Thanks so much for playing my little game, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.
I am sorry for having been silent for so long, but with a life as a software developer during daytime, it can sometimes take some strength to get going.
Penguin with a Pumpgun is not dead, but there are some changes to what I have been informing and I want to elaborate on those.
The updated Penguin with a Pumpgun, that I have been working on is currently postponed a bit.
The same game, won't appear in this game's repository (Penguin with a Pumpgun/pwp2023), since I realized that I risk ending up killing the old game if I replace it here. I am hugely for game preservation and if I put it visibly away I am afraid it will die. For that reason the next release of Penguin with a Pumpgun will be a separate release and it's current state is probably not the final state.
Not releasing it for free is a change, but I will do what I can to make up for it some way.
This means that the Steam version of Penguin with a Pumpgun is in it's finished state. Patches can come (I'll take all the feedback I can get), but the game won't change enormously from here.
What WILL happen to the current game on Steam:
Engine update from a very penguin-with-a-pumpgun-2023-tied engine to PEngine 2025, which I am working heavily on at the moment.
PEngine2025: will bring optimizations, so even though it's not a terribly hard game to run it should run better on lower hardware than estimated as minimum already.
PEngine2025: Improved input management with support for all major gaming platform controllers (PS3, PS4, PS5, XBox360, XBoxOne, Nintendo Joycon-pairs, Switch Pro controller and SteamDeck).
PEngine2025: Big change in asset management for better memory handling.
PEngine2025: Multi-camera support... I have plenty of use of this in mind. The current prototype is to play the game in stereoscopic 2D.
PEngine2025: Lots of under-the-hood-improvements
PEngine2025: Solves some issues with multi-screen setups. These changes have been patched into 2023 though.
This update will help me in my work on the sequel (pwp2025 currently) by slowly reiterating over the engine while finishing pwp2023, that means I will have even more cool tools available to make the next game.
The current date for the PEngine update is, with a possibility for change, somewhere mid-January 2026.
I dream of releasing the MonoGame-based engine at some point because I believe it will be a great prototype tool for 2D fanatics like me.
