We're finally ready to deploy our latest batch of bugfixes, quality of life improvements, and general polishing! Thank you for your patience, and we hope you enjoy this update! ːHeartsHHRː
As a reminder, this update doesn't improve the visuals of our experimental DirectX 11 compatibility mode added in the previous patch. While this mode does allow more players to experience our game, we sadly cannot make it look as pretty as the DirectX 12 mode ːCryHHRː
Here's a list of changes:

Modified "No Mercy for the Spooky" and "The Closest Thing to a Harem Ending" achievements. Now they should be awarded after completing any location without performing a nice or a mean banishment (excluding tutorial locations).
Made the "Greed" achievement unlock more reliably.
Improved the ending detection. Now you should see the correct ending based on your choices in the game. In the past, one ending would show up more often than it was supposed to.
Destroying a haunted piano, broken lights, or catching certain hauntings will no longer loop their destruction sounds.
The quest to banish Maidus Notsohelpfus now correctly disappears after a nice or a mean banishment.
Reworked Fantasioom Broom's AI. Now it is better at finding its way around a room and cleans stains more reliably.
Fixed the "Barely lifted a finger" achievement.
Improved the wallpaper preview functionality. It still doesn't work 100% of the time, but it should glitch a lot less. It appears that changing the wallpaper material too quickly is what causes the preview to sometimes not display properly.
Garbage is now tracked more accurately within room boundaries, which should resolve the issue of "Clean garbage" quests not completing despite clearing everything in a room.
Fixed a graphical error with a shower in the Financier location.
Corrected some room boundaries.
Fixed subtitles timestamps in the ending videos. They should now correctly display throughout the entirety of each video instead of disappearing near the end in some scenes.
Changed the order of events for the magical painting in the Cat Lady's location. This wasn't a bug per se, but it was an inconsistency in her story, and it bothered us.
Ambient hauntings can no longer throw cabinets that are attached to the wall, as it was too messy. They can still throw paintings, though!

This patch took us a while, mostly because we were preparing to release our game on a new store that I'm not really supposed to mention here. Both versions are, of course, identical in function, so there's no need to worry about missing out!

Today, we’re bringing you a long-awaited update, we've added experimental support for DX11! 🛠️
We know many of you have been waiting for this, and we're happy to finally let you test it out. However, please note that this is an experimental version of the game, launched separately from the Steam client. It will look different and may have issues not present in the DirectX 12 version of the game. That's why we are not changing our official system requirements listed on Steam – DirectX 12 is still required, as this is the DirectX version we can fully support.
Here's how it works:
When launching Haunted House Renovator, you'll now see two launch options:

The top option launches the game with DirectX 12: this is the recommended and supported version.
The bottom option runs the game with DirectX 11: this is the experimental version and may cause bugs or issues, especially visual ones.
Known issues in DirectX 11 mode include an invisible Brush when cleaning large stains or furniture that may appear dirty even after it's cleaned (newly-purchased furniture doesn't have this issue).
A few other small changes in today's patch:

Fixed an issue causing the music to stop on the new tutorial map.
Trash bags will no longer endlessly slide on the floor.
"Step away from the fusebox" and "Turn on the flashlight" tasks in the tutorial now properly detect the player's current state.
Lanternus Halloweenus will no longer destroy lights after being banished.
Added the exit button for the Shop (not available in the tutorial).
Disabled access to the Shop while the player is operating the fusebox to prevent issues.
Fixed an issue with missing translations for the 'Skip Tutorial" button.
Re-added Wraith-tracking UI icon that disappeared after possession.

We've been reading tons of your messages, ideas, and suggestions and we can't thank you enough for being such a creative and passionate community. It really means the world to us that so many of you want to help make Haunted House Renovator the best it can be! 💙

