HUD
The new HUD landed two weeks ago and you gave us plenty of feedback to work with. Today we cut the HUD's impact on performance, fix a few quirks, and implement the most requested features from your posts on our Discord. Full details below.
GT3
The 4th of August update started reworking how pitch, ride height, drag and aero balance relate to each other across the GT3 class. Two more batches of that work are in this build, along with individual passes on the Ford Mustang FR500 GT3, the McLaren MP4-12C GT3, the RUF GT3 and the Mercedes SLS GT3. Cars that had their chassis or aero numbers recalculated will feel different on entry and mid corner rather than just faster or slower, so it is worth a few laps before you carry your old setups over.
Free upgrades to two of our tracks
We have updated Norisring to 2026 spec, with new road markings, 8k tarmac textures and a new paddock building. Silverstone also gets a 2026 spec update, the most notable addition being the rectangular hotel cabins near Maggotts.
Sequential shifter
The sequential stick shifter gearbox we added on the 4th behaved more strictly than the real thing. With a manual clutch you now only need the clutch to pull away, not between shifts, and you no longer have to hold the brake or lift off the throttle to select a gear.
Fixed a crash that could happen during collisions with track debris
Graphics - Fixed black reflections and shadows after changing certain graphics settings
Graphics - Fixed the afternoon sky azimuth so the sun sits in the right place
Replays - Fixed a black scene and a constantly reloading sky when loading replays older than the 4th of August
Gameplay - Fixed the Virtual Energy refuel amount differing between metric and imperial units
Controllers - The gamepad no longer moves the mouse cursor while driving
HUD - Added an input graph element showing a short history of your pedal inputs as well as ABS and TC activations
HUD - Added helper text while moving and resizing HUD elements
HUD - Instrument pod rpm arc is now keyed to the car's optimal shift point, running green to yellow to red like dashboard shift lights, with red as your cue to upshift
HUD - MFD Relative now colours each driver by the flag they are causing
HUD - Delta timer now updates at a higher frequency
HUD - MFD now shows what the fuel you request for a pitstop is worth in laps, based on measured consumption
HUD - Status strip pins a warning once you reach 80% of your incident allowance
HUD - FFB graph now plots the pre-clip force
HUD - Improved snapping to the edges of the screen, so widgets can sit partly off-screen
HUD - The flag panel now follows a strict priority when several flags are out at once ( black, yellow, white, blue, checkered ), so the checkered no longer draws over a flag that outranks it
HUD - Performance pass on GPU cost and bandwidth
HUD - The message of the day is now cleared when the session changes, so an idle driver no longer joins the grid with it still on screen
HUD - Fixed TC level change notifications that could fail to show up
HUD - Fixed the lap time counter not clearing when returning to the garage
HUD - The oil warning lamp is now driven by a more correct value
HUD - Renamed the "MFD TOGGLE" binding to "TOGGLE MFD" for consistency
HUD - Possible fix for some systems where the HUD was not rendering
Physics - GT3 - two further passes across the class on the relationship between pitch, ride height, drag and aero balance
Physics - Ford Mustang FR500 GT3 - recalculated chassis height, centre of gravity and aero inertia, reworked the ride height / rake / drag / centre of pressure balance, suspension travel and base setup
Physics - McLaren MP4-12C GT3 - recalculated chassis height, centre of gravity and aero inertia, reworked the pitch / ride height / drag / balance, BoP and base setup
Physics - RUF GT3 - reworked the pitch / ride height / drag / balance, suspension travel and centre of gravity height, more power and an updated base setup
Physics - Mercedes SLS GT3 - BoP and fine tuned base setup
Physics - Hillclimb Icons - reworked aero and overhauled the tyres
Physics - Audi R18 - updated downshift value
Physics - Sequential stick shifter with a manual clutch now only needs the clutch to pull away, not between shifts
Physics - Sequential stick shifter no longer requires holding the brake or lifting off the throttle to select a gear
Physics - BMW 134 Judd - the gearbox is now correctly paddles instead of a sequential stick
BMW 134 Judd - Visual overhaul, converted to PBR with reworked textures, cockpit textures updated and LOD D remade
BMW 134 Judd - New onboard and trackside cameras ( exhaust, front, wheel corners, rear, wing and two onboards ), and the existing cameras were tweaked
Norisring - Updated art ( 8k tarmac, new white lines, more 3D trees, updated pit building )
Silverstone - Updated to 2026 spec, including the new rectangular cabins, plus various other tweaks
Stowe - Improved AI behaviour at the start on the short layout

A quick word on this update:
This is yet another milestone passed with a long awaited HUD replacement that finally brings RaceRoom into the modern age. This is a direct benefit of our research and development on our future engine. That is right, we have been busy: behind the scenes, we at KW Studios are building a brand new backend for the RaceRoom service, a full revamp of the menus, and a brand new rendering engine for the game client. None of those are quite ready yet, but we couldn't wait to put some of the results we got into your hands. So this update brings the first big piece forward: a brand new, modern HUD built on a scratch-made UI renderer.
