature four movement gaits— the walk, trot, canter, and gallop—allowing you to adapt your speed to any situation using the W and S keys. While riding, you can steer using the standard movement controls A and D keys.
There is also an oversteering mechanism that, while using the left shift key, your horse will shift its weight and pivot around its front legs, enabling much tighter turns than would otherwise be possible. At higher speeds, horses will be capable of jumping obstacles such as fences and other battlefield obstructions using the spacebar.
Mounted players will have access to a wide range of equipment. From horseback, you'll be able to use carbines, pistols, swords, flags, and binoculars. While mounted, you can choose to holster your weapons and take the reins with both hands by pressing the H key. Horses can also be used offensively. Soldiers struck by a moving horse will be knocked to the ground, while players already on the ground risk being trampled and killed beneath the horse’s hooves.
Being able to move in formation has also been a major focus of development. Horses are able to strafe and reverse using the left control key, providing riders with more precise control of their mount. In addition, a new “parade mode” is toggle-able with the C key, allowing riders to automatically match infantry marching speeds, meaning it's easy to move alongside less equestrian troops!
To help bring these horses to life, we've introduced a variety of dynamic animal behaviours. Unattended horses may graze when suitable foliage is nearby, and they may tend to their natural needs throughout the battle. While trained for combat, nearby explosions and sustained gunfire can still startle them, causing visible reactions depending on both the severity of the disturbance and the horse's temperament. Should an unattended horse be hurt, it will flee. Finally, riders will have access to various emotes on horseback, like pointing with M1, saluting with F5, and rearing using the P key.
For those of you who enjoy customization, you'll notice a brand-new section in the customization menu: the Stables. This is where you'll be able to customize your horse and preview its appearance before heading onto the battlefield.
Cavalry units have had their arsenal updated as they now have access to an overhauled Sharps Carbine 1859 created using a 3D scan of an original weapon as a base to ensure that every detail is right.
Update 200 is introducing the foundations of mounted warfare, but we're already looking ahead to future additions. Planned features include horses being able to pull cannons, limbers, and supply wagons; the ability to tether horses to fences and stakes or lead horses on foot by the reins; swimming; and additional horse and saddle customizations.
We at Campfire Games are excited to see you all during the pre-release public testing and look forward to experiencing Update 200 alongside you when it fully releases on July 17th!
Before we close, we want to thank everyone for playing our time-limited event, 1776; and also best wishes to our American friends as they celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence!
That's all for today. We look forward to seeing you and your trusted steed on the battlefield!

Hello everyone,
Today, we’re pleased to announce the release of an all-new Alpha update, containing the biggest balance changes in War of Rights history, thanks to our recently introduced statistics tracking feature. Today’s update also includes major visual and audible improvements to the environments of War of Rights.
Work on the greatly anticipated Update 200 is still ongoing and we cannot wait to share more details about it with you in the near future, that being said, let’s dive into the specifics of today’s update below!
Skirmish Balance Overhaul
A month ago, we introduced stat tracking features to the game via a hotfix and we have now gathered enough of a pool of matches, allowing us to take the first steps towards a more equal and competitive War of Rights. Today’s initial balance overhaul is built on the collected data of 959 recorded Skirmish matches from the past month, all containing at least 100 players on the server from both public and organized/passworded rounds. The objective for today’s Skirmish Balance Overhaul is to come as close as possible to an average 0-0 ticket score (the hidden, determining factor for the 4 morale stages Battle Ready, Engaged, Taking Losses & Breaking) for the two factions at the end of each Skirmish round. A few Skirmish areas, such as Pry House and Piper Farm, were surprisingly close to even already; the vast majority of Skirmish areas, however, were in need of rather major adjustments.
It is worth noting that an average even 0-0 ticket score at the end of a specific Skirmish area does not necessarily mean that an average 50% win/loss chance of each faction is guaranteed. There are multiple factors at play in this, such as the strength of the end game events (Final Push and Last Stand), and thus we expect to continue to tweak these on a per-area basis. In short, players should expect much closer games on average from a morale stage standpoint.
As new metas form, and new features are introduced/tweaked, we’ll of course continue to balance the game with every major Alpha update going forward.
Balance & Environmental Pass Patch Notes
Added the first major balance pass based on tracked server data. This will be an ongoing process as the game and metas evolve.
Overhauled all tree and bush models in the game with bigger, more realistic leafed branches, resulting in better optimization as well as more accurate branch bending in stormy weather conditions.
Overhauled the bending settings of all trees, bushes and cornstalks.
Increased the visual fidelity of the grass up-close in-game.
Overhauled the user interface screen shown once a player becomes a casualty in-game, now containing more descriptive comparisons between the three formation states (In Formation, Skirmishing and Out of Line), as well as informing the player what caused his incapacitation.
Major game audio code pass, resulting in much more localized and reactive sounds based on your surroundings in-game. Also added new sounds to the forests, fields and interiors of the game.
Added the 16th Connecticut Infantry, a new playable regiment to the game, replacing the 9th New York in the Hill’s Counterattack Skirmish area, Antietam. Organized in Hartford, Connecticut on August 24, 1862, the men of the 16th Connecticut had all of about three weeks to train in the fundamentals of drill and to get acquainted with army camp life. They did so, at least initially, without uniforms, tents, rifles, or even a Colonel to command them. On September 16, 1862, the men in their freshly issued uniforms loaded their muskets for the first time. They expected their regiment to be held in reserve during the coming battle. The following day, however, the 16th Connecticut had the immense misfortune to be the leading unit struck by the veteran regiments of General A. P. Hill’s late afternoon counterattack. They were so green, it is reported the flag bearer forgot to uncase the colors. In any case, after agonizing minutes of chaos under crossfire, the regiment broke.
Overhauled the Springfield M1842 musket with a new model and texture using a 3D scan of an original musket as its base.
Overhauled the Mississippi M1841 rifle with a new model and texture using a 3D scan of an original rifle as its base.
Overhauled the player interpolation code of the game - in short how the delay between player positions on the server and the clients is shown, resulting in less players getting seemingly stuck on objects such as fences or interiors of houses, running in place, and teleporting forward after a while.
Fixed the double bayonet visual issue while the attachment animation is playing.
