Parties
In the game, there are four types of parties, each with a unique political philosophy. Each party has a preference for a certain type of company, giving it an advantage over the others. The types of parties present are:
- Right: it is for the abatement of taxes and public spending. It therefore favours companies that do not have the possibility to win contracts and companies that operate in those sectors affected by specific taxes (car tax for the automotive).
- Left: Supports increased public spending and taxes to fuel welfare policies. It mainly favours companies dependent on public procurement (defence, infrastructure,...)
- Center: its policies are placed halfway between those of the right and the left, public expenditure and taxes at medium levels.
- Technical or military: this type of party comes to power only in exceptional cases such as coups d'etat or financial default. Given the emergency situation these parties are facing, they will disadvantage all kinds of companies. They will raise taxes and minimise public procurement.
Taxes, Laws and Corruption
Each nation has taxes and laws that affect the profitability of companies operating in the country.
Taxes:
- Corporate tax: applies to all sectors
- Car tax: applies to the automotive sector
- Internet tax: applies to the Media and Internet service sectors
- Carbon tax: applies to the Oil & Drilling and Airlines sectors
Laws:
- Martial law: if active, elections are no longer called
Corruption: Each Hedge Fund will have the opportunity to bribe the government to change the value of a tax or law. The amount of the bribe will depend on the strength of the pro-change party in parliament and the importance of the law. Obviously, if the judicial authorities discover the corruptive scheme, the penalties will be heavy.
Elections: Popularity and Funding
The popularity of the party is crucial to winning the election. Political decisions, laws and taxes will affect public perception.However, fundraising is essential to conducting effective election campaigns. Some parties can obtain funding more easily based on links with certain Hedge Funds. You too, as the owner of your investment fund, can interfere in national policy to benefit the companies in your portfolio.
Revolutions and Coups of State
Dissatisfied popularity: In the most politically and economically unstable countries, there may be a risk of riots or coups. Factions led by dissatisfied parties may try to overthrow the current government. If this were to happen in Hedge Fund Tycoon, the winning party would gain complete control of the parliament.
Procurement
There are sectors that can participate in tenders launched by different nations. The contract is a temporary contract by which a nation pays a company to provide its services. Each contract will then have a deadline, a reference sector and an annual value that will be transferred to the winning company. All companies in the procurement sector may participate in the tender. The factors taken into account during the evaluation to award the contract are:
- Local business
- Company has a branch in the country
- Quality
- Government opinion on the Hedge Fund controller
- Ability CLO
- Not likely to Bankrupt
- Quantity of Contracts already won (The more they have the less likely to get more)
