Filcher just got its biggest update ever: MID-MISSION SAVES are now in, making the game much more approachable, while still keeping the challenge for those who want it.
To celebrate, the game is currently 50% off. 🤏💎
You can now save and load your mid-mission progress via a Save/Load menu, or via the Quicksave and Quickload keys (bound to F5 and F9 by default).
If you complete a mission without loading a saved game, you get an additional 10 point bonus. The requirements for the Ghost rank have been increased so you have to earn it by completing the mission this way - without loading a save game.
Swinging doors no longer auto-close.
A few minor text corrections and revisions.
Many minor tweaks and bug fixes.

I started working on the save system a year ago now, not sure whether I would be able to finish it. Well, I did! Let's hope it was worth it, and that many, many more people now get to enjoy the deliciously seedy world of Malmburg, the Blackburn Gang, and the Fensbrook Filcher herself, Miss Sporey.
Big thanks to everyone who provided feedback and encouragement during the beta! Thanks also to everyone who has helped spread the word about this sneaky bastard of a game. Have some delicious salt! ːsteamsaltyː (I don't have any other emojis I'm afraid).
Adieu!

The 1.1.0 update will add mid-mission saves, including quicksaving and quickloading. If you want to try it out and provide valuable feedback, I would really appreciate it!
To opt in, right-click Filcher in your Steam Library, click 'Properties...', then 'Betas', and select the beta branch.

Post your feedback here on Steam, via email (address can be found on johanhjarpe.com), or via the Filcher channel in the MythoLogic Interactive Discord server.
How does the save system work?
There is a Save/Load menu for each mission, reachable from the pause menu, the mission-select screen and the game-over screen. Each level has 15 save slots including a quicksave slot. By default, the Quicksave key is F5 and Quickload is F9.

How does this affect mission ranks and achievements?
I didn't want the hassle of adding new Steam achievements (Iron Man? Iron Woman? Iron Thief?). I feel that the current set is nice and clean.
Instead, I made it so you get a 10 point bonus for completing a mission without using the save system (saving doesn't forfeit the bonus, but loading does). The highest rank, 'Ghost', still requires the full score - now 120 points instead of the old 110.
This means that all ranks up to and including Master are achievable by save scumming, but the Ghost rank requires you to play the old way - without reloading.
☝️ Still only for absolute stealth freaks
What else is in the 1.1.0 update?
The second most common complaint has also been addressed: doors no longer auto-close. Several bugs have been fixed, and a few texts have been tweaked. Nothing major. Full patch notes will come with the full release.
When is 1.1.0 coming out for realsies?
I don't know yet. Testing, like development, is slow since I don't have a lot of free time these days. But with your help, I can squash any remaining bugs and have the update ready all the quicker!
I heard you were working on a 'Filcher Gold' edition?
I was. It was gonna be called 'Filcher: 40 Carat Edition'. It was gonna include the save system, two new missions and improved controller support. The missions had some really cool stuff in them.
But ultimately, it was too much work to finish, and the missions were too disconnected from the story and would have slowed things down. So I decided to scrap the project and release the save system and other bits and bobs as a free update instead. You're welcome!
Thanks. Is this a Q&A now?
Apparently? I wasn't planning to use this format. These things happen sometimes. You start talking to imaginary people.
Tell me about it.
Do you mean 'Tell me about it' as in 'Yeah, I know, me too', or 'Tell me about it' as in 'That's interesting, tell me more'?
I thought I was the one asking questions?
Hello?
Oh, he left. How rude.
Well, this is awkward.
In that case, I guess I'll just wish you all a very Happy New Year.
Because I don't think he's- Hello? No, I didn't think so.
Er, bye then. Bye.

Firstly, I recently released the Filcher soundtrack on YouTube and Bandcamp!
Secondly, I submitted Filcher to GOG.com way back in October but never heard back from them. However, someone added it to the community wishlist! (There is also a discussion thread.)
I guess I should point you towards it, as getting the game onto GOG could really help it reach a bigger audience. If you have an account, please consider pressing that vote button. Cheers!
Fixed a few grammatical errors...
On the briefing screen, the mission name now shrinks to fit its container (when using a custom language pack). Added two missing text items for the briefing screen: "UI.Common.Mission" and "UI.Common.Prologue". Add these to your custom language pack if you want the text above the
Fixed a misaligned staircase in mission 8.
Fixed the camera shake which occured when riding an elevator. Minor tweaks and fixes.
I had the honour of guesting the Inside At Last Thief podcast along with Stealth Docs to chat about Thief, Filcher, and more! I was pretty nervous, but think I occasionally made sense. It was hella fun, hope you enjoy it! Here is Stealth Docs' review of the game!

Fixed some bugs related to custom language packs. See for details. Tweaked the player camera to make it smoother and less stuttery. "Tough Customers": Fixed a bug where one of the assassins would turn invisible if lured into the upstairs corridor. (Don't ask.) Other minor tweaks
Ambient sound and music now keeps playing while the inventory radial menu is open. Fixed a bug causing the player to not collapse correctly on death. (Hopefully) Fixed the hitch/stutter that happened the first time a dialogue subtitle was shown.
On completing a mission, you now hear a soft wind before the "mission complete" screen shows up, as intended.
Fixed a bug causing you to slowly slide down stairs or slopes while standing still.
Player/camera movement is now smoother with less of the "stuttering" experienced by some players.
Reverted a 1.0.0b change which caused some camera jitter when attaching to or deattaching from ladders. The slight camera stutter "stutter" may return on some monitors. Bear with me while I figure out a better solution to that problem...
Added "Invert mouse Y axis" option for weirdos. Fixed a bug where auto-closing doors would clip through the player when the player was standing still. Fixed a bug where leaving any key binding empty would revert all controls to the default bindings on next startup. Fixed a misali
Fixed camera "stutter" for certain framerates / monitor refresh rates. (I adjusted the game's fixed timestep to match a 60 Hz refresh rate - keep an eye out and report physics glitches!) Typo fix and minor text tweaks.