Fixed the broken spawns of Crecy’s Cornfield Skirmish area, Drill Camp.
Possibly fixed a crash when interacting with artillery pieces.
Re-enabled the previously announced feature of server slot reserving, allowing the player to reconnect to the server at the last location had he previously suffered a disconnect as well as bypass having to wait for a new server slot to open up on a full server.
Brought the weapons closer to the head of the player when they are aimed for a clearer sight picture.
The point of contention icons now get more and more inaccurate the further away from them you are in-game. This is an added feature to avoid players mindlessly hitting the exact area of the point using the icon as a guide.

Hello everyone,
Today, we’re excited to bring you our final update of 2025: Maryland, My Maryland!
As 2025 draws to a close, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what a fantastic year it has been. We pushed our server count up to 400, overhauled ballistics, introduced scoped rifles, and twice broke our concurrent player peak, first with the 1776 Limited Event and later with The Risen Dead, making this year truly unforgettable.
We want to take a moment to thank our community for its ongoing support. We can’t wait to continue this journey with you all in 2026. The limited-time events this year were a lot of fun and allowed us to explore some unique experiences, but we feel they’re in a great place now, and in 2026, our focus is back on the Civil War, delivering the core battles and experiences that make War of Rights so special.
This update also lays a lot of important groundwork for our next major release: Update 200. We’re not quite ready to reveal all the details yet, but it’s safe to say it’s a highly requested feature and long overdue!
That said, there’s still plenty to dive into in today’s update, so let’s get started!
Christmas Event
Winter has once again come to Maryland! The autumn-clad countryside is now transformed into a bitterly cold, snowy landscape for the rest of the Christmas season. Snow, like rain, now interacts with our new cloud system, shaping the battlefield in new and dynamic ways.
It’s time to bundle up in style with the addition of great coats! During the event, you can snag a coat for your character by finding one in Santa’s presents, which magically tumble onto the battlefield. Keep your eyes sharp as Santa himself (aka our developers) will also be running around handing out coats to anyone on the nice list. But beware: the naughty list is real, so make sure you behave if you want one! And remember, these festive coats are only wearable while the Christmas event is active, so be sure to enjoy them while winter lasts!
Snowballs are back! But beware; Johnny Reb isn’t playing fair; some snowballs have stones! Headshots will knock enemies down, and a few snowballs while they’re down or another headshot will take them out.
In addition, we’ll be hosting snowball-only skirmishes on the official test server on December 19th and 20th at 6PM EST. Get ready for some frosty fun and may the best snow-thrower win!
Community Survey
As the year comes to a close, it’s time once again for the War of Rights community survey! If you haven’t had a chance to fill it out yet, please take a few moments to do so. Your feedback is absolutely invaluable as it helps us understand what you love, what you’d like to see improved, and how we can make the game even better for everyone. We really appreciate your input and can’t wait to continue shaping the game together with the community in 2026!
We’ve heard your feedback about not always knowing if your microphone is working or whether you’re actually transmitting. To address this, we’ve added a mic status icon that appears when you push to talk and shows if any audio is being transmitted. For those who prefer a clean, HUD-free, immersive experience, this icon can be turned off in the options.
We thought artillery was getting a bit left out in the character customizer, so we’ve given it its very own patch of land next to an artillery battery, complete with some new poses for photo mode. Now artillerists can really show off, strike a pose, or just look impressively explosive! And don’t worry as infantry can also access the battery location for some extra photo opportunities.
Lastly, we’ve added a temporary slot reservation for servers. In the event of a crash or timeout, you’ll have a three-minute window to rejoin and fully restore your character exactly where you left off. Check out the patch notes below for all the other additions and fixes!
Winter Update Patch Notes
Drill camp skirmish areas no longer crash the game.
Added support for 3-minute server slot reservation after game client crashes and timeouts. The player's character also persists during this time, and provided it has not been killed, the player will be fully restored to wherever they stood.
Potentially fixed the rendering bug resulting in an occasional, temporary temporally smudged portal to another dimension.
Added a speaking voice indicator, so that you know when your microphone is active and transmitting.
Slightly optimized level load times.
Fixed loading screens sometimes showing the main menu stuck on top.
Fixed an issue where Precipitation, Fog and Wind would be locked from the start of a round.
Added a new area to the character customizer.
Added new animations for artillery units in the character customizer.
Overhauled Piper Farm House.
That’s all for now! We hope you enjoy the Christmas holidays and New Year, and look forward to sharing another great year together.

You have already faced the horrors that consumed Harpers Ferry and the Drill Camp, but now the earliest reports from Antietam have reached your hands. The fields of Sharpsburg lie in shadow, haunted by the first stirrings of the plague. It is time for you to fight in the first major battle, where the undead first rose.
Field Report – Sharpsburg, Maryland, September 29, 1862
Sir,
It has been several days since the guns fell silent at Antietam, yet the fields show no peace. The dead still carpet the ground, their faces fixed in silence beneath a black sky. The stench of decay grows thicker with each passing hour, carried on a wind that feels colder than it should for this season.
Men speak in hushed tones of something unholy moving among the fallen, a black rot that crawls across the earth as though the very soil were poisoned by all the blood spilled here. Even the crows have begun to fall from the sky, their bodies stiff and blotched before they hit the ground.
Orders arrived this evening. We are to fall back to Burnside’s Bridge and join with what remains of the Confederate line to stem the advance. None among us thought such words would ever be written, yet no man questions them now. Whatever comes from the darkness makes no distinction between blue or gray.
The men are gathering again near the bridge, determined to hold the line one last time. I will join them soon. If this letter finds its way home, tell my family I fought to the end, though I fear this may be the last I ever write.
— Cpl. J. Whitaker, 10th United States Regulars

Union and Confederate alike had long struggled to keep the risen dead confined to Harpers Ferry, yet now their plague had seeped into northern Maryland. Quiet farms and scattered army drill camps, once peaceful and orderly, now lay under a fragile dawn. The pale sun rose slowly, casting long, trembling shadows across the fields, as if the land itself sensed the coming horror.
A cold, creeping fog rolled in, winding between fences and over crops, thick and almost alive. Within its ghostly veil, the dead stirred — shuffling, moaning, and reaching toward anything that moved. The fog swallowed sound and shape alike, turning the tranquil landscape into a waking nightmare where each step forward might bring the living face to face with the relentless dead.
