Hi everyone!
By order of his majesty, King Cerulean, applications for the Kitaria Fables 2 closed beta are now open until 4th September 2026! On top of that we’ve also got a brand-new Story Trailer to share so you can learn more about the mission that lies ahead!
❓Closed beta Q&A
📝 Sounds interesting! What will the playtest involve? We’re looking for English-speaking testers to provide valuable feedback to help us polish and refine the Kitaria Fables 2 experience ahead of launch in Spring 2027. We’d like testers to play as much of the beta version as they can and complete a short feedback form describing their experience.
⌛ How long will the closed beta run for? The test will run from 7th - 21st September 2026. During this period, testers will have unlimited access to a special beta version on Steam. After the test has been concluded, access will be revoked.
📦 What content is included in the beta version? The beta contains roughly 60% of the final release version and will take around 10 hours to complete.
🌎 Which languages are included in the beta version? The beta only supports English. The full release however will be fully localised into 10+ languages.
💬 If I join the playtest can I post and share content online? As this is a closed beta, please do not share any content online. This includes:
Steam forum posts
Social media posts
Video and livestreaming
During the test period, we will have a closed beta Discord available, which players can freely use to talk to the development team as well as other testers.
Picking up her first assignment, newly graduated Royal Army Pathfinder Alice Skylar makes the long journey from The Capital to the remote Arkadera Peninsula and the peaceful haven of Whitewall Town. Catching sight of land after weeks at sea, Alice reminds herself of her mission, to work together with plucky local guide Dusty Tuftkin in assisting the townsfolk with rebuilding their long abandoned defences and charting the wilderness that lies beyond their walls.
If you have any questions about the playtest (or anything else related to Kitaria Fables 2!) please reply to this post and we'll be more than happy to help!

