Particles of Reality: Remembrance (the sequel to Obsession) is (tentatively) planned for release around summer 2026 and it will (I promise!) wrap up the overarching plot around Victor and the Ethereal storylines. (Hopefully in a satisfying way, that's the plan!)
A store page on Steam will probably come sometime this summer with a demo.
But we're not done with the "Particles of Reality" universe yet!
After Remembrance releases, we'll have two new big content releases planned!
Note: All images shown below are rough, early stage, rough-draft DESIGN documents made by me. Nothing here is final or official or implemented. Artwork, functionality, features, etc, literally everything is subject to change. These are visual aids only.
#1. Obsession Updates & DLC: Yandere Monika
Development starts fall 2026 (or after Remembrance releases).
First, new content for Particles of Reality: Obsession!
This will (very probably) include:
Free updates!
- Some new CGs added to the original game for Julian, Brandon, and Quinn (either for existing content or in new side content).
- New sprites for teenage Sebastian, Alexander, and Isabella! (There's been LOTS of requests for this! It's awkward, I know, I'm sorry!)
- (Maybe?) Sprites for Antonio and Mr. Dallarosa.
- (Probably!) Some new side stories or What If scenarios.
A new DLC with new content & CGs: Yandere Monika
- Have you been craving revenge against a certain someone for all the trouble they put you through? Do you wish Obsession-Monika was more forward, brave, and outspoken about her feelings? Do you want another chance at a happy ending? Now's your chance!
- This is a "WHAT-IF" style DLC. It does NOT take place within the overarching plot of the Particles universe. This means a 'happy ending' maybe, just maybe, might be possible. :D
- Other details like content quantity/endings, price, and release estimate TBD.
#2: Particles of Reality: Your Life
Development starts after Yandere Monika is released. However, there will probably be a (very) short teaser demo much sooner for Patreon members (which I will start working on once the sprite artwork is complete).
This is a new, standalone game that focuses on Sebastian and his dearest soulmate as they search for a happily ever after.
This game focuses exclusively on Monika and Sebastian. The other LI boys you know and love will be background and side characters in this game.
In these next paragraphs, I'm being intentionally vague for reasons that if I explained could be spoilery:
- Like a "What If", this is outside of the Ethereal plotline.
- While Sebastian is still the yandere-mess we know and love, this is planned to be a more traditional visual novel... but it's also still a Particles game, too.
- Therefore, happy endings will exist. But they may or may not be of questionable taste. :D
The current design plan is as follows:
This game is best described as "Your Boyfriend", "Our Life", "You" (the book/early show seasons), and "Particles of Reality: Obsession" had... 'a relationship' and produced a monstrous baby.
You will play primarily as Monika, but there will be occasional point of view switches where you will also play as Sebastian, who will primarily speak in the "You" style in his obsessive monologue rants.
The game will present in four stages as shown below. (You will be forced to play in order at least through the first pass.)
In the first two stages (childhood & preteen), the game will play as a stat modifier visual novel, where the story is linear and dialog driven. Your choices will heavily modify Sebastian's stats.
Stats shown are early stage planning and subject to change!
When you reach the second two stages (teenage and adulthood), the game will switch to a more typical Particles style, where you will have some branching choices that will lead to different ends.
However, the choices you're presented and/or the direction of the story after your choices will be influenced heavily by Sebastian's stats.
For a few small examples:
If Sebastian has high strength and charisma, but low confidence and sanity, the risk of him being a serial killer who murders anyone you show interest in skyrockets.
If Sebastian has low strength and charisma, high confidence, but low sanity, he is likely to put Monika on a godlike pedestal and isolate her from everyone as much as possible.
Again, everything you've seen here is in very early design stages, subject to change, and development doesn't start for any of this until next year. Remembrance is the top priority until it is completed! (Alex & Brandon's main routes are done and Sebastian's route starts this weekend for Clairvoyant+ members!)
However, I am always thinking ahead. :D I can't help it... my brain is impatient.
Sprite work for the teenage triplets has been sent out to the artist and will be in the works this year. I'll share those images and more on Patreon & Discord as details develop!
