We’ve heard you (Just as you heard Jack sighing)! We’re introducing the Cheer-Up-Date for Autopsy Simulator. This update brings changes to Jack’s voice lines, removing some of his sighing during Dead Memories Story Mode and making overall improvements to his voice lines.

Alongside changes to Jack’s voice lines, the Cheer-Up-Date brings multiple improvements to existing features and further bug fixes across both Autopsy Simulator game modes- Dead Memories Story Mode & Autopsy Only Mode.

Overall Changes

Changes to Jack's Voice Lines

Improvements to Jack Hanman’s voice lines throughout Autopsy Simulator, removing the number of sighs throughout Dead Memories Story Mode.
Increased Jack’s audio levels Chapter 5 to ensure all voice lines can be heard correctly.

Improvements to both Game Modes

Improvements to controller support, including:
- Players can now switch between Controller and Mouse & Keyboard more conveniently.
Improvements to button remapping/rebinding.
Improvements to the file save slots to improve their stability.
Improvements to UV light during external inspections.
Improvements to Rigor Mortis mini-game, with the cursor now removed during the procedure for added immersion.
Overall improvements to the in-game settings, with settings now appearing with players saved values at all times.

Improvements to HUD and button prompts when holding the camera and interacting with a cadaver.

Fixed an issue where the video camera could clip through the player when they looked down.
Fixed an issue in Chapter 1, where the heart wound icon would occasionally appear on the wrong side of the heart. Icon now appears in the correct injury area.
Fixed an issue in Chapter 1, where the photo of Alice and Charlotte would clip through the envelope.
Fixes in Chapter 2 with the elevator lighting and elevator floor buttons.
Fixes to the bucket in Chapter 2, including:
- Fixed an issue where the bucket would occasionally be missing for players if misplaced, causing a softlock when putting the lungs in the bucket.
- Fixed an occasional animation issue when placing the bucket on the sink.
- Fixed an issue where the water bucket would occasionally remain empty after filling.
Fixed an issue in Chapter 2 with fingerprint scanning. Selecting another fingerprint after getting the right match does not interrupt mini-game progress.
Fixed an issue in Chapter 2 where occasionally an objective would not trigger until players left the cutting board or body.
Fixed an issue in Chapter 3, where the tires would appear as unlashed and normal for some players.
Fixed an issue in Chapter 3, where “Alligator Mississippiensis” was present on a sticky note before comparing the scales to the atlas, causing the player to have the identification result before conducting the comparison.
Fixed an issue in Chapter 3, where the atlas could clip through the shelf when rotated.
Fixed an issue in Chapter 4, where the cursor would reset position after each action with the lopper.
Fixed an issue in Chapter 5, where one of Alice’s voice lines was missing.
Fixed an issue in Chapter 5, where Jack would be occasionally stood upright during the chapter’s opening scene.

Autopsy Only Mode

Improvements

Improvements to scoring in Autopsy Only Mode.
Improvements to organs’ physics, with all accurate organs now reacting to the player’s movements and will bounce during clipboard reporting.
Improved the sensitivity during organ cutting, increasing the dot sensitivity during maze mini-games.
Improvements to bite marks, making their sizing more consistent across the game mode.
Removal of occasional visible seams on cadavers.
Removal of traces on internal organs when inspecting with the UV light.

Bug Fixes

Autopsy Only Mode - Key Features

🧑‍⚕️ Simulation gameplay focus: Step into the shoes of a student pathologist and conduct autopsies correctly by following the accurate flow and procedures in the Autopsy Room to get the best final rating and score!

🔁 Follow the correct autopsy flow: Ensure all areas of the internal and external examinations are conducted and performed well. If some procedures during the autopsy are skipped, players will be docked points from their final score.

🤔 Final cause of death judgement: In Autopsy Only Mode, there are seven generic causes of death across all cadavers and three unique causes of death, one per cadaver in Autopsy Only Mode.

When you begin your game of AOM, there are eight possible causes of death for each body. Select the correct cause of death for the cadaver to gain points and a better final rank in Autopsy Only Mode!

We've also added fourteen decoy causes of death, to add more randomness to the game mode and increase replayability! Decoy causes of death create misdirection, whilst developing the narrative of the events unfolding as you progress through the autopsy.

💯 Get scored on your autopsy performance: In Autopsy Only Mode, you'll be scored on several criteria, including Minigame Score, Planning & Preparations, Unnecessary Examinations, Final Cause of Death, and Clean Up.