Hey everybody!
We've got some really big news to share with you today as we can finally reveal... Kitaria Fables 2!
This next entry in the series follows on from the events of Kitaria Fables and introduces two new heroes, Alice Skylar and Dusty Tuftkin, as they join up with the Royal Academy Expedition Team on a mission to a never-before-seen region of Kitaria, the remote Arkadera Peninsula.
Check out the announcement trailer as revealed during today's Galaxies Spring Showcase:
Since the release of Kitaria Fables back in 2021, we received a huge amount of feedback from you, our wonderful community, and this feedback has been invaluable in helping us to shape Kitaria Fables 2. With this in mind, we thought it would be helpful to share with you the main areas that we've been focusing on:
1. Multiple playable characters with their own unique identities: In Kitaria Fables 2 you'll be playing as not one, but two different heroes! Alice and Dusty are fully realised characters, with their own unique personalities, playstyles to discover and abilities to master. The dynamics between the two heroes are really fun and interesting, and you'll be able to freely switch between both characters throughout your adventure!
2. Flexible co-op modes designed from the ground up: Creating a solid two player co-op experience was essential, and with the introduction of Alice and Dusty, both players will now have equally important role to play. Player 2 can also drop in and drop out at any point in the game which means that Player 1 can continue to progress their adventure without needing a different save. However, the biggest change this time around is the introduction of local and online co-op modes which will allow even more people to connect and enjoy Kitaria together.
3. A bigger open world: Kitaria Fables 2 takes place in the Arkadera Peninsula, a remote region on the Western continent. Compared to Canoidera, this part of Kitaria is designed to feel much more expansive and wild, being made up of many large open areas. Because of this you'll notice that the number of loading screens are significantly reduced! To make it easier to navigate these larger environments we've moved to a third person camera which allows you to freely rotate and tilt to get the most comfortable view.
4. More ways to progress: We've made the conscious decision to move away from the equipment-based progression system in Kitaria Fables to a more traditional experience-based system. Of course equipment and crafting still play an important role, but you'll now be able to develop Alice and Dusty more frequently thanks to experience points gained from completing quests, defeating enemies and bosses, and even gathering materials! This means that every action you perform will contribute towards progression! To complement this new system we're adding lots of new side content in the form of optional quests, timed events, challenging monster hunts, and hidden secrets!
5. The best of both worlds: Of course we've been careful to keep the essential ingredients that made the first Kitaria Fables so enjoyable. Item crafting has been expanded further so that now you can now craft potions, cook your own dishes, as well as improve the quality of your existing weapon and armour sets. Farming is back and bigger than ever with even more exotic crops to grow, tasty recipes to learn, and even a farmstead to restore from scratch! We've also added a new quick select wheel for weapons and farming equipment to make it even easier to tend your crops. Eagle-eyed players might have noticed a few familiar faces in our announcement trailer. Kiki will be on hand to guide your agricultural efforts, but more importantly Hazel and Albinus will return with both characters once again playing a central role in the story. We're excited to introduce a whole cast of new characters as well, from the well-meaning but hopelessly disorganised Administrator Fawn, to skilled young blacksmith Maya, and chaotic baker extraordinaire, Louis.
We hope you'll appreciate the changes that we've made in response to your suggestions, and we'll also be running playtests for Kitaria Fables 2 in the coming months, so there's plenty of time to be more involved! More details on this soon...
For now we're excited to share a sneak peak of what's in store, read on to find out more...
⛵The story so far...
Across the great expanse of the Endless Ocean lies the Arkadera Peninsula, a distant region that once marked the western edge of the Empire. As the years passed and the Empire’s presence began to fade, the outposts that once protected Arkadera’s citizens were gradually reclaimed by nature, leaving behind a small community to take refuge in the walled haven of Whitewall Town.
Eager to prove their skills in the field, ambitious Royal Army ‘Pathfinder’ Alice Skylar and plucky local guide Dusty Tuftkin join up with the Royal Academy Expedition Team on its mission to reopen Whitewall Town’s fabled errand house, explore the wide peninsula, and restore the long-forgotten outposts.
But as the expedition journeys farther into the north, rumours of a mysterious figure deep within the wilderness slowly begin to surface…
🐰⚔️ Introducing the new heroes!
Alice Skylar - An ambitious, young Royal Army Pathfinder, Alice has been sent to the Arkadera Peninsula to support the Royal Academy’s Expedition Team as they survey the wilds and help reconnect Whitewall Town with the rest of the Empire. As a child, she studied at the Academy, where Whitewall’s apothecary, Periwinkle, nurtured her love of herbalism and potioncraft. Thanks to her education Alice earned a place in the Royal Army’s new pathfinder program, where she blossomed into a skilled fighter, eventually graduating at the top of her class. Bright and conscientious, Alice understands how important her first real-world assignment is, and she’s determined to give it her all!
Dusty Tuftkin - An energetic youth from Arkadera’s Whitewall Town, Dusty is currently training as an apprentice baker under the watchful eye of his uncle Louis. Inspired by stories of his mother, a legendary warrior on a campaign in a distant land, Dusty dreams of a more adventurous life. He’s even gone so far as to appoint himself as the town’s ‘unofficial’ protector, and regularly explores the wilderness outside its walls, much to the dismay of his aunt Wisteria. Upon learning of Alice’s imminent arrival and the Expedition Team’s mission, Dusty sees his chance and volunteers to be their local guide.
✨ Features ✨
🌲 Into the wilds - Explore the uncharted Arkadera wilderness and repair the outposts scattered across its deep forests, boggy marshes, rugged highlands and snow-capped mountains.
🐰 New heroes rise - Play as Royal Army ‘Pathfinder’ Alice Skylar, and enthusiastic local guide Dusty Tuftkin, each with their own playstyle to enjoy, skill tree to develop, and story to share.
📜 Official business - Assist the Royal Academy Expedition Team while getting to know your neighbours. Complete fun side quests and seek out remote settlements to earn rare rewards.
🪄 Spells and swords - Collect and spend skill points to unlock powerful special attacks and elemental spells. Unleash Alice’s and Dusty’s full potential with devastating ultimate abilities!
⚒️ Getting crafty - Gather valuable materials in the wilds, and visit Whitewall Town’s skilled artisans to craft and upgrade new equipment, blend potions, or rustle up delicious treats.
🥕 The simple life - Help Aunt Kiki restore her dishevelled farmstead to its former glory. Search for rare plant seeds and cultivate nutritious crops before expanding your facilities to turn a profit.
🤝 Play together - Recruit a friend in local or online co-op, and play through the entire story with both heroes at the same time. Work together with your partner to overcome the toughest challenges!
Over the coming months we'll be posting frequent development updates over on the Kitaria Fables 2 Steam page so make sure to wishlist and follow to stay up to date!