Today, we're proud to present a completely new tutorial experience!
We have created an entirely new location designed specifically to guide you step by step through the game's core mechanics. Whether you're learning how to remove stains, banish ghosts, or redecorate haunted rooms, this tutorial will make sure you're fully prepared for the challenges ahead. For seasoned players, you can choose to skip the tutorial at any time via the pause menu.
Here's the full list of changes and fixes included in this update:
A new tutorial! Start a new game and you'll find yourself in a new, dedicated training environment. This carefully designed location introduces all the basic mechanics in a structured way, so that future hauntings won't catch you off guard! Don't worry, experienced renovators can skip the tutorial if they want to jump straight into the action.
New haunting: Maidus Notsohelpfus Our amazing Kickstarter community helped design this one through a series of votes! This ghostly maid may be more of a nuisance than a help, but she certainly brings character (and a bit of chaos) to the Painter's and Financier's locations. Keep your eyes peeled!
New haunting: Poltergeistus Victorianus Inspired by an idea from our most generous Kickstarter supporter, this poltergeist has made its home in the Red Riding Hood and Entomologist's locations. As per our backer's request, this spirit is very interested in electronic devices so watch out for your lamps! And yes, it will act like a normal clock from time to time to avoid suspicion. Expect vintage spookiness!
New furniture has been added to the shop!
Fixed a rare case that caused an infinite loading screen.
Lights in the entrance halls of most locations are now turned on by default.
The Wraith icon now disappears properly after a successful banishment.
Improved animations for the gremlin haunting.
Added some previously missing Cat Lady items to the shop.
Fixed the door placement in the Cat Lady's Apartment.
The cursor no longer loses focus after drawing a magic circle.
Added an option to reset the orientation of an item moved via Teleportation.
Wraiths reappear faster after possessing the player.
Fixed incorrect sizes for newly placed paneling.
Reworked the scale option for wallpapers to improve detail visibility.
Fixed an issue that caused keybindings to reset in some cases. Note that if you played in the last few patches, this fix may require you to reset keybindings to their default settings once in order to take effect.
The teleportation grid toggle now cycles through levels of precision for more control.
The game should no longer ask players to add more lamps after the light requirement is already fulfilled.
Fixed an issue with "missing string entry" text appearing in the summary screen
Increased the resolution of wallpapers
Dansus Bouncus Nonstopus will no longer disable the music for the entire location it's in. Instead, it will only work if the player is nearby.
Fixed broken materials for paneling.
The function to change item preview in shop has been rebound to the mouse wheel to resolve a conflict that prevented the player from rotating purchased objects.
Buzzer Filther's nice banishment method has been simplified and its bestiary entries changed accordingly.
UI icons pointing at collectibles now no longer disappear after saving and loading the game.
Partial fix for an issue that broke the preview functionality of the wallpaper settings menu. It may still occur but not as often.
Wraiths can no longer change essential collectibles into ducks.
And of course many other small fixes.

Yesterday's patch introduced some bugs that we unfortunately didn't detect during testing. Backward compatibility is always very important to us, and we apologize for the issues we have caused. This hotfix should prevent them from happening again.
Here is what's been changed in this patch:

Fixed an issue that caused collectibles to spawn before the player takes a photograph of the Wraith
Fixed an issue with the message 'MISSING STRING TABLE ENTRY' replacing proper quest names
This fix doesn't solve the issue in locations that were saved after yesterday's patch #8. We're still looking for a solution for anyone already affected by this bug.

It turns out we've one more for you before the big update lands on June 12. But seriously, this is the final patch before the major update we're preparing! 😄
Here is what's been changed in this patch:

Fixed an issue causing Shibas Ghostas to sometimes get stuck while looking for the player.
Shibas Ghostas now always has different eye colors and animation depending on its mood (teal eyes if curious, red if angry, black if sleepy).
Updated bestiary entry for Shibas Ghostas.
Dog and rat cages added to the Bait section of the Shop.
Task for removing broken furniture no longer includes doors.
Fixed an issue that sometimes caused garbage to fall behind walls.
Barely visible floor tiles near the fireplace in the starting apartment are no longer broken (so the player doesn't need to look for them).
Fixes to multiple items in the trophy room in Red Riding Hood location.
The fire spirit can no longer ignite furniture upstairs while it's in the basement.
Enabled physics for many garbage piles that had it incorrectly disabled (causing items to float in the air when they shouldn't).
Added missing light switches for the stairs in the Red Riding Hood location.
Lamps and similar objects should no longer float if the furniture below them is removed.
Fixed an issue that caused some texts to disappear after changing the game's language.
Added missing button icons in Spanish and Turkish.
Staining ghost should no longer fall through the elevator.
The gremlin shouldn't throw objects as often as it did before.
Spirits now know how to use stairs in Red Riding Hood and Entomologist locations.
Added sound effects to Buzzerr Filtherr when it flaps its wings.
Old Toolbox widget will no longer appear if you scroll through tools.
Fixed some standing lights not shining light correctly.
The search function in the shop is now more accurate.
Other small fixes
Known issue: Adopted Shibas Ghostas doesn't protect the player from the Wraith as well as it should.

A new tutorial is coming
We've been listening very closely to your feedback about the tutorial and we totally agree, it needs some renovation. 👷‍♀️ That's why we're currently working on a brand-new tutorial experience, designed from the ground up based on your suggestions.
BUT! This is a big project. Like, really big. So we want to give you a heads-up:
we may not be releasing any patches until the new tutorial is ready, as it's taking most of our development time right now.
We're currently aiming to have it ready by June 12th, so hang in there! It'll be worth the wait.