Risen Dead Event 07/10/2025 Patch notes

The bell still tolls for the dead of the Maryland campaign. Blue and gray laid to rest in countless shallow graves across the battle-scared countryside. This night, however, some ancient evil stirs in the wind, rustling the autumn-clad leaves and disturbing the freshly dug dirt. They are here!
We’re excited to announce that “The Risen Dead” event is now live! Band together, Johnny Reb and Billy Yank, or die alone to the hordes of the living dead! Supporting 150 players battling up to 800 zombies at once, “The Risen Dead” Halloween event of War of Rights continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in an FPS game while still maintaining a focus on teamwork at a massive scale.
Use the all-new buildable fortifications, player abilities and upgradeable weapons to defend against the endless hordes, but keep an eye out for the spread of the risen dead!
Fortifications & Fieldworks
Here's the place we'll make our stand! Brace yourselves – the dead do not rest, and neither shall you. In this year's event, the living may now prepare the battlefield with new means of defense against the relentless tide.
Between each stage, players will have 2 minutes to spend their bounty cash (earned by returning the risen dead back to their, hopefully, eternal slumber once more) to upgrade weapons, refresh health and ammunition, and also to place fortifications exclusive to the Risen Dead event. All of this and more is accessible via a "shop," representing a cache of supplies delivered by unseen help to each point of contention.
Gabions – Woven wicker baskets, filled with earth and stone, now stand ready to blunt the charge of the shambling masses. A humble barrier, but one that may mean the difference between life and an early grave.
Cheval de Frise – Rows of sharpened stakes, driven into stout frames, now line your defenses. Any of the undead foolish enough to stumble against them will find their advance met with splinters.
Palisade Wall – Hewn logs, set firm into the ground, rise high against the press of the horde. Tall and unyielding, a wall to hold the line when all else falters.
Stand fast, build well, and remember: it is not just the shot nor the bayonet alone that keeps death at bay.
The Spread of the Horde
Following last year’s defense of Harpers Ferry, survivors will return once more to face the first waves. The familiar streets and bridges will again be stained with blood, but the dead have grown bolder.
The undead have been sighted spreading through Antietam, across the rolling fields of South Mountain, and into the dense forests surrounding the Drill Camp. As the event continues, additional battlefields will open, offering new ground to defend and new horrors to face.
New Horrors Awakened
The clash of musket and cannon against the restless dead has shaken the very earth. From the smoldering soil, a terror unlike any yet faced now rises: a colossal beast of shadow and flame, whispered by the trembling few who survive its presence as The Inferno Titan.
For those hardened companies who endure the slaughter to Wave 15, this new trial awaits. The Titan’s form towers above all others, its molten fury searing the night. To bring it down will demand unity of fire, precision volleys, and unmatched artillery coordination. Only the most disciplined of regiments will prevail. Triumph here is not just survival—it is the key to unlocking this year’s special achievement, earned only by slaying the Titan across every battlefield.
With the awakening of the Inferno Titans, the undead grow more clever and more dangerous. The brutes now wield a terrifying strength, wrenching boulders from the earth itself and hurling them toward the living. These stones crush flesh and timber alike—no line, no wall, no soldier is safe from their barrage of stone.
Upgrades, Equipment and Abilities
New Upgrades and Weapons
Torch Bearer Upgrades – The Torch Bearer now has a dedicated set of upgrades, which can be purchased to improve the deployment speed of players in the spawn queue.
Scoped Whitworth – A new addition to the weapon pool, the scoped Whitworth comes with a unique upgrade to increase bullet velocity, making long-range shots even deadlier.
Improved Artillery – Artillery effectiveness has been greatly enhanced for the Risen Dead event. Explosive shells now deal damage over a much wider area against the undead. With direct hits stunning Brutes and Titans alike. The Spongerammer can also be upgraded to load and interact with artillery pieces more quickly, keeping the guns firing at full pace.
Abilities
Officers of both the Confederacy and Union now have new tools available in the shop:
Artillery Strike – Designate a target area for off-map artillery to bombard, clearing the dead and disrupting their advance.
Morale Boost – Rally your men on the field, granting double damage for a short duration as courage spreads through the ranks.
After purchasing their new abilities, officers can bring up the ability menu mid-game by pressing H and deploy them.
Increased Player Count
This year, the battlefield swells with even more defenders. The player count for the event has been raised from 100 to 150, giving your regiments greater strength but with every new soldier comes an even greater threat. The undead have multiplied accordingly, with up to 800 zombies on screen at once, pressing from every direction.
Prepare for larger engagements, relentless waves, and the ultimate test of teamwork. Stand firm and make your mark with us in one of the largest cooperative shooter events ever staged.
Regular Content Additions
We know the reanimation of dead tissue isn’t everyone’s cup of (sweet) tea, so we also have some content additions for regular War of Rights which is not part of the time-limited Risen Dead event.
Years ago, when we introduced the Pry Ford and Grist Mill skirmish areas, we included in these fictional scenarios an unusual hybrid unit of infantry and cavalry for the Confederates, designated Holcombe’s Legion. The only problem with this is that the cavalry and infantry portions of the historical Holcombe’s Legion were never mixed as depicted in-game, and the mounted portion (dismounted in-game) had been on detached service for some months before the Maryland Campaign. Today, we have replaced this incorrect Legion on the Pry Ford and Grist Mill areas of the Antietam skirmish rotation with a new, historical Legion.
Introducing Jeff. Davis Legion
We are proud to introduce the Jeff. Davis Legion, a Mississippi battalion brigaded with Wade Hampton's cavalry during the Maryland Campaign that consisted of three companies of Mississippians, two companies of Alabamians, and one company of Georgians. Players will find in this new Mississippi unit a new battle flag, an assortment of new jackets (including a very fancy early war shell and matching trousers), and new Mississippi and Alabama buttons and buckles representing the historical composition of this unit. The Jeff. Davis Legion appears dismounted in the Pry Ford and Grist Mill skirmish areas on Antietam, equipped with Sharps carbines, sabres, and an assortment of pistols.