Attention, Residents of Paw Village! 🐾
A few months back we launched a playtest for a new update that introduces lots more great quality of life features and balance changes to Kitaria Fables. A big thank you to the testers who participated and provided feedback, it really helped a lot!
Today we’re excited to be releasing the 1.0.3 Quality of Life update for everyone to enjoy! This patch should streamline gameplay and remove lots of the pain points that were reported by the community. We also decided to revisit the script and make some changes to the character dialogue throughout so that the story flows a bit better and have updated the localisation for all languages 😽
Here’s a full list of what has changed!
Quality of life improvements
🗺️Improvements to the overworld map: Visual improvements to the overworld map now make exploration more enjoyable and intuitive.
It is much easier to recognize which locations are linked via pathways.
Each location has a treasure chest counter to let you know how many unopened wooden, copper, silver, and gold chests remain.
Quest availability markers now appear in their associated locations so you'll never get stuck with where you need to go next!
⚙️Reducing the grind: Changes to material drop rates and the in-game economy will speed up progression.
We have upped the % drop rate of materials for a significant proportion of enemies which means that you'll spend less time grinding for the materials you need to craft new equipment and items.
We've increased the amount of Paw Pennies that you are awarded for completing main quests, and have increased the sell price for all crafted materials deposited in the sell box by 40%.
✈️Fast travel points: Fast travel improvements will make exploring Canoidera better than ever!
Every fast travel point that you discover now supports two-way travel. This will make it much easier to jump between discovered areas and drastically reduce backtracking.
The entire fast travel ‘network’ has been reworked to focus on key towns and areas which will feel much more logical.
🛏️Resting and time of day: Expanded options for resting will reduce down time.
As there are a number of in-game mechanics that make use of the time of day feature, we've expanded the options for resting so that you can now pick to skip forward to either 7 am, 12 noon, and 6 pm when you rest at Thunderbunn Farm.
Balance changes
⚖️Difficulty modes: More modes for different playstyles!
Originally we had a single fixed difficulty which has now been replaced with four different modes which can be changed at any time via the pause menu.
Each mode scales enemy attack and defense values to accommodate different player skill levels.
🏹Changes to the bow weapon: Justice for bow-wielders.
Bows were a little bit underpowered, so we have buffed their damage stat to be more aligned with sword weapons. This means that magic damage calculation is much fairer for bow users who were previously penalised due to the difference in attack values.
💫Enemy status effects: Less time waiting around to recover.
We have debuffed the stun, freeze, and poison effects so that you recover faster.
Story and localisation
🗣️Narrative changes: We’ve updated a significant amount of character dialogue to improve the flow of the narrative, and make certain story points clearer.
📚Localisation updates: All in-game languages have been updated to reflect the changes that we have made to the English script.
Miscellaneous
🫨Controller vibration support: Your attacks and spells will feel much more powerful, and you'll notice the rumbling footsteps of bigger monsters and bosses.
🎛️On boot options: You can now select your language and brightness preferences.
Phew! That’s a lot of changes! We really hope you enjoy the update, and should you have any issues or additional feedback, please do leave your comments on this post.

Hello, Residents of Paw Village! 🐾
Gosh has it been a while… When we launched Kitaria Fables back in 2021 we honestly had no idea how big this community would eventually become! As of today over 400,000 players have joined Nyanza and Macaron on their adventures across Canoidera which is a staggering number! We're truly humbled by your support and enthusiasm for the world we created 🥹
So… you might be wondering what we've been doing for the last few years. Well, while we're not quite ready to reveal what we've been working on JUST YET (more news on this shortly…) we are excited to be launching a surprise new update for Kitaria Fables in April which adds a tonne of quality of life and balance changes to make your adventures in Kitaria better than ever before!
Before we release the update to everyone across all platforms, we'll be running a public playtest of the new content here on Steam, starting today and running until Monday, March 31st. Read on to find out precisely what's included and how you can help us out by joining the testing team 🥳
Quality of life improvements
We spent a lot of time going through all of your feedback since launch and we identified a number of key areas which we have addressed as follows:
Improvements to the overworld map: We've added a bunch of visual improvements to the overworld map to make exploration more enjoyable and intuitive. It is now much easier to recognize which locations are linked via pathways. Each location also has a treasure chest counter to let you know how many unopened wooden, copper, silver, and gold chests remain. To compliment this we've also increased the amount of Paw Pennies that you are awarded for completing main quests, and have increased the sell price for all crafted materials deposited in the sell box by 40%, so you’ll get rich quicker!
Fast travel points: Every fast travel point that you discover now supports two-way travel. This will make it much easier to jump between discovered areas and drastically reduce backtracking. On top of this, the entire fast travel ‘network’ has been reworked to focus on key towns and areas which will feel much more logical.
Resting and time of day: As there are a number of in-game mechanics that make use of the time of day feature, we've expanded the options for resting so that you can now pick to skip forward to either 7 am, 12 noon, and 6 pm when you rest at Thunderbunn Farm.