We're thrilled to see that the previous update was well received and that our changes are making your gameplay experience better! We're not slowing down, and we've got another substantial list of fixes and improvements to make Haunted House Renovator even more enjoyable for you!
Here's what's new in this patch:

Mean banishments are unified! You can now banish any stationary haunting by destroying it with a hammaxe, banish any material moving haunting by shooting a net at it from the Launcher, or banish any immaterial moving haunting by using the Incorporeal Ghost Trap or upgrading the launcher with Ghost Nets and firing them. Dev comment - This change doesn't remove old banishment options - they are still there. However, if you don't feel like reading a bestiary entry, you can now banish a haunting without even taking a picture of it. Note that this counts as a mean banishment. Banishing hauntings: a simple guide
The Vacuum Attachment upgrade now causes no garbage to generate at all.
Hiddeus Seekus can now be interacted with after the hide-and-seek game is over.
The Toolbox and Wallpaper tools are now merged into one tool! Dev comment - After the good reception of the previous merge, when we combined the Brush and the Scrubber, we decided to do the same with another set of tools. This merge also allows the player to customize wallpapers and floor/ceiling tiles by pressing RMB, depending what the player is pointing at.
Translation fixes and changes to some ghost-trapping tools.
The second key-crystal of the tutorial can now be destroyed as soon as the hauntings awaken, Dev comment - Previously, the crystal only became destructible after completing more tasks, such as banishing a haunting or purchasing an upgrade. With this change, it's easier to progress in the tutorial
Bestiary entries are now saved across all maps, except for the Ritual Information page.
Added a new visual effect when selling objects,
Photographing a dormant haunting will now always open a 'Dormant Haunting' bestiary entry, even if the player already photographed a dormant haunting before, Dev comment - This change aims to bring clarity and confirm that a picture of a dormant haunting has been taken. Previously, some players mistakenly thought that the bestiary didn't open because of a bug and didn't realize that they photographed a dormant haunting.
Existentialus Butterflyus now properly registers as a dormant haunting before the players awaken it.
Limited the amount of garbage that can be created by Mysticus Flyingus,
The magic hat in the Cat Lady's Apartment now properly banishes the magic broom.
Added a jumping button. Dev comment - While the game doesn't require jumping at all, this change was requested by multiple players so we added this option.
All trashcans can purchased from the shop are now properly saved when changing maps.
Hauntings no longer make sounds after being banished.
Sticky spirit no longer gives 8 nice or 8 nasty banishment points, only one.
Banished sticky spirit no longer reappears after loading a save file.
Fixed an issue that made certain hauntings and furniture unable to pass through doors in Cat Lady's Apartment (specifically doors adjacent to the living room) or in Entomologist's Mansion (specifically doors adjacent to the butterfly room).
Fixed an issue that caused certain purchased lights (mainly wall lamps) to be saved incorrectly, Light sources are now correctly saved.
The player can no longer fall down the Occult Room on the Financier's location.
Existentialus Butterflyus now no longer leaves its room if it's dormant.
Default interaction button changed to 'E' (for new players only).
Default object rotation buttons changed to R / T (for new players only).
Default reset rotation button changed to Q (for new players only).
Using LMB while the player has no tool selected now allows for a basic interaction.
The gremlin shouldn't get stuck in walls anymore.
When possessed, the player might now create plastic ducks.
Other small fixes.

After a short break, we're back with exciting updates for Haunted House Renovator! 💥👻
This time it's not just the bug fixes. We're doing our best to make the game more approachable for everyone and this is our first line of changes that aim to achieve just that! Please let us know what you think of these changes either on the Steam forums or on our official Discord server!
Here's what's been fixed or added:

Wallpaper widget redesigned for better clarity! Now all the options are easily accessible, without being tucked away behind buttons!
Fixed an issue caused by swapping between wall panels and wall tiles.
Ambient hauntings (like light switches turning off) now stop after banishing the Wraith — previously, they only stopped if you banished all hauntings.
Brush and Scrubber merged into one tool. Dev note: We've combined these tools to make the game more approachable. Now the game automatically detects whether you're cleaning a flat surface or furniture. Let us know what you think, as we're considering a similar merge for the Toolbox and Wallpaper tool!
Fixed an issue with the cat transporter.
You no longer need to complete the note minigame in order to finish adopting a new pet. Dev comment: The minigame caused some confusion and didn't add enough fun, so we decided to remove it entirely.
Removed broken wall segments. Dev comment: These rare damaged walls caused more issues than they were worth, so we’ve eliminated them.
The gremlin no longer shuts doors behind it when running away from a player.
Potential fix to the second key-crystal in the tutorial that didn't spawn for some players
Sticky ghost (from the starting location's kitchen) can now be properly photographed and creates its own bestiary entry.
Fixed an issue with the 'Like in old movies' and 'Phantom Detective' achievements sometimes not unlocking.
Improved resolutions on some small objects.
Added Cat Transporter to the Bait category in the Shop.
Upgrade and crystal-braking tasks in the tutorial are now correctly listed as obligatory.
Other small fixes.