Our historians can also finally let out a sigh of relief that Holcombe’s Legion is now, at long last, brought up to historical standards. These South Carolinians, now appropriately portrayed as a regiment of infantry sporting Enfield Rifles, are now featured on Crecy's Cornfield in the Drill Camp rotation.
Appearing alongside Holcombe Legion at Crecy's Cornfield is a unit that for many years has only been accessible in War of Rights in the Confederate drill camp. We are very happy to say that the Third Alabama Infantry is now finally ready to redeploy in combat. This regiment now also features a new National flag and some other updated materials, including the aforementioned Alabama buttons and buckles.

Hello everyone,
Today, we’re excited to bring you Update 199: 400 Player Support to War of Rights!
As the title suggests, this update increases the official player cap from 350 to 400 players per server. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg in today’s update—there’s much more to announce, explore and enjoy.
Before we get into all the excitement of today’s update, we want to take a moment to celebrate three amazing people who have risen from the ranks in our incredible community to become valuable contributors at Campfire Games.
Where Passion Meets Profession: Players Become Developers
With today’s update, we’re proud to highlight both new and long-standing developers who began as members of our community. Their passion and deep connection to War of Rights brings valuable insight as they help us continue to improve and expand the game.
At its core, War of Rights is a game with a dedicated, passionate, and knowledgeable community. Without your deep interest in the subject matter, your constant efforts in fostering an immersive experience for everyone, filled with a big focus on teamplay and roleplaying, the game would likely never have gotten to where it is today.
We’re thrilled to formally present three former community members who are now part of the Campfire Games family. We’ll be highlighting some of the exciting projects they’re working on and celebrate one of them reaching their 5-year anniversary with us!
Get ready to shave those beards and powder those wigs. Today, we are proud to announce 1776, an all-new addition to our growing roster of time-limited annual events, which commemorates the War for Independence.
We’re extremely excited to announce this all-new addition to War of Rights, marking Independence Day in style. Kicking off on July 1st and running through Independence Day and the weeks that follow, this special event lets you step into the Revolutionary War and fight for liberty as an American patriot—or for the Crown as a loyal British subject!
This immersive dive into the Revolutionary War features a host of new content: historically inspired regiments, period-authentic weapons, unique flags, updated animations, refreshed UI elements, and more.
This event wouldn’t be possible without the incredible work of Morgan Seifer, known in the community as Pingu, who recently joined Campfire Games. A longtime contributor and passionate history enthusiast, Morgan has brought this vision to life with remarkable attention to detail, and we’re thrilled to have him on the team.
We cannot wait to head back, “four score and seven years ago” to 1776 and experience the flintlock musket action together with all of you! This time limited event begins on July 1st.
A new Campfire Games Video Series: Campfire Chats
Today, we’re excited to launch Campfire Chats—a brand-new developer video series from Campfire Games, inspired by the classic George’s Corner videos. In this series, we’ll cover War of Rights gameplay, recent updates, announcements, and dive into historical discussions—plus much more!
Campfire Chats is hosted by our brand-new Marketing Specialist, Cody Karov—better known in the War of Rights community as General Cody HD, a bit of a legend for creating hundreds of standout YouTube videos about the game. He’s joined by Clark Morningstar, Campfire Games’ veteran historian, scriptwriter, narrator, sometimes singer, and more—known to the community as GeorgeCrecy. Rounding out the trio is Bradley Smith, our talented texture artist, battle flag connoisseur, and fellow historian, also known as Chaplain Bradley in the community.
Campfire Chats launches today on our Youtube channel as well as in the media section of our website and we expect to be publishing bi-monthly episodes for you all to enjoy!
Launching alongside the 1776 event on July 1st is a complete overhaul of the game’s atmospherics, cloud systems, and weather effects. First up are major improvements to cloud shape and formation. The skies now feature more natural, defined cloud structures—replacing the previously noisy and uniform appearance.
Rain and storm clouds are now physically simulated and move dynamically across the battlefield. You’ll be able to see them forming and rolling in from the horizon, giving you time to prepare for dramatic shifts in weather. In fact, it’s now possible for one part of the battlefield to be caught in a downpour while another remains completely dry.
Atmospheric effects and fog have also been significantly upgraded, with enhanced visuals and extended visibility. These improvements integrate seamlessly with the new cloud systems, creating striking sunbeams and more immersive weather conditions. A new weather type—thick, oppressive fog—has been added as well, offering a moody and intense battlefield experience.
Lastly, a new dynamic wind system has been introduced, affecting how grass, trees, and gun smoke behave in the environment.
These new features will continue to be developed and refined after launch, and we’re excited about the new visuals, variety and atmosphere they will add to future matches.
Shadow Improvements
In today’s game update. we’re excited to bring a visual upgrade that adds even more depth and realism to the battlefield. Screen Space Shadows with Micro Detail. This enhancement allows for finer, more accurate shadowing on small geometry and surface details—making everything from subtle protrusions in the terrain to intricate object edges feel more grounded and visually rich.
It also improves how surfaces receive shadows, preventing them from looking flat or overly uniform. This added depth brings out the texture and shape of the environment, helping everything feel more three-dimensional and alive. Furthermore, we’ve also significantly extended shadow draw distances, allowing for greater visual fidelity across our large environments.
This is our own adapted and enhanced take on the brilliant work by Bend Studio, originally presented at SIGGRAPH. If you're interested in the technical details, you can learn more here: Inside Bend: Screen Space Shadows.
New War of Rights Website Released!
As many of you may have noticed, a few months ago we quietly launched our new website at warofrights.com. It brings much-needed visual and functional improvements compared to our previous site—which, at over 13 years old, was showing its age. This is also the first important step towards the integration of Service Records, detailed HERE. None of this would have been possible without the expert web development skills of yet another recent addition to the Campfire Games development team, Anthony Wiedman—known in the community as molex. Before joining CG, Anthony created several popular War of Rights-focused web tools, and we’re thrilled to have him on the team. The quality of his work speaks for itself!
Flags, Flags Everywhere!
We’d like to round this community-member-turned-developer presentation off with an honorable mention of Bradley Smith, who has just celebrated his 5-year anniversary as a Texture Artist and Historian at Campfire Games! Bradley was a long-term community member and original crowdfunder of the game before he became a developer (to the great joy of every player with a deep interest in battle flags or just historicity in general!). In many ways, his joining the team was a trailblazing moment, expanding the scope and pushing at the settled team composition that would eventually lead to us being able to present to you today the three old War of Rights community members turned into new Campfire Games developers!