Enemy status effects: We have debuffed the stun, freeze, and poison effects so that you recover faster and therefore spend less time waiting around.
Miscellaneous
Controller vibration support: Your attacks and spells will feel much more powerful, and you'll notice the rumbling footsteps of bigger monsters and bosses.
On boot options: You can now select your language and brightness preferences.
Alongside the above changes are various other minor bug fixes including an issue in co-op mode where one player could get locked out of the battle area 🙀

Due to several reworks on the controller input system, this update will reset your previous controller mapping settings to default. This will also resolve an issue that players cannot open the menu or have missing inputs in their mappings.
We have purchased and tested the majority of reported joysticks in coop mode. Oddly enough, controller support works perfectly on a non-steam version of Kitaria Fables, and only the Steam version caused issues with some Bluetooth gamepads.
Steam creates a virtual gamepad for all connected gamepads based on their configuration, so this is the approach we took to solve the issue: 1. When you connect your Bluetooth gamepad, make sure to wait until it is displayed as a gamepad instead of a keyboard or any other device, then connect. (T3 Terios Bluetooth gamepad, for example) 2. Go to Steam -> Settings -> Controller -> General Controller Settings -> Check the Guide Button Focuses Steam and Generic Gamepad Configuration Support and uncheck the rest. 3. It should be detected as a generic gamepad on the detected controller at controller settings. Click it, then click Define Layout. 4. Wait until the Steam Overlay message "Gamepad Loaded" shows up, then the Bluetooth Gamepad should work. 5. Try to run the game!

Thank you all for your feedback and support for Kitaria Fables, we want you to know we're listening and made the following changes, bug fixes, and updates!
Version 1.0.0.6
Fixed an issue where the character got stuck in mid-air while using skills after being stunned or frozen
Fixed an issue where the character would not stop moving on some controller configurations
Fixed an issue where the game would be detected as a false-positive virus on some antivirus software or crash on launch on some PCs. (We are still looking into this issue further)
Version 1.0.0.7
In-game time is now 66% slower
Opening a menu (inventory, shop, chest, etc) will now pause time
Implemented a better sleep time system. Now the time you wake up is determined by what time you went to sleep. If you go to sleep at dawn/morning you will wake up at dusk. Go to sleep at noon and wake up at night. Go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning
Using a sword now targets the closest enemy at some distance. You can still use Lock-On to lock on to an enemy
Increased collider accuracy. Hopefully, this will prevent you or monsters from going behind walls

Fixed controller and keyboard mapping reverting to default after relaunching the game
When using a keyboard and mouse to start the game, it automatically detects an unassigned controller and assigns it to the player without having to unplug-plug it.
Fixed a character falling into darkness. (We were not able to reproduce this issue so we have implemented a fix that teleports you back to the surface to avoid breaking the game.) Hopefully, this will also fix the issue where players have gotten stuck in places with red boundary lines when there are no monsters around.
Fixed Capri's and Basil's misplaced tail position and rotation
Fixed misleading attribute and buff effect descriptions

It seems that the farming RPG itch can never be fully scratched, as the unending wave of post-Stardew Valley games about the simple life can attest. The latest is Kitaria Fables, which brings a little more Zelda-style action and adventure to the formula - and, perhaps more importantly, it lets you play as a cat.
You can grab Kitaria Fables on Steam (or console, if that's your thing) right now. The game is currently enjoying a 20% launch discount until September 6, which brings the price down to $15.99 / £13.59 / €15.99. There's also a free demo you can check out to try before you buy, and a bigger deluxe edition with a load of cosmetic DLC.
If you've missed our previous coverage on Kitaria Fables, this is an action-RPG with a classless combat system that lets you mix and match your abilities however you like. Between combat-filled excursions, you'll build a farm, tend crops, and collect resources to help you build better equipment.