All choices during the new game mode will affect your final score, so make sure you're making decisive decisions in the Autopsy Room to ensure the best Autopsy Only Mode score. Make sure to photograph every integral area of the cadaver, only dissect organs crucial to the case files, and of course... remember to put your medical gloves on! 🧤

Alongside this, ensure you are cutting organs correctly and not failing any minigames, as this will cause you to lose score.

Dead Memories Improvements

Our free update for Autopsy Simulator also contains improvements and tweaks to our Dead Memories story mode! The changes in this patch have come from your Dead Memories launch feedback and include improvements to the scare trigger points to make scares easier to experience, improved flow throughout Dead Memories by holding players during conversations with NPCs that include important plot points, tweaks to the secret ending to make this easier to trigger, and more!

In case you missed it, we recently announced that a free content update will arrive on 12th December, which brings the full release of our simulation-focused game mode 'Autopsy Only Mode' to Autopsy Simulator.

Today, we have Autopsy Only Mode news and new screenshots to share from our upcoming update!

In Autopsy Only Mode, you'll step into the shoes of a student pathologist. Conduct autopsies to get scored based on your performance, so ensure you're following the accurate flow and procedures in the Autopsy Room to get the best score and rank! You'll be scored based on performance via the following criteria:

Minigame Score
Planning & Preparations
Unnecessary Examinations
Final Cause of Death
Clean Up

Alongside Autopsy Only Mode's arrival, this week's update will bring alterations to Dead Memories. We've been making tweaks to the story mode based on community feedback and will have further details on this later in Devlog #20!

What's new for Autopsy Only Mode?

Since our last PTE update in November, we've made several alterations and improvements to our upcoming simulation-focused game mode, ready for full launch on 12th December. These Autopsy Only Mode changes include:

Improved Injuries & Textures

We've enhanced the realism in the Autopsy Room by implementing new and improved textures to Autopsy Only Mode, since PTE Update 3! This includes alterations to cadavers' injuries and improvements to the textures of scarring, cuts and more for Autopsy Only Mode.

Third Cadaver & Unique Causes of Death

During the PTE process, the community playtested Autopsy Only Mode with two cadavers. Since then, we've made alterations to these cadavers and added the third body for AOM's full launch! Below are screenshots of these cadavers:

When you select Autopsy Only Mode, one of the three cadavers will be selected at random to dissect. Alongside this, each cadaver will spawn with randomised facial hair style and head design for cadavers in Autopsy Only Mode.

In our previous Devlog, we've discussed the ten total causes of death included in Autopsy Only Mode! The game mode contains seven generic causes of death across all cadavers and three unique causes of death, one per cadaver. This means that when you begin your Autopsy Only Mode game, you'll select from eight causes of death. Selecting the correct cause of death will score you more points in our new game mode.

New Achievements for AOM

We've seen community questions regarding Achievements for our new simulation-focused game mode. We're pleased to announce that Autopsy Only Mode brings eleven new achievements for Autopsy Simulator, all unlocked during our new game mode.

We hope you're looking forward to getting back into the Autopsy Room this week and unlocking them all!

Dead Memories Improvements

Alongside the release of our new game mode for Autopsy Simulator, our free update on December 12th will bring some tweaks and changes to Dead Memories.

The team has been working on bug fixes, based on Dead Memories community feedback. This includes fixing an issue where some horror elements would not trigger, making the second alternative ending easier to occur, and more! 🤝

We've also made some alterations to the organ cutting in Dead Memories, by implementing AOM organ cutting improvements into the story mode. Along with this addition, we've made some minor tweaks and bug fixes to improve your experience with Dead Memories! Learn more about Dead Memories story mode on our Steam page below: ⬇️

Autopsy Only Mode - Key Features

Head back into the Autopsy Room on December 12th to experience our new simulation-focused game mode!

Step into the shoes of a student pathologist and conduct autopsies correctly by following the accurate flow and procedures in the Autopsy Room to get the best final rating and score! In Autopsy Only Mode, you'll be scored based on several specific criteria, including:

The flow of the autopsy: Players need to ensure all areas of the internal and external examinations are conducted and performed well. If some procedures during the autopsy are skipped, players will be docked points from their final score.

It could be as simple as forgetting to photograph an integral area of the cavader or as big as forgetting to examine an organ. All choices during the new game mode will affect your final score, so make sure you're making decisive decisions in the Autopsy Room to ensure the best Autopsy Only Mode score! Alongside this, ensure you are cutting organs correctly and not failing any minigames, as this will cause you to lose score.

