I am thrilled to introduce you to Mutation Madness, an exhilarating virus-blasting game that started its journey as a project for my Master's thesis! Fueled by passion, this project delved into the fascinating intersection of video games and viral infections, leading to the creation of a thrilling gaming experience that combines scientific insights, engaging challenges, and heart-pounding gameplay.
About the game
In Mutation Madness, you dive into the heart of Cell City, where a viral outbreak threatens human life. Armed with your disinfectant gun, you must battle waves of mutant viruses and save the city from the Madvirus outbreak. Each level presents new challenges and mysteries to unravel, providing an immersive and challenging gaming experience. You can upgrade your gun, use powerful items and even buy mascots to help you in the battle!
A journey from thesis to gameplay
The Mutation Madness game has its roots in my Master's thesis and was developed as part of the research project PLAYMUTATION (DMPI/001/2022), studying digital games and viral infections. A talented colleague collaborated with me on this journey, creating captivating cinematics and designing the game's main character. But the adventure didn't stop there! I had the incredible opportunity to share our creation with students from various schools in Portugal. Their enthusiastic gameplay and valuable feedback added a layer of excitement and depth to Mutation Madness.