The new HUD
Let me start with a bit of background. The HUD overlays and the dashboard displays inside our cars all run on a piece of technology called Scaleform. It's a Flash-based system, it's been with RaceRoom since the very beginning in 2013, and it's old and obsolete. We've known for a long time that it would need to go eventually not only because of a new rendering engine on the way, but also because of the complexity to maintain it. I've been wishing for that HUD to finally change style for so long now, but we couldn't do much about it until very recently where we managed to setup Adobe Animate to work on that legacy code and started poking at it with some success: we released the LRT NXT1 and the Alpine cars that came with a 1:1 replica of their real dashboards, made in Flash. We were pleased with the result of that experiment so we figured we'd do the same for any new car coming out. And this was the plan until just a few weeks ago when we fairly easily managed to plug the new UI renderer we have been building for the future engine into our current dx9 codebase. And so just a few weeks ago, we started rebuilding the HUD, and the first iteration is now in your hands! That breakthrough also meant we reshuffled our priorities. I have to walk back on a statement I made previously that any new car will come with a brand new dashboard. The new plan now is to bring those data displays into the new tech, convert them all away from scaleform in future updates. New data displays will then be made straight up in the new tech. We already have some experimental conversion scripts that could make this process go quickly, so I'm rather optimistic. We believe that this approach gives you the most value the soonest and makes the most sense overall.
We will be listening to your feedback and requests for tweaks and new features, of course, so make sure to join our Discord and share your feedback on this new HUD!
So what's actually in it?
In short? Far more than the old HUD ever let us dream of. We have a lot of widgets and every single one of these can be moved, scaled and toggled on or off independently, so you build the layout that suits you:
A quick tour
First of all, it's customisable. You can press a binding to "Move and Resize HUD Elements" and every element turns into a labelled box you can drag anywhere on screen, resize to taste, or switch off entirely. A button to Reset the HUD elements is also available.
Various new elements are available:
MFD ( multi-function display ) carries several pages of info: a Relative page, a Laptimes page, a Vehicle page as well as the Pit page
Tyres has everything you want to know about tyre temperatures, pressures, wear, brake temperatures, and how much dirt you've picked up on each tyre.
Standings shows your lap times in qualifying, the running order in a race, and the leaderboard in a time attack.
Timing shows your position, current lap number, sector info as well as a reminder of your last lap and best laps.
Instruments is the cluster: gear, speed, revs, vehicle condition, ABS and TC activity, DRS and more.
Status Strip gathers all notifications like slowdowns, invalidated laps, etc.
Message Log gathers multiplayer chat and system messages.
Then we have elements that were already present but were re-implemented and enhanced:
Delta is the live gap to your best lap of the session.
Track Map shows everyone's position around the circuit, now with multiclass colours so you can read a mixed field at a glance.
Starting Lights is the red-light race start sequence.
Virtual Mirror just as before, for when your real mirrors are out of FoV.
Radar is the proximity radar for close-quarters racing.
Input Meter traces your steering, throttle, brake and clutch.
FFB Graph shows your force feedback output and any clipping.
More dedicated server optimizations!
Alongside the HUD and general UI renderer, we've been making huge progress on eliminating another element of frustration: that strange ceiling of around 38 players we could never reliably push past on a single dedicated server.
