Hi all,
Around 10 years ago, I released ASDAD on Steam. This is a game that I truly enjoyed developing, despite the challenges and difficulties of the process. Releasing the game here was a huge milestone for me, and over the months that followed, I had the opportunity to watch lots of people play and enjoy their time with it.
I learned a lot about the games industry in the process, and I'm extremely thankful for every single comment I received, good and bad, constructive or otherwise. The fact that people spent some of their time playing something I made is (and will forever be) something I treasure.
I'm also grateful for the people who encouraged me during the development of the game and gave me feedback during its early days. Friends, family, peers, or just acquaintances. I loved hearing their thoughts.
Of course the game would've not been possible without the very talented individuals that lent me some of their insane skills to make the game better; Eto, Louten and Tama with their art, and The Voice Acting Power Squad with their voices.
I also want to acknowledge the super cool devs that were open to collaboration and gave me their blessing to include some of their most beloved characters in my game; the amazing folks at Yacht Club Games and Ludosity, as well as my friends at Wintek.
All of their names are in the credits, but I just can't talk about what the game meant to me without talking about the people involved in the journey.
But all roads come to an end. I haven't done any game development for years, and I'm currently very far from the industry. And for the same amount of time, I've watched ASDAD slowly sink into obsolescence. As time passes, platforms change, and both the game itself and its presence on Steam are showing their age. I don't even know if the game works in the ultra high resolutions and frame rates of modern gaming rigs, or with modern controllers, or with Windows 11. Every so often, there's a new Steam feature that gets released that the game will lack, or that will be added automatically and will remain untested forever.... People have asked for achievements and trading cards, and things I was never able to provide... The list goes on.
So, instead of watching the issues pile up, and seeing new players go through an increasingly frustrating experience with a game no longer in development, I've decided to retire ASDAD from Steam.
Being on this platform was truly an honor, and it goes without saying that I'm grateful for the opportunity I had of publishing the game here. So my thanks also go to Steam and the people behind the platform.
Thanks again to every one of you. I truly hope you enjoyed playing the game, but even if you didn't, I genuinely appreciate the time you spent checking it out.
