Hey, Funguys! Funguys Swarm leaves Early Access and reaches 1.0 now!
The 1.0 update introduces the Forest Strength System, the Hellscape final arena, four characters, Twitch Integration, new skills and passives, and more.
Funguys Swarm 1.0 launches August 25th, 9:00 AM PT.
Price: $9.99 on all platforms up from the $6.99 Early Access price. A 20% launch discount will run from August 25th through September 8th.
Your save files carry over. Everything you've unlocked in Early Access comes with you into 1.0.
Cross-platform saves: Saves are platform-specific - there is no cross-platform save transfer.
Steam Deck Verified
Funguys Swarm is now officially Steam Deck Verified.
[Deck Verified. Sleep schedule unverified]
Forest Strength System
[From sapling to slapping]
Every Arena you complete now makes you permanently stronger.
The new Forest Strength System rewards you with a unique upgrade whenever you conquer an Arena. These upgrades carry over into future runs, giving you more ways to shape your builds as you progress through the game.
For example, Forest Strength 4 unlocks the ability to disable certain cards, so they no longer appear during a run. Combined with the upgrades earned from other Arenas, this gives you much more control over your build in the late game.
The Final Arena: Hellscape
[He's not staying in the Sanctuary. Neither should you.]
The Fire King has escaped the Sanctuary, and he's brought the heat with him.
Our new final Arena, Hellscape, is the climax of everything you've fought through. Survive it, face the Fire King, and find out if all that Forest Strength was enough.
No pressure.
Enemy 1: Burnt Coal
[Coal Me Maybe]
Enemy 2: Burnt Shroom
[This Shroom Is Toast]
3 New Characters
[Meet the crew, and their Ube]
Say hello to Dr. Botanika, Mr. Midnight, and Steve — three new characters who fight unlike anyone else on the roster. They don't carry their own weapon, instead, each one commands Ube, a loyal sentry that carries the weapon and does the shooting for them. You steer the character; Ube brings the firepower.
Dr. Botanika
Ube inflicts Shock on a nearby enemy every 3 seconds. Cooldown Reduction affects this. Reduce the cooldown of your Skill Cards for each Sky Card you have.
Mr. Midnight
Ube has a small magnet that picks up Pickupables. Picking up XP Beans and Loot grants a temporary stack that increases damage by +1%. This bonus increases by an additional +1% for each Night Card you have.
Steve
Steve automatically chooses cards and upgrades, preferring Water cards. Increase your Luck and Chance by +5% for each Water Card you have.
See them in action:
[They don't hold the weapon. That's what the sentry is for]
And they don't come empty-handed — these three unlock skills you won't find on anyone else. Two standouts:
Skill 1: Blue Flower
[Pew pew, bloom bloom]
Skill 2: Void Brain
[Thinking is now on cooldown]
1 New Secret Character
There's also a secret character hidden in 1.0. How do you unlock it?
Complete the game. That's the only hint you're getting.
Good luck.
Twitch Integration
[Chat has never once made a good decision. Try it anyway]
Streamers, this one's for you. With the new Twitch Integration live on Steam at launch, your chat gets to decide your fate mid-run.
[a, b, or c? Chat chooses]
Let the mob choose your upgrades, your curses, and your doom. What could possibly go wrong?
Say Hello to Starcat
[Purrs. Deals damage. No notes.]
Meet Starcat, our new pet. It's cute, it's cosmic, and it's on your side. And you can pet it, of course.
Skills 1: Gather XP
[Collecting XP at the speed of meow]
Skills 2: Dealing Damage when Touched
A Mountain of New Content
We didn't hold back for 1.0. Alongside everything above, we're adding:
9 New Skills
11 New Passives
22 New Treelings
12 New Relics
63 New Starpaths to unlock
Balancing Pass
More builds, more synergies, more reasons to run it back one more time.
New Fire Curse UI
[A cleaner look at exactly how doomed you are]
The Fire Curse screen has been redesigned for 1.0, making its effects cleaner, clearer, and easier to read at a glance.