Happy 5-year anniversary Bradley, and here’s to five more and thanks for leading the way (and for the flags!)
We hope you all enjoyed our presentation and are looking forward to the many upcoming additions to the game (in-game as well as outside of it!).
Now, let’s dive into the patch notes of today’s update below!

Hello everyone,
Today we’re happy to be bringing you the first alpha update of 2025 to War of Rights, titled Update 198: Scopes, Sights & Ballistics!
The primary focus of today’s update is to overhaul the ballistics of all small arms fire within the game, improve rifle zeroing handling and sight pictures, and introduce highly limited scoped variants of the Whitworth and Sharps rifles to the game.
Let’s dive into the details below!
Scoped Sharpshooting Rifles
Although they will be exceedingly rare, rifles with mounted scopes make their debut in War of Rights with the introduction of the four-powered scoped Whitworth and six-powered Sharps rifles. These technological marvels of their day are currently limited to the NCO ranks of 1st Sergeant and Sergeant Major of the regiments deployed with either Whitworth or Sharps rifles;
CSA
1st North Carolina Sharpshooters 5th Alabama Battalion Palmetto Sharpshooters
USA
1st U.S. Sharpshooters 2nd U.S. Sharpshooters 42nd Pennsylvania 5th New York
The Union exclusive 6-powered long-rifle Malcolm telescope available on the Sharps rifle is a direct replacement of the iron sights of that rifle, while the Confederate exclusive 4-powered scope on the Whitworth rifle is a side-mounted scope, allowing you to not only change views between the scope and iron sights by pressing Z while aiming, but also to adjust the zeroing on the iron sights of the Whitworth.
Bayonets are not issued to either of the two scoped rifles.
Overhauled Sight Handling
All rifle sights in-game now work as intended, mimicking their real-world counterparts. Changing your rifle zeroing is now accomplished by using the mouse wheel (up or down) while aiming your rifle. The zeroing of the sight is now visually maintained even when you do not aim and networked so that other players can see your zeroing adjustments.
Overhauled Ballistics
In Update 198: Scopes, Sights & Ballistics, the ballistics of the rifles have received a major overhaul to ensure range zeroing is precise and functional. Furthermore; the randomized bullet spread, representative of variance in ammunition qualities, has been drastically decreased in order to more closely mimic the characteristics of the ballistics of the real-world counterparts to the in-game rifles.
Left: old random bullet spread vs right: new 60% decreased random bullet spread.
Other ballistic changes include a damage dropoff to buck and ball pellets and pistol balls at distances beyond 33 yards. In short, this means that you may be able to survive a hit at a distance of a smaller round if you are at full health.
Update 198 Patch Notes
Added scoped variants of the Whitworth and Sharps rifles, available to 1st Sergeants and Sergeant Majors of the units issued with the non-scoped variants of the weapons in question.
Decreased the random bullet spread of the M1841 Mississippi, M1853 Enfield, M1854 Lorenz, M1855 Springfield and M1861 Springfield rifles by 60% to more closely mimic their real-world counterparts.
Decreased the random bullet spread of the M1859 Sharps rifle by 70% to more closely mimic its real-world counterparts.
Decreased the random bullet spread of the Whitworth rifle by 90% to more closely mimic its real-world counterparts.
Slightly reduced the muzzle velocity of the Sharps carbine.
Added a dropoff damage to buck and ball pellets and pistol balls related to distance travelled.
Overhauled zeroing the rifle sights, resulting in a cleaner gameplay experience.

Hello everyone,
As the year draws to an end, we’re excited to be bringing you the 197th alpha update to War of Rights titled Drill Camp Skirmishes today!
The last major update of 2024 includes several new additions that are bound to shake up the game and a fair few improvements, as well. Let’s dive into the content of Update 197: Drill Camp Skirmishes below!
13 New Drill Camp Skirmishes
Today’s update expands the ever popular Skirmish game mode by introducing 13 additional Skirmish areas situated on the Drill Camp level. Each of the 13 new Skirmish areas are roughly the same size as that of the Dunker Church Skirmish (one of the 3 very first Skirmish areas ever released). When playing the new Skirmish areas, players can expect the same attention to detail as found throughout the rest of War of Rights thanks to the diverse nature of the Drill Camp level; Farms, roads, fields, forests, army camps and much more are all part of the Civil War experience awaiting you.
Victory screens make a return to these new Skirmish areas, however instead of showing generic ranks of men and their officers at the conclusion of the round, this skirmish rotation will feature the actual players who participated on the winning side of the battle, complete with their customized appearances. This new variation is a work-in-progress and only features infantry, at this time.
Last, but certainly not least, is the return of the historical narration and flybys between each Skirmish area. Our two historians, George & Bradley, have written as well as narrated a series covering 13 different topics detailing the life of the soldier during the Civil War. We hope you’ll find them interesting while you ready yourself for the next battle!
Please note that the initial balance of the 13 new Skirmish areas is subject to change as mass testing gets going, starting today.
Snake Rail Fence Destructibility
Update 197 expands the destructibility system of the game to also include snake rail fences. These were often used by farmers to keep livestock out of their fields at the time of the Civil War and are thus prominently featured within War of Rights. The snake rail fences can be destroyed by artillery fire as well as rifle fire and will undoubtedly shake up the flow of many battles to come!
That’s Some Yankee Wallpaper!
The development of War of Rights began more than 12 years ago, and thus a lot of graphical iterations have been required throughout the years in order to keep the game up to date visually. One of the areas that haven’t seen much if any visual improvement for the past decade is the wallpaper textures of the game. In update 197 this is remedied by an introduction of 8 era appropriate wallpaper designs for the Sherrick and Roulette farmhouses.
We’ll continue to push for visual improvements throughout the lifetime of the game, no matter how small or insignificant they might seem individually as they all add up in time.
Steam Winter Sale, Snowy Wonderland & So Long ‘24
Starting today, War of Rights is part of Steam’s Winter Sale and 50% off for the next two weeks! Now is a perfect time to jump in and experience the new Skirmish areas, complete with historical narration and area transitions.