To do so, ensure you've been thorough in your examinations and review your notes in your clipboard tabs. Also, we've added fourteen decoy causes of death, to add more randomness to the game mode and increase AOM's replayability! Decoy causes of death create misdirection, whilst developing the narrative of the events unfolding as you progress through the autopsy.

Stuck during your time in the Autopsy Room?

If you're struggling during your Autopsy Only Mode playthrough, here are two elements that will quickly help you on December 12th:

New Tape recorder: Utilise Jack's knowledge through his pre-recorded audio tapes, which acts as a guide for Autopsy Only Mode and contains useful information about the flow of the Autopsy procedure.

Already a master in the Autopsy Room? There's an option to turn off the tapes in Autopsy Only Mode for those who want to experience the game mode without this feature!

New Blackboard: We've altered the blackboards in our new game mode so they are clearer for the workflow of Autopsy Only Mode. Here you will view each stage of the autopsy procedure and the ordering of tasks to complete in the Autopsy Room.

Following the blackboard's order will benefit your final scoring during our Autopsy Only Mode game mode!

PTE News

We want to thank you all for playtesting Autopsy Only Mode since the start of our PTEs for the game mode in September. Your feedback, suggestions and comments during the PTE process have helped us make Autopsy Only Mode the best game mode it can be! 🖤

Our last update was our final for the PTE branch, as we've been focusing in recent weeks on finalising the game mode, ready for its release on December 12th.

During the PTE process, we've added new features and tweaked existing mini-games for Autopsy Only Mode, which includes cadavers arriving in zip-bags, a new Loppers mini-game, new mazes for existing mini-games, alterations to the UV Lamp to integrate this tool into the process of Autopsy Only Mode, and more!

These additions and alterations will create more variation for each game of Autopsy Only Mode and better suit the scoring mechanic of our new game mode for Autopsy Simulator!

We cannot wait for you to have the full Autopsy Only Mode experience on December 12th. Soon we will showcase more of Autopsy Only Mode in a future Devlog, so keep your eyes peeled and scalpels sharp! 👀

Autopsy Only Mode - PTE Update 2 🔍

How's it going Pathologists? We've just rolled out the second update for our PTE branch build for Autopsy Only Mode. This update for the AOM PTE adds a new female cadaver, adds tutorial VOs, improves the lighting, and much more!

Patch Notes - Update 2 - Autopsy Only Mode PTE

Additions

New Female cadaver added
Added a blackboard with average organ size and length
The liver has a new maze in cutting minigame

Fixed - Microscope locks the game after finishing the blood test and quickly interacting with another item

NOTE: Our PTE is currently in English Only. We'll be looking to add more languages soon, but as this is a pre-alpha build the game mode is in English only. AOM will feature more languages in full release!

PTE Known Issues

Although we've fixed a number of bugs found in our previous playtest, the PTE build remains a pre-alpha meaning you'll likely run into issues throughout your playthrough. Our Known Issues list is below:

Softlock Issues:

Issue: Cut organ minigame soft locks the game if failed and pass successfully at the same time in Autopsy only mode. Failing near finish of the maze can make this happen.

Other Issues:

Issue: Changing the Action button in the Controls menu makes neither LMB nor the new button working in menus (Autopsy Only Mode).

Issue: Changing the language in Main Menu - Settings results in buttons being unresponsive.

Issue: Alligator bite minigame can be done after guessing cause of death in Autopsy only mode.

Issue: Rebinding movement buttons does not change in-game movement.

Issue: Button prompts can be visible and do not change while changing controls in Autopsy Only Mode.

Issue: The knife in the animation slices through the stomach before the player ends the stomach slicing minigame in Autopsy Only Mode.

Issue: "Bruises on head" can be photographed and pinned to the magnetic board before the General Photo.

Issue: Incorrect button prompts are displayed during alligator bite minigame in Autopsy Only Mode.

Issue: The Facial Edema mark on the female body's face doesn't cover the whole nose.

Issue: Player model's legs have no movement animation when looked at in camera mode.

Issue: Sometimes the clipboard noting information about one of the brain types does not appear in Autopsy Only Mode.

Issue: Some organs do not have physics enabled during a visual inspection in Autopsy Only Mode.

Issue: Scalpel is clipping with the body around collarbones and the head when holding the LMB during use.

Issue: Marks on the right hand do not move along with it during the Rigor Mortis.

