Version 2.0 is a major step forward for the demo, bringing it closer to its release on Steam.
๐บ The corruption spreads
The demo now introduces corrupted wolves that give the attacks a clearer narrative reason without presenting ordinary wolves as simply evil.
๐ฒ A more varied and lively world
Rocky hills, craters, improved foliage, and richer seasonal colors bring more variety to the world.
Houses and barracks must now be built around the Temple, while other buildings can still be placed farther away.
โ๏ธ A new chapter and final boss
The scenario now continues into Chapter 4, where the Omins must prepare for their most dangerous enemy yet.
To face this new threat, the Rangers Barracks is now available.
The final boss is slow but extremely deadly at close range, making ranged soldiers essential if you don't want to turn your Omins into a pile of tiny pieces.
๐ก Clearer information and practical tips
Clickable notifications at the bottom of the screen take you straight to important events. Finding out which Omin has found trouble just got easier.
The Practical Tips panel periodically introduces useful controls and game systems.
New visibility options help you see through vegetation and adjust the display of Omin names and damage numbers.
The first objective is now to build a Dormitory, giving the Omins wounded in the opening attack somewhere to recover.

๐ง Smarter Omins, better attack pacing
Enemy attack pacing has been reworked, with four difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Extreme.
Builders can now be assigned automatically, and buildings take less time to construct.
The Family Desire panel makes it clearer what influences the Ominsโ desire to start a family.
Omins make better decisions when attacking or fleeing.
Village life should now run a little more smoothly. Until the wolves arrive.

๐ช Not quite the Steam demo
Despite how much v2.0 adds, I've decided that this will not yet be the first version of the demo released on Steam.
The current plan is for that first Steam release to be v3.0, which will introduce the following distinctive features:
Umak, the demigod who walks among and guides the Omins;
Other factions that can join your people;
Divine powers, and more.
These additions will bring the demo much closer to the identity and structure planned for the full game and will make The Omins feel more distinctive compared to similar games. That is the version I want to use to introduce The Omins to Steam players.
โจ A glimpse of what comes next
In the meantime, I have updated the descriptions, screenshots, and capsule artwork on the Steam page to better represent the direction of the full game.
A special thank you to artist Giulia Boscolo, who created the new capsule artwork for The Omins!
If you would like an early glimpse of the characters, worlds, and ideas planned for the final game, take a look at the newly updated Steam page.