The big Winter Sale is certainly upon us, but that is not the only wintery event that is happening in War of Rights; The Christmas event is currently active, turning the lush countryside of Maryland into a bitterly cold and snowy winter landscape until the end of Christmas. So head in-game and experience the snowy winter weather and a chance of getting a present from Santa - if you’ve been nice this year, that is!
As 2024 draws to an end we’d like to thank everyone within the War of Rights community for making it possible for us to continue into the 13th year of developing the game in an effort to make it the best possible 19th century warfare game that it possibly can be. We’re really excited for what’s to come in 2025 and we look forward to experiencing it with all of you.
Here’s to many more years of WoR with you all!

Hello everyone,
We’re excited to be bringing you the 196th alpha update titled Decaying Autumn to War of Rights today!
Today’s update includes several major visual overhauls to the game, a completion of the infantry unit customization, additional musician tunes, the return of autumn as well as a few spooky treats just in time for Halloween.. Let’s dive into the content of Update 196: Decaying Autumn below!
ATTENTION: Harpers Ferry To Be Quarantined!
Attention! A mysterious sickness has been reported to have been spreading throughout the town of Harpers Ferry in recent weeks and as such we expect the governor to issue a two-week long town-wide quarantine beginning on Thursday, 31st of October in order to evacuate the area. We hear reports of an unparalleled emergency requiring the aid of blue, brown and butternut clad soldiers alike!
Due to popular demand, the undead return to War of Rights in a revamped zombie mode. This update introduces multiple new types of undead, a shop for character and weapon upgrades, and an exciting new defense-based game mode “Onslaught” set in Harpers Ferry.
The core objective in this mode is to hold successive key points strategically, fending off the approaching zombie onslaught. Every point you lose pushes you back to the next, until you will be forced to make a final stand against the oncoming horde.
Teamwork is more crucial than ever with the introduction of a new undead type that can only be damaged after being stunned by a well-coordinated volley. This new horror will challenge even the most disciplined regiments and strike fear into the most stalwart of soldiers.
Returning for this event is the 'Torch Bearer' class. In lieu of the flag bearer class, the ‘Torch Bearer’ is armed with a signal torch. In addition to serving as a remote spawn point, the 'Torch Bearer' is the literal guiding light of the team, crucial for spotting the incoming risen dead and preventing them from overwhelming your position.
Additionally, a shop (accessible via the F key) is now available between waves, allowing players to purchase stronger, upgradable equipment. Earn money by defeating zombies and use it to unlock upgrades such as faster reload speed, reduced weapon sway, increased melee speed, and more. But be careful, you will lose all your equipment and upgrades should you perish!
Get ready for all the new spooky fun when it goes live tomorrow!
Global Illumination Overhaul
A big feature of Update 196 is a major overhaul of the lighting system (SVOTI) of the game. Expect much more realistic light bounces and less lighting and shadow artifacts as we continue to work on ensuring that War of Rights features cutting-edge tech and immersion.
The new Global Illumination has no fixed ambient color term and thus preserves the color of the bounced lighting much better, without washing it all out.
The new Global Illumination provides much more vivid bounce lighting due to the better color preservation of the particular surface the light bounces off of. It also allows small objects to occlude around them much more easily, where the bounce light can't reach, such as underneath the bed and around wooden furniture.
Grass & Terrain Improvements
For the first time since releasing on Steam, update 196 includes a major vegetation overhaul in the form of new grass, weeds, flowers, wheatfields and more. The bending of the grass has also been updated to simulate waves of wind blowing through the grass. The view distance of most vegetation assets (including trees) has been vastly increased for a more immersive battlefield experience (especially when spectating):
The new grass of War of Rights has a much longer draw distance than the old grass. Each individual blade of grass is also uniquely 3D modeled for a much better parallax effect when walking through the fields. All weeds and flowers have also been replaced by highly detailed models. The bending of the grass has been updated to show the various waves of wind blowing through the grass.
The dirt fields have been updated to display the plowing tracks at much longer distances and the dirt color has been changed to more closely match reference photos.
The sun rays that reach the forest floor now more easily bounce onto nearby objects in the forests as can be seen on the nearby trunk on the right that's colored somewhat orange, compared to the trunks further back in the more shaded part of the forest having a more neutral dark blue/gray color. Small objects in the forest now also more easily occlude the light underneath them, as can be seen on the nearby pile of rotten wood.
Cornstalks and other high density small to medium sized vegetation objects are now able to both occlude and bounce back the light on a need by need basis resulting in much more naturally looking cornfields at certain lighting conditions.
New max view distance of trees.
Overhauled all distance terrain textures for a much more realistic blend and look in the game.
Autumn Returns to War of Rights
The countryside of Maryland is once again clad in vibrant colors as autumn once more falls in War of Rights. Enjoy the golden spectacle in this time limited event starting tomorrow and lasting throughout the month of November!

Experience gained throughout a match cut short by leaving the server is now saved and rewarded to you if you reconnect to the server before the match has ended.
That’s all for today. We hope you will enjoy the overhauled visuals as we continue to work on keeping the game up to date and increasing its immersive aspect as best as we can. We look forward to be seeing you all on the golden fields of glory in Maryland.. As long as you have steered well clear of Harpers Ferry - something’s wrong with that place…

Hello everyone,
Today, we’re pleased to be bringing you the 195th alpha update to War of Rights!
After more than 2 years of testing player counts at 400 on the Official War of Rights Test Server and countless of optimization focused updates brought to you, we are now - at long last - at a point where we feel confident about raising the officially supported max player count on a server from 300 to 350. We opted to go with an incremental increase of an additional 50 players for this update because, as it stands, client performance for the last 50 players from 350 to 400 takes too big a toll, especially when not using the latest and greatest of hardware. However, fear not if you long for additional increases in the future: Our march towards a bigger and better performing digital battle will continue on throughout the lifetime of the game.
The new 350 player cap is now live and accessible via your server settings page at the G-portal site.
Update 195 contains a host of updates and tweaks to character models, buildings and animations, as well as several quality of life additions. Let’s dive into the details!
Update 195 Patch Notes
Increased the player cap from 300 to 350 for even bigger and more immersive Civil War battles.