Shroom Shop Items
We've also stocked the Shroom Shop with new items, so there's plenty of new stuff to spend your hard-earned resources on.
Achievements are here
[Carrot-ulations]
You asked, we delivered: 112 achievements to chase in 1.0, from first-arena freebies to challenge runs we're genuinely sorry about.
The achievements can be unlocked on Steam, Sony PlayStation 5, and Xbox.
Bundle Announcement
Funguys doesn't swarm alone. To celebrate 1.0, we've teamed up with three fantastic games for launch bundles on Steam:
Soulstone Survivors x Funguys Swarm
Nuclear Throne × Funguys Swarm
Noobs are Coming × Funguys Swarm
Get 10% off when you complete the bundle, even if you already own one. If your library's missing any of these, now's the perfect excuse.
To Our Funguys
Okay, one serious moment before we go.
When we started this, we had no idea it would grow into what it is today. Every piece of feedback, every bug report, every wild build you shared, every hour you spent in the arena, it all shaped this game.
Funguys Swarm reaching 1.0 and landing on five platforms isn't something we did alone. You did this with us, and we mean that. Thank you for swarming with us.
Right. That's enough feelings. Go fight the Fire King.
See You in the Arena

For the first time, Funguys is also coming to consoles. Alongside Steam and the Epic Games Store, Version 1.0 launches day one on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and the Xbox app on PC.
The release date trailer is live. Take a look at what’s waiting for you in Version 1.0. 👀
Version 1.0 is the biggest version of Funguys Swarm yet, with new ways to build your Funguys, grow stronger between runs, and battle through increasingly chaotic encounters.
Here is a taste of what’s coming:
A new final arena where you can put your strongest builds to the ultimate test
The Forest Strength system, a new form of meta-progression that lets you carry power between runs
New playable characters with their own abilities, animations, quirks, and playstyles
Twitch integration that lets chat interfere with your game live
New skills, treelings, and relics for even more powerful and ridiculous combinations
One secret character we are not ready to reveal just yet 👀
We will share the complete Version 1.0 rundown, including more details, numbers, and footage, closer to launch.
Pricing update
On July 24 at 9 a.m. PT, the Steam Early Access price will increase from US$6.99 to US$9.99. The console versions will also launch at US$9.99.
Existing owners will receive the complete Version 1.0 update at no additional cost.
Steam requires 30 days between a price increase and a discount. Making this change now allows us to offer a Steam launch discount when Version 1.0 arrives on August 25. We will announce the discount details closer to release.
Thank you for supporting Funguys Swarm throughout Early Access. We cannot wait to bring the full game to everyone on August 25.

HEY Funguys!
Welcome to the March 2026 Funguys Swarm Dev Update!
Our fifth major update, the Optimization Update, is live now!
In this announcement, we’ll showcase major CPU usage improvements in the arena, introduce in-game graphic settings, go over quality-of-life improvements, highlight several gameplay changes, and finish with balance updates.
CPU Optimization
Many players informed us that the game can slow down significantly during large swarms — especially in the late game.
In extreme situations, the game could drop to very low FPS and even freeze for several seconds.
We've spent the last few months optimizing the core swarm simulation, and the improvement is huge. Large battles should now remain much smoother and far more stable, even when the arena becomes chaotic.
Performance Comparison (on Steam Deck)
What does this mean for you?
In short:
Massive swarms should feel much smoother.
Frame drops recover much faster.
Long freezes should no longer happen.
Even in the most chaotic moments, performance now recovers within 1–2 seconds.
Graphic Settings
Sometimes you want to keep it light, we get it. You can now adjust graphics in the settings via the Quality Preset option.
[Your laptop can breathe now.]
Quality of Life Settings
Damage Number Speed: Adjustable damage number animation speed
Use In-Game Cursor toggle: Option to use the in-game cursor pointer
Enemy Outline toggle: Show / Hide character outlines
Enemy Ground Splatter toggle: Show / Hide Enemy Ground Splatter.
