Right so where were we,
Linux Native Build: Sublemonal studios have left the Windows ecosystem and have migrated to Linux. It has been a challenge moving the projects development to Linux as you would expect but we are now up and running and back into the final production phases of the game. We are currently working on end (of part 1) game content. As a result of this there will be two native OS builds for Wiccatrix. Windows and now Linux. A Linux native demo will be coming soon too as will an updated demo for Windows. So was it worth all the trouble? YES. We love Linux and were not looking back but we have one workstation still running Windows 11 for the Windows build..
As mentioned above we are nearing the end of the content creation stage so after that we will then be removing the scaffolding and tidying up the worksite (replacing A.I. placeholders with bespoke human art, voices and music). This will take us a few months at least but must be done before the game is released. The game will not be released with any A.I. Generated content. The game description currently says we use A.I. . This will change as soon as A.I. free versions of the demo are updated and published. These will be updated hopefully by September 2026.
That's all I have to share for the moment. To leave you with, here's a picture of a precarious moment. We can see the finish line now. Wiccatrix is coming in November 2026.
Wiccatrix Update 16.04.2026 Hi. I usually post updates on YT but until this game is ready for release or very close to it I won't be doing any more updates on YT so yeh. I thought I better post something because it's been a while, even though I would be surprised if anyone reads
Wiccatrix Update 16.04.2026
Hi. I usually post updates on YT but until this game is ready for release or very close to it I won't be doing any more updates on YT so yeh. I thought I better post something because it's been a while, even though I would be surprised if anyone reads this. Anyway on with the update..
Generative A.I. PURGE!!. Yeh were not using it. I have been using Gen AI in the development of the game up to this point and if you play through the demo, it's there. Many of the images (especially the Grimoire) were created in Mid Journey or DallE. The voices of the characters were created with a unity addon (DeepVoice (which in turn uses Eleven Labs voices )).. Some of the in game music was generated with Udio. It was great using Generative A.I. but there is a price to pay for all that convenience. Let's call it what it is. It's not Art, it's slop. So we will be removing all the A.I. Generated content in our game and replacing them with human generated content. We don't want to live in a world full of A.I. slop and this project will not be adding to that huge pile. This is a human generated project with our voices, and our art and maybe some of Kevin Macleod's or other public domain music and sound sfx. We will also credit what sounds we use where required. Before releasing the main game I will also be updating all other media related including the Demo with an A.I. free version. Still to come..
The Scope is set. Game development is hard if you don't know what you are making. For the first few years (been going on about 7 - 8 now, I didn't know exactly what I was making, I just had a fuzzy Idea. I was hoping that the picture would eventually form if I kept on making stuff. Just making stuff and hoping it would manifest (just like democracy) is not the best game design strategy but it seems to have worked, but it took years to get here. Going from making a RPG of some type with spells and a female character, to a story driven RPG that features audio dialogue was an evolution of sorts. So a storyline was written. A heroes journey about a humble orphan goatherder living with her grandmother. To progress to the next chapter you need to complete challenges in the game. The story was a 12 year journey for the main character. The storyline was too big to release in one go. The 12 cycles each having about 5 or 6 quests, which include conversations with audio dialogue, and scene mechanics. These take a long time to make. In order to release Wiccatrix soon (Hopefully late 2026 😕) the original scope had to be reduced. Instead of releasing the game with all 12 years (from now on we call them CHAPTERS) to 6 and in 2 parts. Even that was too much content to do within any reasonable timeframe and would mean that the game wouldn't be released this year. So, now the game will be released in 3 parts with this first part WiccAtriX being Part 1 of 3. Each part will consist of 5 chapters. That means that there will be two more parts after Wiccatrix which will be released eventually. This also means, we will have to write three more chapters to increase the total to 15. So now the scope is set. We aim to release Wiccatrix (part 1) the first 5 chapters in ate 2026. It is more important that the game is finished to an acceptable standard than meeting the release date, so if it's not looking ready by November 2026, the release date will be sometime in 2027.
What's next? We are currently working on content for Chapter 5 which is the last chapter of part 1. It's coming together nicely. A few things still need to be done including,
An epic boss battle to end part 1
Replacing all the A.I. Generated Voices. That's going to be so much (😖FU@#!!) 🤪fun.
Improvements to some of the existing content's mechanics.
Improvements to maps & terrain to make the world more beautiful
Steam integration:- Creating achievements and leaderboards (for some things).
Another idea I listed here in a previous edit I removed. It's a bit ambitious so I don't want to commit to it here but it may appear in the part 1 release. if you saw it before, feel free to spill the beans in the responses.
It is now time to get back to doing the cool stuff (& the hard stuff). I will leave you with an image from Chapter 5 with zero context. I will post some more updates before the release. Check out the demo if you haven't already. Thanks for reading and cheers..