Issue: The legs are clipping through the apron during movement.

Issue: After cutting the top of the body's head, the area where it was before is still marked as an interactive zone in Autopsy Only Mode.

Issue: Drawing blood with censorship on results in one of the censorship pixels being coloured red in Autopsy Only Mode.

Issue: Organic fluid string inside the chest beneath skin flap has no animation in Autopsy Only Mode.

Issue: Shadow resolution cannot be changed in graphic settings.

PTE Feedback

Have some feedback or ran into an issue in the PTE? Let us know in our Autopsy Discord server. We're also looking for specific feedback around the simulation gameplay, AOM's game-loop and scoring system, so we can collate your feedback and use this to create the best PTE possible!

How to join the PTE:

To join the PTE, head to the BETA tab in the properties of Autopsy Simulator in your Steam Library. Once here, select the 'None' drop down and an option named 'Autopsy_only_preview' will appear. Select this option from the drop-down and opt-into the AOM PTE branch!

Here are the full steps to access the AOM PTE:

Go to your Steam Library
Right Click on Autopsy Simulator
Click on Properties
Select the BETAS tab on the left
Select the 'None' drop down in the top right of the Beta menu.
Select 'Autopsy_only_preview' in the drop down menu.
Click on "Opt-into: Autopsy_only_preview"
Autopsy Simulator should now be downloading an update for Autopsy Only Mode! If not, simply quit and restart Steam.

Autopsy Only Mode - PTE Update 1 💉

Hey Pathologists, we've just rolled out an update for our PTE branch build for Autopsy Only Mode. Our first update for the AOM PTE adds a new Loppers minigame, fixes a bug around missing translation strings, adds improvements to the scoring and hint systems in Autopsy Only Mode, and more.

Patch Notes - Update 1 - Autopsy Only Mode PTE

Additions

Addition of the Loppers Minigame for removing the rib cage.
Addition of placeholder textures for specific conditions and wound graphics which now replace missing art assets in Autopsy Only Mode, to remove some ‘X mark’ placeholders for assets.
Examinations now have full descriptions, instead of single words for their examination descriptions.
Addition of randomized facial hair style and head design for the cadaver.
Additional sequence added to Autopsy Only Mode at the end of the Autopsy, where the player puts the body inside the fridge to close out the examination.
Walkman is now added as an intractable object.
Players can now interact with the in-game radio, which plays the main theme of Autopsy Simulator.

Fixes

Fixed a bug around missing translations strings found in documents throughout Autopsy Only Mode.
Blood tests are now fully functional in Autopsy Only Mode.

Improvements

Player now has to take photos and use the magnifier tool to inspect the cadaver before opening the body.
Overall improvements to the hint systems in Autopsy Only Mode.
Specific tweaks to the scoring system in Autopsy Only Mode.
Added some music and sound effects to Autopsy Only Mode.

NOTE: Our PTE is currently in English Only. We'll be looking to add more languages soon, but as this is a pre-alpha build the game mode is in English only. AOM will feature more languages in full release!

PTE Known Issues

Although we've fixed a number of bugs found in our previous playtest, the PTE build remains a pre-alpha meaning you'll likely run into issues throughout your playthrough. Our Known Issues list is below:

Softlock Issues:

Issue: Changing the Action button in the Controls menu makes neither LMB nor the new button working in menus for Autopsy Only Mode.
What to do: Avoid changing the action button. Our settings are a work in progress for this build, so this functionality is not yet finalized.

Issue: After finishing a blood test, if you quickly interact with another object or pull away from the blood test the game can softlock.
What to do: When finishing blood test with microscope, avoid quickly pressing the left mouse button. The cursor icon can be visible and still cause a softlock, so wait until your character's point of view has returned before left clicking.

Issue: The pipette screen can occasionally softlock.
What to do: The pipette may stay in the players control after completing the mini game, which blocks moving on. If happens it should be safe to restart the game mode.

Issue: Checking blood under a microscope occasionally softlocks the game.
What to do: If the blood under the microscope freezes, try to exit with right mouse button. If this continues, restart via the pause menu.

Other Issues:

Issue: Putting on gloves and aprons on at the end of an autopsy may cause players to revive points towards their final score. This is a current error and does not impact gameplay.

Issue: Players are unable to highlight wounds on the clipboard in Autopsy Only Mode. The Clipboard is not finalized yet and is a work in progress.