Banish Rework
[Therapy for bad RNG]
Banish no longer ends your level-up immediately. You can now banish multiple cards before selecting your upgrade.
Level-up will only conclude when:
You select a card, or
All available options have been banished.
Return of the Breakables
[Shrines were too polite.]
Dew, Shroom, and XP now spawn as breakable objects again instead of Shrines. Each requires 3 hits from any source to break.
Chests Drops Improvements
[Common cards have been evicted]
Chest now drops cards with minimum rarity of Rare.
What is next?
That’s all for now, folks.
The next updates are already in the works, including:
Key binding
We'll allow rebinding of keys to your preferred setting.
More arenas
We know you've been waiting for more arenas.

Hi everyone!
This patch focuses on reducing the difficulty spikes and grind in Starpath quests that many of you have felt. Weapons, characters, and skills now unlock much earlier, giving you more freedom to experiment and discover fun builds.
Runs should feel smoother and less restrictive from the start. We’ve also adjusted overall difficulty so it’s easier to reach builds that feel strong and satisfying. We hope that every run feels rewarding, without slowing you down or getting in the way of the fun.
Gameplay Changes
Starpath Quests have been readjusted.
Access to new Skills and Passives is now easier early on, allowing players to build fun runs the way they want.
Weapons and Characters are more accessible, allowing for earlier experimentation.
Several values that felt overly grindy have been tweaked to encourage trying different runs.
Fire Offer costs have been adjusted. Less punishment for taking valuable cards.
Skill Upgrade Epic and Legendary costs have been reduced from 4 and 5 to 2 and 3.
Passive Upgrade Epic and Legendary costs have been reduced from 3 and 4 to 1 and 2.

King’s Favourite initial value has been reduced from 13% to 5%.
The amount of XP dropped by Shrine XP has been increased.
Shrine spawn chance has been increased from 60% to 80%.
Skill and Passive Shrines are now guaranteed to offer a minimum of Rare rarity.
The effect of Luck on rarity has been increased, previously the value does not reflect how it feels to be lucky.
Sanctuary Pond Luck costs have been reduced from 1000 / 2000 / 3000 / 5000 / 9000 to 500 / 1000 / 2000 / 3000 / 5000.

Hey everyone!
We know the recent 0.5 update made the game harder than intended. It could feel too grindy, and player choices didn’t matter as much as they should.
We’re very sorry about this. With this release, we’ve taken steps to fix these issues.
One of the most noticeable problems was how Amount scaling worked during a run. Before 0.5, it was possible to build around increasing skill projectile Amount, but in 0.5 those builds were almost non-existent. This was caused by a design issue in how Amount cards were calculated to appear, giving them a significantly lower chance compared to other upgrade cards. This has been corrected in this release.
Damage scaling had also drifted too far from the pre-0.5 balance. With this update, we’ve brought it closer to the original experience so that player power scales correctly with enemy strength, as originally intended.
The damage scaling issue in 0.5 also made it harder to kill enemies, which caused them to pile up on screen and significantly impacted performance. While this update doesn’t completely resolve all performance issues, it should bring performance closer to what it was previously. We’re also planning a dedicated optimization patch in our future update.
Finally, regarding progression: the higher difficulty in 0.5 reduced the chances of successfully completing Starpath quests, making progression feel frustratingly slow. With this release, progression should be back to its intended pace.
Thanks for all the feedback — it’s been invaluable in helping us improve the game.
The calculations that determine the appearance chance of Amount Upgrade Cards have been redesigned. This issue caused the Amount attribute to have a significantly lower chance compared to other attributes, resulting in player power being much lower than intended.
Damage upgrade rarity values for all Skill Cards have been increased to better reflect older values.
All weapons now correctly have 5% Crit Chance and 150% Crit Damage by default.
Damage, Attack/Charge Speed, Crit Chance, and Crit Damage values for all Weapon Upgrade Cards have been increased.
