I wanted to drop a real devlog update, because I keep seeing the same question (and I totally get it): “Where’s Episode 6?”

So I’m going to be fully transparent: we hit a rough patch with Steam, and it forced us to rethink our plan.

After the release of B.E.S.T 1, Steam sent us two messages that put us in a difficult situation:

First: we could no longer update B.E.S.T 1 “the usual way” like we did before, and future content would need to be handled as DLC.
Second: at one point, adult games couldn’t be in Early Access, which was basically our entire development/funding model from day one.

Not gonna lie: it caught us off guard.

And since the release didn’t bring the financial results we were hoping for, we couldn’t afford to stay stuck for months waiting for the “perfect” solution — not if we wanted to keep the project alive.

So we made a decision (even if it’s not the cleanest one on paper):

👉 “Episode 6” becomes “Episode 0” of B.E.S.T 2.

That doesn’t mean the content is gone, or that Episode 6 was cancelled. It’s still the direct continuation — the open ending of B.E.S.T 1 leading into Season 2, like a series picking up right where it left off.

I know some of you are frustrated because you expected to see “Episode 6” in B.E.S.T 1, and I completely understand that. But I’d rather be honest: under the current Steam constraints, releasing it properly as a normal B.E.S.T 1 update became way more complicated than we expected.

Since then though, we’ve made a LOT of progress.

We already updated B.E.S.T 1 (UI + save transfer), and right after that we launched the Season 2 Prologue on other platforms — to solve a real problem: letting you transfer and prepare your saves for B.E.S.T 2 without dealing with platform/version compatibility headaches, DLC confusion, etc. And for new players, it also provides a short recap + lets them create their saves before the new episodes drop.

We also updated the engine to support native 4K renders (optional, but the quality boost is huge), improved the phone features to make everything feel more dynamic, and we started new translations: German, Turkish, and Polish.

Right now, we’re finishing development of Episode 0 (which will release in Early Access on other platforms), and then we’ll jump straight into Episode 1 right after.

Now for the part that’s still unclear (and I’d rather admit it than give you a “nice story” that changes two weeks later): Steam.

As of today, we still don’t have a clear, final answer from Steam support about the best way to release B.E.S.T 2: can we do Early Access normally again, do we need to go the DLC route, do we have to release a full season at once, etc. We’re seeing signs that some things might be possible again, so we’re going to reopen discussions with Steam — but until we have a solid framework, I don’t want to announce an “official” plan that gets rewritten right away.

What I can promise is this:
we keep moving forward, we keep building the episodes, and we’ll choose the solution that is the fastest and most reasonable way to get everything to you on Steam without making you wait forever.

Content-wise, our goal is clear:
✅ for the main release, you’ll get at least Episode 0 + Episode 1 (and if we can deliver more, even better). While other platforms will only have Episode 0 at release.

Thank you again for being here. I know the situation isn’t the simplest, but we’re doing everything we can to keep the project alive — and to deliver Season 2 with a higher level of quality across the board.

But today, we want to take a moment to talk to you openly and honestly.

📊 Development Status

Episode 5 is nearly done. We're wrapping up the final scene, translations are in progress, and we're polishing the last technical adjustments.

We’re also working hard on:

The next episode,
Steam Deck performance,
Save file stability for returning players.

⚠️ The Challenges We’re Facing

Lately, our biggest challenge hasn’t been technical… but political.

A wave of censorship has started affecting many narrative games — especially those with adult content, even when it’s mild or story-driven.

We’ve received multiple warning signs: reduced visibility, geo-blocking in certain countries, even sudden bans — often with no clear explanation from the platforms.

And yet, B.E.S.T is far from being a porn game. It’s a story. A universe. Complex characters. A mix of romance, strategy, and social dynamics.

But nowadays, that alone is enough to trigger problems, especially when the rules are vague… or just plain unclear.

🧩 So What Happens Next?

We’re doing everything we can to keep B.E.S.T available in the form you know and love — without compromise.

But let’s be honest: 🎭 The future is a bit uncertain.

We’re exploring different options — but one thing is clear: we’re not giving up.

B.E.S.T wasn’t supposed to go beyond this arc. It was a one-shot, originally. But your support, the characters, the world, and everything we’ve built together made us want to go further. Deeper. Bigger.

We’ve seen the questions on the forums about a sequel or a “Season 2.”

Let’s clear a few things up:

The price of the game will not change. This was an Early Access project shaped by your feedback — and we’re staying true to that.
The future is uncertain. A month before launch, we don’t even know if we’ll be able to release the full version without interference. So making long-term plans is risky.