The ghost cat now only needs to eat twice to satisfy its hunger and start looking for a new owner.
The ghost trap (for incorporeal spirits) is now unlocked from the start and doesn't require an upgrade. The upgrade now reduces its cost.
Food purchased from the shop no longer disappears after loading the game.
Ambient hauntings no longer turn off the lights as frequently as before.
Fixed an issue causing Buzzer Filther to not be photographed by the camera correctly.
The song volume of the ending credits is now controlled by audio settings.
Other small fixes.

Here we come with a pretty extensive list of fixes that many of you have been waiting for. We hope these improvements will make the game much more enjoyable! 🔧
Here’s what has been fixed:

Added cat food and cat toys to the shop (though it's still too picky about food - we will work on that with it in a future patch).
Optimized loading.
Fixed the Pride achievement.
Added missing Kickstarter backers to the ending credits.
The bat-related quest now only appears when the player is in the same room as the bat.
Fixed an issue where the staining ghost became active too early.
Added butterfly sounds
Destroyed objects with dirt are no longer counted towards "clean furniture" quests.
Destroyed objects with dirt can no longer be cleaned and do not show the "clean object" hint.
Fixed an issue with floor tiles in the Main Bathroom of the Painter's location.
Added information about changing ammo type when the player has the Launcher equipped (yes, you can fire water grenades, traps, and balls without using the shop!).
Added a missing FAQ entry about magical paintings.
Fixed an issue that created quests to banish the player's own pet.
Fixed issues with fireplace and fuse pickup sounds.
Pets should no longer duplicate after loading the game.
Fixed an issue with the flying Shiba ghost.
Fixed an issue with incorrectly displayed stains.
Teleportation no longer affects doors.
Removed duplicate items, mostly garbage.

We are back with another round of fixes! Here's what has been updated:

Taking a picture of a new Wraith will now automatically open its bestiary entry, even if you've previously photographed a different Wraith.
Once all 5 Wraith-related items have been photographed, the relevant ritual information will now appear automatically.
Wraith ritual entry will not spoil the correct solution if the player banished a different Wraith before moving on to the next.
Lanternus Halloweenus now actually shines light around it when it assists the player as a pet/companion.
Blank Canvas, Crystal Ball, and Book Stand are now correctly categorized under the Bait section in the Shop.

Fixed an issue with keybindings not saving correctly.
Tutorial wallpaper tasks no longer require 100% completion (as originally intended).
Character dialogues added to the audio (UI) settings
Fixed an issue with Gremlin not being able to find treasure.
Fixed a bug that caused the game to register a "nice" banishment of the Lantern Ghost as both "nice" and "mean," which affected achievement tracking.

Here’s what’s been addressed in today’s patch 1.3.192:

The Shop tool now unlocks after destroying the first key-crystal.
Banishing the tutorial staining ghost in a nice way now correctly completes the quest (previously, the quest was only completed if the spirit was caught in a trap).
Updated light source limit values, which should now display the correct limit after entering a new map for the first time.
Damaged and broken object scanner upgrade - now detects damaged and destroyed lamps.
Fixed the loading screen animation.
Added community items (pending approval from Steam).
Other small fixes.
We're working on improving the player onboarding experience (tutorial) and we would love to hear your suggestions. For now, we're leaning toward adjusting the tutorial to resemble an upgraded version of the demo's tutorial. However, this is a major change and will require at least a few days of work.
Due to the number of bug reports and the importance of improving the tutorial, these issues have become our top priority. This means that our previously announced roadmap might change, as we're currently focusing all our efforts on fixes to ensure the game runs smoothly for everyone.
We'd also like to let you know that there will be no patches over the weekend, but regular hotfixes will resume next week.

Since yesterday, we've been hard at work fixing these issues. Some have already been resolved, and we're working as fast as possible to address the remaining ones.

The release of Haunted House Renovator is just a few days away! 🎉
Before you step through the doors of the first haunted apartment, we want to give you a sneak peek at our plans for the game’s future. Here's the roadmap for the next few months:

While we’ve worked hard to make sure the game is in its best shape for launch, we know that there may be a few things we missed. For the first two weeks after release, we’ll be focusing on fixing any bugs reported by players. 🐛
In the following two weeks (roughly until mid-May), we’ll be working on improving the overall quality of the game. We’ll be addressing things like improving balance, quality of life improvements, and overall gameplay experience. 🔧
Step three will be delivering on the promise we made to our Kickstarter backers - introducing new types of hauntings and a helpful servant who will assist you in completing your tasks. 👻
For June, we’re planning the first major content update, which will feature an entirely new location! We can already reveal that it’s going to be the Circus Director’s House. This update will be completely free for all players! 🎪
After the first update, we’ll carefully review your feedback and decide what comes next. We have dozens of ideas for new locations, hauntings, and more story to tell. Stay tuned for updates! 📅✨