Shrine spawn weights have been adjusted.
Reinforcement Fire Curse now spawns copies with 50% of the original enemy’s health. Copies now use a different colored outline to distinguish them from the original.
Frozen Pond slipperiness has been reduced, allowing more player control in the arena.
Balancing Updates
Groovba
Now has +60% increased debuff damage by default.
Each Nature Card increases this bonus by an additional +20%.
Joomba
Bonus damage per Sky Card has been increased from +5% to +10%.
Now correctly affects both weapon and skill damage.
Sexy Totem
XP pickup requirement has been increased from 10 to 25.
Wider Area
Base value reduced from 6% to 5%.
Bug Fixes
Fixed X-olotl’s Starpath progression not being saved properly.
Fixed Stinky Trail and Frozen Splash not working on X-olotl and Fuzzbug.
Correctly hid X-olotl’s clones when mounting Potatobot.
Fixed X-olotl’s clones being able to drown below ground level.
Grass Slash now correctly ignores Move Speed.
Fixed Shieldshroom being retroactively affected by Reinforcement from Fire Curse.
Fixed Infernal Escape, Burrow Down, Midnight Ghost, and Lightning Speed not pausing dash cooldowns, resulting in infinite dash usage.
Fixed chests sometimes do not drop anything even though you have upgradeable cards.

In this blog, we introduce six new characters and reveal a new system where skills and passives now have rarities. We’ll also cover new gameplay mechanics, including Shrines, Luck, and Armor.
Finally, we showcase brand-new content, such as fire curses and blessings.
New Characters
We're adding not 1, not 2, but 6 new characters this time!
Here they are:
Groovba: Debuffs deal +20% damage for each Nature card you have. Enemies killed by debuffs have a 2% chance to drop a half heart.
Joomba: After standing still for 3 seconds, gain +50% damage, plus +20% for each Sky card you have.
Fuzzbug: Start with 1 pixie that damages enemies. Pixies are affected by amount modifiers. Gain +1 projectile for every 2 Night cards you have.
X-Olotl: For every 5 Beast cards you have, spawn a copy of yourself that deals 50% of your weapon damage. Dash cooldown is reduced by 5% per Beast card. After you dash, gain +50% attack speed for 2 seconds.
NutsNBoltz: You can now find Nuts in the arena. Nuts charge your mecha by 20% and grant +50% movement speed for 5 seconds. Nut bonuses are increased for each Earth card you have.
Chimpy: Convert all HP into Armor. HP pickups no longer drop. Taking damage while armored causes an explosion, dealing 100 damage. Explosion damage increases by 20% for each Nature card you have.
Check out two of their many bonkers abilities
Fuzzbug:
[This is a bug. We will not fix it.]
Fuzzbug focuses like Night cards, she starts with 1 pixie and gets more pixie the more for every 2 night cards she has.
X-Olotl:
[Every clone makes him slightly angrier.]
X-Olotl summons clones of itself for every 5 beast cards she has, passive or active cards both count.
Skill & Passive Rarity
[How was the Savage Fist? Legen—wait for it—dary.]
Skill and Passive now have random rarity each time you level up. More gacha mechanics, more fun.
Here are the rarity levels:
Common
Rare
Epic
Legendary
Each higher rarity will give a higher stat boost. E.g., Legendary Green Heart will give more hearts than Common Green Heart.
Skills levels are also reworked a bit. Skills now maxed at level 10, mutation at level 5 and 10.
Shrines
[Stand here for 5 seconds to receive mild anxiety]
Shrines: New interactable you can find in arena. You must stay within them for a short time before they give you their rewards.
Funguys Evolutions are now also findable in Funguy Shrines instead of getting it every 5 and 10 minutes.
Armor
Armor shrines drop Armors. 1 hit = 1 armor. You lose 1 armor for 1 hit from any enemy.
Luck
The higher your luck, the higher the skill and passive rarity chance.
[I'm feeling Lucky!]
You can also find the Luck skill passive to increase it even more. Try a luck-focused build!