It seems we have managed to unlock more potential in recent optimization passes. We've changed how position updates are sent. Instead of blasting every car's position to everyone at full rate, the server now works out what is actually relevant to you. Cars within 150 meters of you update at the full rate while cars far away on the other side of the circuit drop to around 25% rate, because you can't see them anyway and your game client fills the gaps smoothly.
On a 20 car grid it cuts the position traffic the server has to send by about 43%. At 40 cars it's around 60%. We have only reached 50 players during our last impromptu test with the members of the RaceRoom Discord server but in theory, the gains at 99 cars should be about 68%.
Now we want to find our new ceiling.
We'd like to run a scheduled Nürburgring multiclass event, in two stages:
A test session. Announced in advance, everyone welcome, and the only goal is to fill every slot we can and try and have fun until something starts melting down or we see smoke coming out.
A real race. Once we know where the new safe limit sits, we run an actual multiclass race at the biggest grid we're confident holds up.
Keep an eye on the Discord and our channels for dates.
The most up to date Norschleife in simracing!
The Nordschleife has had a proper pass to match its current real-world state. This update comes for free for all players who own the Nordschleife in RaceRoom. Here is the full list of changes:
Tourist parking overhauled: updated posters, updated parking and exit gates
New buildings added, along with EV charging stations
A new exit road added before the entry
Hohenrain chicane: driving line moved closer to the barrier
Hatzenbach: higher kerbs on entry and exit
Pflanzgarten 2 hill: re-profiled
Extra grass grid at Piff-Paff, Exmühle, Eiskurve and the Small Carousel
Green carpets removed at the GP track and Hohe Acht, with the barrier brought closer there too
Breidscheid: new banners, plus the orange wall marker that was missing
Brünnchen: the kerb is now modelled in 3D at 3cm high (it was flat before)
Lots of new asphalt, with some new markings
T13: EV charging added
Plus various other tweaks to the surroundings
Monza rubbered up
The free update we're pushing to Monza is an interesting story. After the real circuit's last resurface and track work, we pushed out a free update to match it, and in the game it came out looking spotless, as the track looked in real life just after the rework. That was accurate for about a week. In reality the freshly painted kerbs rubbered in fast, so that pristine look was out of date almost immediately. So we've updated Monza again to reflect where it actually is now: worn paint, rubbered-up kerbs, and the general lived-in look of a track that's seen plenty of running.
We all hope you'll enjoy this update and we look forward to your feedback on our discord!
I know that from my side I'm really proud of the hard work pulled off by our tiny team of awesome developers!

Its aerodynamic and suspension characteristics aim to give drivers greater confidence under braking and through high-speed corners while maintaining consistent performance throughout a race.
The Vantage brings a distinctive combination of British design, turbocharged V8 power and a deep endurance-racing pedigree to the expanding RaceRoom GT3 field.
Lamborghini Temerario GT3
The Lamborghini Temerario GT3 begins a completely new chapter for Lamborghini Squadra Corse.
It is the first GT racing car to be designed, developed and produced entirely by Automobili Lamborghini. Derived from the Temerario road car, the GT3 version uses an adapted version of its aluminium chassis and 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, but without the road car’s hybrid system.
The turbochargers, intake and exhaust systems have all been redesigned for competition. The aerodynamics and cooling systems were developed specifically for GT3 racing, while the modular carbon-fibre bodywork and removable front and rear chassis sections allow teams to carry out repairs and adjustments more efficiently during a race weekend.
Equipped with KW suspension technology, the Temerario GT3 has been engineered to deliver a stable and balanced platform across the different demands of international GT racing.
Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo
The 2026 evolution of the Porsche 911 GT3 R refines one of the most successful cars in modern GT racing.
The naturally aspirated 4.2-litre flat-six engine remains at the heart of the package, but the aerodynamics and suspension have received a wide range of detailed improvements.
New louvres above the front wheel arches work together with revised front suspension kinematics to reduce pitch sensitivity under braking. This helps maintain a more consistent aerodynamic balance and provides more precise and predictable braking behavior.
Further changes include additional power steering cooling and numerous endurance-focused refinements designed to improve consistency during long and demanding races.