Added Nicodemus barn to the game, replacing the placeholder Pry barn model used up until now. No photographs or drawings of the Nicodemus barn exist, and we have only the vaguest description of the structure, that it had a thatched-roof. Fortunately, journalists photographed and sketched both the exterior and interior of the nearby Smith barn while it served as a field hospital following the Battle of Antietam. Our model is inspired by these photographs and sketches of Smith barn, which also featured a thatched-roof.
Updates to Sherrick Farm.
Overhauled the Sherrick Summer Kitchen model and interior.
Added some new glassware filler props to the game.
Fixed LD Moore House Proxy: You should no longer become stuck in the stairwell.
Fixed the cellar doors of R. Miller Farm missing their collision.
Removed the legacy collision setup still present in some of the bushes at Harpers Ferry.
Tightened up the auto kick feature whenever a player is AFK for a set period on time while on a server in order to lessen the amount of server slots wasted by inactive players and to reduce the admin workload in clearing them out manually.
After more than a month of continual use with no downtime, it is now time for the backend server to replace the steam server browser in the game.
Fixed up a few potentially exploitable console commands that would give the user an unfair advantage.
Artillery canister team damage punishment effects now behave identically to artillery case and shell team damage as intended.
Joining a server mid-game will no longer result in bayonets not getting correctly updated, and thus appearing as if everyone in bayonet melee mode was in fact in rifle club melee mode for the joinee.
Fixed up the bullseye steam achievement not working reliably.
Artillery is no longer pushed when getting hit by small arms projectiles.
Artillery elevation screw inputs are now only applied when the player is fully seated and not during the enter/exit transition.
Exit melee mode animation fixes for when using the artillery sponge/rammer.
Animation corrections for fixing bayonets when standing and kneeling as well as when using shorter rifles.
Added sword and revolver specific fall and stand up animations, instead of just using the rifle ones.
Added a fall animation when you are kneeled and too close to an artillery blast.
Animations updates and tweaks for selecting/deselecting binoculars, pistols & swords.
Tweaks and fixes to the following animations: In Place Rest, Melee Mode Bayonet, Melee Mode Rifle, Order Arms Rifle, Parade Rest Rifle, At the Ready Rifle.
Animations updates to changing into Melee Mode using the rifle as a club while in sprint and back out of it again.
Animation fixes when standing up/kneeling down while wielding a pistol, binoculars, sword, sponge/rammer and colors.
Adjusted several movement animations while using a fife, bugle and drum.
Overhauled the 4th Alabama National “Bread flag” following a research trip to the Alabamian State Archives and personally inspecting the real world artifact.
Added the 20th Georgia and 20th North Carolina to the customizable units roster.
Several animation issue fixes related to canceling a reload mid-reload, resulting in spinning rifles (some issues are still present).
Added vault specific animations for vaulting while wielding a pistol, binocular, sword and flag.
Updated hair textures and materials (darkened the texture, sharpened the normals, increased the gloss, adjusted mipmap and alpha coverage). Also darkened the eyebrow materials.
Improved the McDowell cap model, matching its real world counterpart to a greater degree. Embroidery for officer’s McDowell caps will be added at a later time.
Updated the uniforms and kepi textures of the 8th Florida.
Various CSA rank insignia clipping issue fixes.
Changed the rank insignia shoulder board color of the 20th New York from sky blue to green.
Fixed artillery rounds being rotated 90 degrees in mid-flight.
Players now ragdollize and become corpses rather than disappear when they disconnect.
Bradley’s Bread Flag Recipe/State Archives Research Trip
Many folks will shrug at an updated texture, but a good deal of work and history can sometimes go into these ostensibly minor changes. Today, I want to bring you along on a recent research trip to the state archives in Montgomery, Alabama. From February to May 1861, Alabama's capitol served as the first capitol of the Confederacy before it was moved to Richmond. The Department of Archives & History and the Museum of Alabama are located across the street from the capitol.
Alabama’s state capitol in Montgomery
The museum spans all of Alabama history, with artifacts associated with the earliest Native Americans of Alabama, the War of 1812, World War One and Two, Hank Williams, and so on. A very large portion of the museum covers the American Civil War, and visitors will encounter several uniforms and accouterments, muskets and revolvers, shells, and flags on display.
The Museum of Alabama
I spent most of the day not in the museum, but in the archives and specifically in the state’s massive collection of Confederate battle flags. It was surreal to see the scars of combat on many of these flags. Bullet holes, shrapnel tears, powder burns, and even blood stains testify to the horrors of war. Men died horrible, violent deaths carrying these flags. Again, an updated texture may seem superfluous until one considers what these artifacts witnessed.
A detailed look at a Confederate battleflag.
My primary objective was to inspect the Marion Light Infantry, carried by the 4th Alabama Infantry at First Manassas and as late as Summer 1862, and update the existing texture many in our community (lovingly or mockingly) refer to as the “bread flag.”
The old “bread flag” of the 4th Alabama.
The 4th Alabama Infantry’s “Stars and Bars” was one of the first flags that I produced for War of Rights and because of the unavailability of high-resolution reference photographs, it was one that we had always planned on improving upon whenever a research trip to view the flag in person became possible.
The reverse of the flag features three lines of text and each line is a unique, highly decorative font style. In the updated texture, this text is no longer a placeholder font style but is now entirely hand-painted, like the artifact. We also knew it would be necessary to consult with the archivists about what they knew of the general features of the cotton bale painted on the front of the flag, as the image has completely faded from the artifact. Much of the detailed work in the cotton bale is educated guesswork on my part, but the proportion and general outline are exact to the artifact. Lastly, I had questions about the construction of the flag itself, and was able to see just how this banner is assembled. Curiously, I discovered the canton was sewn onto the flag after the text and the cotton bale had already been completed.
The decorative text on the artifact, compared with the updated texture.
We’re very pleased with the updated texture and hope you enjoyed this behind-the-scenes look.
The updated flag of the 4th Alabama.

Service Records
In today’s field report, we are introducing a new upcoming community focused feature: Service Records. Service Records are the successor to the Company Tool and the next stage of the “Veterancy” update.