5 New Fire Curse and 3 New Fire Blessings
[Shroomba be like: This is fine. 🔥🙂]
That handsome ball of fire is Death Follows, the highest-level fire curse at level 30. Think your extra lives will save you? Psych! Death Follows comes back for you after you revive.
We hear you like fire curses, so we add some more. Here they are:
Fire Curses:
Infused Projectiles - curse lvl 10
Enemy ranged projectiles move faster.
Slowing Heat - curse lvl 15
Spawn slowing fields that reduce your movement speed.
Internal Catapult - curse lvl 20
Fiery meteors fall around you.
Scorching Treasures - curse lvl 25
Resources and XP Beans expire after a duration.
Death Follows - curse lvl 30
A mass of death appears and slowly moves toward you. Touching it results in instant death.
Fire Blessings:
Treasure Hunter - blessing lvl 5
An additional bonus when picking up resources.
Lucky Cards - blessing lvl 15
Chance for Rare cards to appear more often.
Forest Power - blessing lvl 15
Chance for all damage you deal to be critical hits.
We also allow you to level up the fire skill up to level 30 for those of you who like a bit more heat.
4 New Skills
We release 4 new skills with this update:
Infernal Escape - Dash skills.
Your Dash is replaced with a leap into the sky. After a delay, you land and deal damage to all enemies in the area.
Sexy Totem
Every time you pick up 10 XP Beans, summon a totem that deals constant damage for its duration.
Water Snek
Spawn a slithering Water Snek that damages and slows enemies it passes through.
Frog Support - Weapon Skills
Spawn a frog that shoots projectiles based on the ranged weapon you use.
What is next?
That’s all for now, folks.
The next updates are already in the works, including:
More arenas
We know you've been waiting for more arenas.

Changelist
New Characters
6 new characters, each with a unique ability that utilizes your card elements.
Locked characters now appear as Red Crystals in the Sanctuary.
New characters are unlockable via Starpath.
Mechanics for old characters’ unique abilities have been reworked.
Introducing Card Rarity!
Rarity now also appears on Skill and Passive Cards.
Skill Cards now max out at level 10, with mutations at levels 5 and 10.
Passive Cards still max out at level 7.
The number of Skill Slots and Passive Slots at the beginning of the game is now 3, upgradable to 5 via the Shroomshop.
You can no longer banish upgrade cards (you can only banish new cards).
Banishing a card now concludes the level-up (previously you could still select a card after banishing).
Skill Slots are no longer restricted by character level 10 and 20.
Introducing Shrines
12 new interactables that can be found in the Arena.
Some of them replace Unique Breakables.
Obtainable by standing inside a circle (similar to Encounters).
Improved Combat Readability
We received feedback from the community that projectiles and danger from enemies is hard to see/detect.
To address this we rendered dangerous VFX on top of the environment, enemies & other VFX so players can track them better visually.
Various VFX of Skills and effects have also been improved to reduce visual noise and increase readability.
Tweaked the shape of environment occlusion when the player stands behind a structure, now it should look rounded and less noisy.
Fire Curse Overhaul
Fire Curse now maxes out at level 30 with brand-new deadly curses.
2 new Fire Blessings replace the old ones.
New blessings: Lucky Cards and Forest Power.
Fire King’s Offer now occupies one of the 3 level-up choices (instead of always appearing as a 4th choice).
New Mechanics: Armor
Blocks one instance of damage, then is discarded.
You can pick up armor during your run.
New Mechanics: Luck
Increases the chance for higher-rarity cards to appear.
Can be increased from various sources across the game.
Funguy Evolution Adjustments
Funguy Evolution can now be found in the Arena inside a Funguy Shrine.
You still need empty relic slots, purchasable via the Shroomshop.
New Skills
Added 4 new Skills.
Such as Water Snek, summon a long Snek that goes through enemies and is upgradable with strange Mutations.
Or summon Sexy Totem, a muscular sculpture that radiates earthquakes (hopefully the design doesn’t distract you.)