Together, these four cars significantly expand the variety of RaceRoom’s GT3 field. From the naturally aspirated Mustang and Porsche to the twin-turbocharged Aston Martin and Lamborghini, every new model offers its own sound, character and driving experience.
Simracing Pro Moritz Löhner takes an early look at the RaceRoom Summer Update in this video:
The four new GT3 cars also form part of the upcoming DTM 2026 Car Pack.
The pack features the latest liveries from the 2026 DTM season across all seven participating manufacturers:
• Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo • BMW M4 GT3 Evo • Ford Mustang GT3 Evo • Lamborghini Temerario GT3 • McLaren 720S GT3 Evo • Mercedes-AMG GT3 • Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo
The DTM 2026 Car Pack brings the championship’s current grid into RaceRoom, complete with the latest cars, teams and liveries from the new season.
Introducing the new RaceRoom HUD
Work in progress. Final version will differ.
The new HUD is more than a visual refresh. It is the first major component built using technology developed for the future of RaceRoom.
Until now, RaceRoom’s HUD overlays and the dashboard displays inside our cars have relied on Scaleform, a Flash-based system that has been part of the game since its original release in 2013.
Scaleform is now old and obsolete. It has become increasingly difficult to maintain, and it is not compatible with the new rendering technology currently being developed for RaceRoom.
We recently managed to configure Adobe Animate to work with the legacy system, which allowed us to create the one-to-one replica of the real dashboard found in the LRT NXT1. We were pleased with the result and initially planned to use the same process for future cars.
That plan has now changed.
As part of the development of RaceRoom’s future rendering engine, we began creating a brand-new UI renderer from scratch. Its internal codename is COSMO, and it has been designed specifically around the requirements of RaceRoom.
COSMO was originally intended only for the future rendering engine. However, we found that it could be integrated into RaceRoom’s current DirectX 9 codebase relatively easily.
That is a much bigger deal than it might sound.
It means that we do not have to wait for the new rendering engine to be completed before players can begin benefiting from this new technology.
Just a few weeks ago, we started rebuilding the RaceRoom HUD using COSMO. The first iteration is planned to arrive as part of the 4 August update.
This breakthrough has also reshuffled our development priorities. Rather than continuing to create new dashboards using the old Flash-based system, our focus will now be on completing the COSMO integration and gradually converting the existing displays inside RaceRoom’s cars.
We already have experimental conversion tools that could help accelerate this process. Once the conversion is complete, future displays can be developed directly in COSMO.
We believe this approach provides the most value to players as quickly as possible while also preparing RaceRoom for its next technological chapter.
Customize your HUD layout
The new HUD provides far more flexibility than the old system could support.
Every individual element can be moved, resized and switched on or off independently. This allows you to create a layout that suits your display, field of view and personal preferences.
Press the key assigned to “Move and Resize HUD Elements”, which is key 7 by default, and each active element will become a labelled box. You can then drag the elements around the screen, resize them or disable them completely.
A reset option is also available to restore the HUD to its default layout.
Work in progress. Final version will differ.
New HUD elements
The first iteration includes a wide selection of new widgets.
Multi-function display
Work in progress. Final version will differ.
The MFD provides several pages of detailed information:
• Relative positions • Lap times • Vehicle information • Pit settings
Tyres
The Tyres widget displays detailed information about:
• Tyre temperatures • Tyre pressures • Tyre wear • Brake temperatures • Dirt collected on each tyre
Standings
The Standings widget changes depending on the session.
It displays lap times during qualifying, the running order during races and the leaderboard during Time Attack competitions.
Timing
Timing displays your current position, lap number, sector information, last lap time and best lap time.
Instruments
The Instruments widget acts as the main vehicle cluster, displaying information including:
• Gear • Speed • Engine revolutions • Vehicle condition • ABS activity • Traction control activity • DRS status
Status Strip
The Status Strip gathers important notifications such as slowdown penalties, invalidated laps and other race-control messages.
Message Log
The Message Log collects multiplayer chat and system messages in one dedicated element.
Returning elements, rebuilt and enhanced
Several familiar HUD features have also been completely re-implemented in COSMO.