In the soon-to-be overhauled War of Rights website at: https://www.warofrights.com/ you’ll be able to login to your all-new Service Records profile using your Steam account in order to dive deep into your War of Rights stats, match history, rewards, seasonal leaderboards, units and more. Let’s take a closer look at how!
Profiles, Stat Tracking, Match History and Rewards
Service Records are the central hub for showcasing your involvement in War of Rights. They provide a detailed history of your achievements, participation, and connection to the community.
Service Records will be available to view in-game and on our website.
All official matches will be recorded, with replays accessible to all. Your profile will keep a comprehensive history of your matches, enabling you to review statistics, analyze replays, and see details about participating players and units. To ensure fairness and prevent team swapping, you will be marked on whichever team you spent the most time on during the match. Additionally, a minimum playtime is required to be recognized as a match participant.
With Service Records, we will also be gradually rolling out new kinds of unlockables. This could be anything from Service Record specific rewards, such as profile pictures, borders and banners, to in-game rewards like additional character customization options, emotes, and more.
Leaderboards & Seasons
With the introduction of Service Records, we are also rolling out leaderboards to enable players to compare progress and statistics. To ensure fairness and provide opportunities for all players, including newcomers, we will track progress across different seasons. This seasonal approach allows everyone a chance to compete effectively.
Top performers will receive end of season rewards to commend their commitment and accomplishments.
Units
Units are the evolution of the Company Tool and serve as the central hub for each War of Rights regiment, company, or clan.
This feature allows your group to be managed effectively and tracks your collective progress as a unit in Service Records. By playing and collaborating as a unit, you can unlock additional rewards and content. Your unit will also be placed together on the leaderboards, allowing you to compare your teamwork skills against others.
Like your personal Service Record, the unit hub can also be customized by your unit leader with unlockables earned together as a unit.
Units have a range of new features compared to the Company Tool:
Level: Just like players, Units can play qualifying matches together to earn experience and increase in level signified by a special unit green wreath.
Automatic Tags: Customize your unit tags to automatically display on unit members' names in-game, with options to include their rank and unit number.
Ranks: Manage your unit members effectively by assigning ranks or groups within the unit. During events, you can configure settings to restrict members to their respective ranks.
Match History: Games played with a sufficient number of unit members will be recorded in your unit's match history. This will impact your unit’s statistics and position in the unit leaderboards. Passworded matches will also be recorded and marked specially as event games.
Unit Achievements: Collaborate within your unit to unlock achievements together.
Challenges: Your unit leader will be able to select from a pool of bi-weekly challenges which if completed collaboratively will reward both the unit and the participating players with service record and in-game unlockables.
And more…
Toxicity
We are committed to improving the gaming experience in War of Rights and addressing the ongoing issue of disruptive players. To achieve this, we are introducing a global ban system and an offense tracking mechanism.
Key changes will include:
Global Bans: Bans exclusively issued by developers will now apply across all servers, not just specific ones. Each ban will be permanently recorded on the player's profile and will impact their standing within the community. A record of when they were banned, for what reason and who by will be stored.
Offense System: After accumulating five bans (serious offenses), a player will face a permanent ban from the game, and will not be permitted on any server official or otherwise. Minor offenses can also be issued which are for minor infractions that don’t constitute a strike on your profile and while recorded won’t affect your profile standing.
Community server admins are not able to issue any serious or minor offenses to anyone. Those are strictly developer issued strikes to the Service Records profile of the offender. Community server admins can continue to kick and ban on their server as they have been able to do up until now without any of those penalties showing up as any kind of offenses on the offender's Service Records profile.
Report Mechanism: We recognize that we can't be everywhere at once, so players will now have the ability to report others for inappropriate conduct. Our team will review these reports thoroughly.
Additionally, community server administrators will continue to have the authority to manage their own ban lists as they see fit.
Crowdfunding Rewards
We recognize that our crowdfunding backers are eagerly awaiting their rewards. While all rewards won’t be fully available until we exit early access, we are taking steps now to begin fulfilling our commitments.
If you are one of our 14.414 crowdfunding backers (first off; thank you for supporting the development of the game at such an early point in time!), using the game key you received during the crowdfunding campaign you will soon be able to redeem rewards and link your pledge tier to your Service Records account.
Crowdfunder Cockades
During the secession crisis and into the early months of the American Civil War, enthusiastic citizens in both the north and the south made a public display of their unwavering patriotism by fashioning cockades to adorn their jackets and caps. Cockades worn by the rank-and-file had likely become exceedingly rare by the Maryland Campaign of 1862, but we believe the cockade is the perfect icon to represent our player base’s “early volunteers,” the players of War of Rights who have been with us from the very beginning phases of development.
Additional rewards for your Service Record, which are yet to be announced, will also be provided.
Thank you for your patience and support as we work towards delivering all promised rewards.
Server Tokens
As part of the service record update will come the previously announced introduction of self-hosting and community server tools. Alongside these developments, we are also introducing a new system known as server tokens.
Here's a quick refresher: Server owners who wish to maintain standard Campfire Games content and balancing can request a token. Servers with these authorized tokens will have access to Service Records, match recording, progression systems, and will be officially listed in the server browser.
On the other hand, servers without tokens will have the flexibility to customize the game experience, including mods, balancing changes, and broader access to console variables. However, please note that matches on these servers will not be recorded under Service Records, nor will stats be progressed. They will also be marked as unofficial servers in the server browser.
Campfire Games will exercise its discretion in token distribution, and access may be revoked at any time for violations.
These changes are designed to provide both structure and freedom within our community, catering to a variety of player preferences.
Community Feedback
We are excited to announce that Service Records represent our largest community-focused update yet. To ensure it meets the needs of both individual players and our larger communities, we are inviting community chosen representatives and regiment leaders to join us for a discussion and to hear your thoughts. This will help us tailor the update to provide the best possible experience.
Details about the discussion, including the date and how to receive an invitation, will be announced on the War of Rights Discord. In the meantime, we encourage you to continue sharing your ideas and suggestions in the designated channel on our community Discord.
Furthermore, to make sure every voice is heard you are also invited to fill out our survey on the upcoming Service Records HERE. We are not ready to announce an exact release date as we want to tailor this update to the community’s preferences, but you can expect it to release later this year.
Thank you for helping us make War of Rights even better!