BUT — we’ve talked to players about what some would call a “Season 2.”

We’re not fond of that term. If the B.E.S.T is over, then the game is over. Instead, we think in terms of story arcs.

If we decide to continue the story — a new chapter, a new challenge — it would be in a new, upgraded engine, with proper 4K support, better features, and all the lessons learned from this development.

We won’t be making paid DLC for B.E.S.T. It doesn’t make sense right now, especially with the risks we’re facing.

Again: we have no idea what’s coming. So for now, we’re focused on one thing only — releasing the full version.

The rest — including a possible Episode 6 — will depend entirely on how well the release goes, and what the platform climate looks like afterward.

We’re even considering a “censored” version for general audiences, just to be safe…

Today, we’ve hit a new little milestone: 250 reviews on Steam, with 78% positive at the time of writing! We’re getting closer and closer to that coveted “Very Positive” rating at 80%, and we’re holding on tight!

🙏 If you’ve enjoyed the game and want to support us, leaving a short review means the world to us. It doesn’t cost a thing, but it makes a huge difference for visibility and encouragement.

🎮 Ongoing improvements

We’re working hard to improve various aspects of the game while continuing the main story.

For instance, those of you who got the Walkthrough Mod will now find a new icon-based interface, replacing the previous text-based one. It’s much more visual and easier to understand what each choice leads to.

We’ve also updated the stat tracking box in the early chapters to be clearer and more intuitive.

🛠 Development progress

The second part of Episode 5 is coming along well. Many renders and animations are already done, and we’re currently coding the rest.

To avoid translation delays like we had for part 1, we’ll be sending the texts ahead of time to the translators, even before all visuals are finalized. That way, we aim to release the update before the end of summer.

⏱ A personal sprint behind the scenes

Right now, we’re juggling a lot — with family commitments, the upcoming birth of our third child, and our two kids home for summer vacation, every day is a race against time! 😅

Since we don’t have a “backup team,” every single part of the game depends directly on our time and energy.

💰 A game fully powered by your support

This game has been entirely self-funded, with no public grants or external investment. It lives thanks to your early access support and your trust. ❤️

But after a year and a half of self-funding, we’ve reached the point where we can’t sustain development much longer without a full release.

So we’ve made a big decision:
The next update will mark the official release of the game and the end of Early Access.

We truly hope it lives up to your expectations — and that it helps launch the game the way it deserves!

As for us, things are speeding up!

The first part of Episode 4 is complete and will move into testing once we've ironed out the coding issues with the new challenge we’ve prepared for you!

We’ve also made plenty of UI adjustments to the in-game phone to offer you more interactions. Since it’s a foundational update, we’ve done our best to get it right so we won’t need to revisit it later, allowing us to focus on advancing the story.

You’ve already seen our new application, OnlyStan.
We’ve also added a "biography" section for the game’s characters. You saw the initial version last time—now here’s the "final" version:

Initially, we had a white background... but several players suggested a "dark mode" or a less bright color to reduce eye strain. So, we’ve tried a few options, and this is where you come in:

WHICH COLOR DO YOU PREFER? The original white? The more formal gray? The blue that matches the game’s color scheme? Or the retro-style pink? Let us know your choice in the comments!

Here’s the "final" design for the character profile page:

The little hearts update dynamically based on your relationship progress with each character. These features lay the groundwork for the characters, so please share your thoughts! We’re excited to hear from you.

Now, we’re moving on to the second part of Episode 4, which will be far less "technical" and much more visual.

Part 2 will focus on visuals, renders, animations, and the second match. While Part 1 undergoes testing to ensure all the changes to the phone and the new challenge function smoothly and don’t corrupt your saves, we’ll be advancing Part 2. Our main goal is to deliver the full episode before the next Visual Novel Festival in March.

As for our roadmap this year, here’s the plan:

Complete Episode 4 by early March at the latest.
Episode 5 by July at the latest.
Episode 6 by December at the latest (including a rework of Episode 1’s translation).

We’re really aiming to stick to these deadlines and deliver as much content as possible throughout the year to keep the adventure going.

Regarding the game, more and more of you are playing, and we thank you for that! The game’s review score is steadily climbing (77% positive) as it works its way back to its original score (83%) before Episode 3 and the quiz. 😉 Thanks to the adjustments we made and the option for players to participate or skip challenges, it seems we’ve found a good balance that satisfies more players.

If you haven’t already, please consider leaving a review on Steam to share your thoughts and, if you’re enjoying the game, to support us and help boost the score back to 80%, which would restore our "Very Positive" rating!