Delta
Displays the live time difference between your current lap and your best lap of the session.
Track Map
Shows the positions of every car around the circuit. Multiclass colors have now been added, making mixed-class traffic easier to understand at a glance.
Starting Lights
Displays the red-light sequence at the beginning of a race.
Virtual Mirror
Provides a clear rear view when the physical mirrors are outside your field of view.
Radar
Displays nearby cars and helps you navigate close-quarters racing.
Input Meter
Visualizes your steering, throttle, brake and clutch inputs.
FFB Graph
Displays the force feedback output and helps identify clipping.
This is only the first iteration of the new HUD. Moving to COSMO provides a much stronger foundation for future improvements, new widgets and additional customization options.
Dedicated server optimisations and larger grids
Alongside the HUD and UI renderer, we have been working to eliminate another long-standing limitation: the strange ceiling of approximately 38 players that RaceRoom dedicated servers could never reliably exceed.
Recent optimisation work appears to have unlocked considerably more potential.
Previously, the server sent every car’s position to every player at the full update rate, regardless of where those cars were located on the circuit.
The server now determines which cars are relevant to each player.
Cars within 150 metres continue to update at the full rate. Cars located further away, such as on the opposite side of the circuit, drop to approximately 25 percent of the full update rate. You cannot see those cars directly, and the game client can smoothly fill in the gaps between the less frequent updates.
The reduction in position data sent by the server is substantial:
• Approximately 43 percent less traffic with 20 cars
• Approximately 60 percent less traffic with 40 cars
• A theoretical reduction of approximately 68 percent with 99 cars
During our latest impromptu test with members of the RaceRoom Discord server, we reached a grid of 50 players.
Nürburgring Nordschleife updated for 2026
The Nürburgring Nordschleife has received an extensive update to bring it in line with the circuit’s current real-world appearance.
This will be a free update for everyone who already owns the Nordschleife in RaceRoom.
The changes include:
• The Tourist parking area has been overhauled with updated posters, parking gates and exit gates.
• New buildings and electric vehicle charging stations have been added.
• A new exit road has been added before the Tourist entry.
• The driving line through the Hohenrain chicane has been moved closer to the barrier.
• Higher entry and exit kerbs have been added at Hatzenbach.
• Additional grass grids have been added at Piff-Paff, Exmühle, Eiskurve and the Small Carousel.
• Green carpets have been removed from the Grand Prix circuit and Hohe Acht, with the barrier also moved closer at Hohe Acht.
• New banners have been added at Breidscheid, together with the previously missing orange wall marker.
• The kerb at Brünnchen is now modelled in 3D at a height of three centimetres. It was previously flat.
• Reprofiling of the Pflanzgarten 2 hill
• Numerous areas of new asphalt and new track markings have been added.
• Electric vehicle charging stations have been added at T13.
• Various additional details and surrounding areas have been updated.
The Nordschleife remains every bit as demanding as before, but its surface, surroundings and trackside details will now more closely match the circuit as it appears in 2026.
Monza gets rubbered up
Monza is also receiving another free visual update.
Following the real circuit’s resurfacing and renovation work, we updated RaceRoom’s version of Monza to recreate its newly finished appearance.
At the time, the circuit looked almost spotless. The asphalt was fresh, the paint was clean and the kerbs appeared newly finished.
That appearance was accurate for about a week.
Once racing returned, the freshly painted kerbs quickly collected rubber and dirt. The pristine version in RaceRoom therefore became outdated almost immediately.
We have updated Monza once again to represent how the circuit looks after regular use, including worn paint, rubbered-up kerbs and the more lived-in appearance of a track that has hosted plenty of running.
A first look at the future of RaceRoom
The Summer 2026 Update combines new cars and current-season motorsport content with major improvements to the technology behind RaceRoom.
The new HUD is the first visible result of the research and development going into RaceRoom’s future renderer and user interface. The dedicated server optimizations open the door to significantly larger multiplayer grids, while the Nordschleife and Monza updates keep two of our most important circuits aligned with their real-world counterparts.
We are aiming to release the update tomorrow, 4th August.
There is plenty more happening behind the scenes, and we look forward to sharing more about the future of RaceRoom soon.