New Passives
Added 2 new Passives, increasing your Luck and your XP Growth.
Sanctuary Pond Adjustment
Rare Chance Increase and Epic Chance Increase have been replaced by Luck.
Costs have been refunded for old save files.
Shroomshop Items
New Upgrade: Flameguard.
Increases Max HP for one random character for the next run.
Skill Slot Increase.
Passive Slot Increase.
Costs have been refunded for old save files.
Gameplay Balancing

Reduced Douse cost from 20 Dew to 10 Dew.
Skill Cards
Whale Punch
Twin Punch has been replaced by Empowered Punch
Starlight
Reduced initial damage by 30% (due to now being upgradable).
Passive Cards
Debuff Upgrade Cards are now upgradable to level 7 for all elements.
Linked Agony (Mark)
Reduced initial shared damage from 50% to 40% (due to now being upgradable).
Now has a link limit of 8 enemies, prioritizing those closest to the target.
Elemental Damage
Now affects skills of the same element with a flat percentage damage bonus (previously based on how many cards of the same element you had).

HEY Funguys!
Welcome to the December 2025 Funguys Swarm Dev Update!
Our third major update, the Starpath Update, will go live on December 17 at 6:00 PM PST.
In this blog, we'll go over Steam capsule redesign, Shroomba and Ersa redesign, the progression overhaul, 6 new dash skills, 2 new skills, 5 treelings, and 3 new relics.
Steam Capsule Redesign
The new character, “NUTCASE,” is now featured on the capsule, and the vibe is more chaotic than ever.
Shroomba and Ersa Redesign
[Shroomba, why so serious?]
We felt Shroomba and Ersa are too plain and cute for the new vibe we're aiming for, so we gave them a more fierce look.
Starpath Improvements (Progression Overhaul)
We hear you folks. Lots of you think the game is fun, but it's too short. Well, we're changing all that. We're revamping our entire achievement progressions!
We’re completely revamping the achievement progression system.
Previously, Starpath had 56 achievements. With this update, we’re adding 47 new achievements, bringing the total to 103 achievements to unlock.
The new progression gives you clearer goals to work toward, more milestones to chase, and rewards that feel more meaningful based on how far you’ve progressed.
Because this is a major change, all resources will be refunded for existing save files, so you can re-engage with the new system from a clean slate.
6 New Dash Skills
We're introducing not one, not two, but six new dash skills and two new skills! Here are some of them:
Burrow Down:
[Social distancing, but with dirt]
Your dash is replaced with a dig. On dash, you burrow underground and move forward until you emerge, dealing damage and knockback.
Midnight Ghosts:
[Ghosted]
Your dash is replaced with ghost mode. On dash, you spawn a shadow-self and become an invulnerable ghost for a duration.
Savage Fists:
[Talk to the fists]
On cooldown, you spawn 2 fists that punch forward, dealing damage and knocking back enemies.
5 New Treelings
[Marathony is my favorite]
We know you like the cute treelings, here, have some more:
Bounty: After you kill an Elite, level up some of your Skill Cards.
Clutteroni: Breakables now have a chance to explode, dealing area damage.
Smarty: During a run, Mecha now charges faster.
Protectron: You gain Stone Heart at the start of the run; each blocks 1 instance of damage before it’s destroyed.
Marathony: You gain a stack of movement speed bonus every time you reach a certain distance.
3 New Relics
We just added 3 new relics:
Commoncap: For every Common weapon upgrade card you have, you deal +5% more damage.
Dashspores: You gain +2 Dash Charges, but your dash cooldown is increased by 25%.
Hellcap: Each Fire Curse gives you a +10% damage boost, but HP Drops now expire after 6 seconds.
What is next?
That’s all for now, folks. The next updates are already in the works, including:
Improved Game Progression Part 2:
The Starpath Update is only the beginning, this is not our final form.
More content and surprises:
Expect more upgrades, balance tweaks, and maybe a few hidden treats along the way.