Issue: Whilst remapped to a different button, the tab button will open but not close.
What to do: Avoid button remapping. Our settings are a work in progress at this stage of development.

Issue: Settings control options can be inconsistent in Autopsy Only Mode. Our current settings menus are still a work in progress for AOM and will be finalized for future builds/for the full launch of Autopsy Only Mode.

Issue: Button prompts do not change when button remapping in Autopsy Only Mode and can display the wrong buttons when changing controls.
What to do: Avoid button remapping. Our settings are a work in progress at this stage of development.

Issue: The controls menu and options inside this menu react with a delay in Autopsy Only Mode. These settings are a work in progress and will be updated soon.

Issue: Entering the Pause Menu and pressing Back while interacting with the cadaver makes parts of the interface disappear.
What to do: Re-entering the Pause Menu brings the UI back.

Issue: Some sound effects are missing from Autopsy Only Mode, as sound effects are still a work in progress for the game mode.

Issue: After cutting the top of the cadaver’s head, the area can remain marked as an interactive zone when this action is complete. This is a visual issue and has no impact on gameplay.

Issue: If you turn censorship on and draw blood from the cadaver, it results in one pixel being coloured red in Autopsy Only Mode. This issue has no impact on gameplay.

Issue: The incorrect voice-over is triggered when picking up the liver in Autopsy Only Mode. Our sound effects are not yet finalised for Autopsy Only Mode.

Issue: When opening up the chest of the cadaver, there’s currently no animation for the stringed fluid beneath the chest. This is a visual issue only.

Issue: Shadow resolution cannot be changed in the graphics settings menu in Autopsy Only Mode. Our settings are still a work in progress and will be finalised later for Autopsy Only Mode.

Issue: A ‘Skip’ prompt will appear in the lower right corner whilst some voiceover lines are active, which currently is unusable. This is a work in progress and this button is currently a visual placeholder. It will function in the final version/future builds of Autopsy Only Mode.

Issue: The page for marking and noting wounds on organ’s can sometimes be incorrect, marking on the main page instead in Autopsy Only Mode. The clipboard is a work in progress and its functionality is not yet final.

Issue: Music is not present in Autopsy Only Mode. Our music and sound effects are not yet finalised for Autopsy Only Mode’s PTE.

PTE Feedback

Have some feedback or ran into an issue in the PTE? Let us know in our Autopsy Discord server. We're also looking for specific feedback around the simulation gameplay, AOM's game-loop and scoring system, so we can collate your feedback and use this to create the best PTE possible!

How to join the PTE:

To join the PTE, head to the BETA tab in the properties of Autopsy Simulator in your Steam Library. Once here, select the 'None' drop down and an option named 'Autopsy_only_preview' will appear. Select this option from the drop-down and opt-into the AOM PTE branch!

Here are the full steps to access the AOM PTE:

Go to your Steam Library
Right Click on Autopsy Simulator
Click on Properties
Select the BETAS tab on the left
Select the 'None' drop down in the top right of the Beta menu.

We're excited to announce that our PTE for Autopsy Only Mode is now live on Steam!

In our PTE, players can experience a pre-alpha version of our new Autopsy Only Mode game mode. Before we explain how to join the PTE, we want to make the community aware that the PTE uses a pre-alpha build. This version is in early development, which means you may run into bugs and issues during our PTE.

NOTE: Our PTE is currently in English Only. We'll be looking to add more languages soon, but as this is a pre-alpha build the game mode is in English only. AOM will feature more languages in full release!

We wanted to grant the community access to this pre-alpha build to gather your feedback regarding the game mode. We plan to make changes to the game mode based on your PTE feedback from Steam Discussions, our Autopsy Simulator Discord and our social channels!

How to join our PTE

Good news- we've made joining the PTE simpler for all Steam users!

PTE Known Issues

As our PTE is a pre-alpha build of Autopsy Only Mode, we're releasing a playtest build with some known issues. We've listed these issues below, with workarounds available incase you run into any of these bugs.

The team working on Autopsy Only Mode are hard at work to fix these issues and improve the game mode ahead of future playtests and the full release of Autopsy Only Mode!

Known Issues List

Softlock Issues:
Issue: Lungs can become doubled lungs that softlock the player after cutting them in Autopsy Only Mode
What to do: Lungs can be moved to the cutting board but cutting them causes a softlock, avoid cutting the lungs – the mini game may be failed safely.

Issue:When smoking is the cause of death, the Trachea is missing on cutting table causing a softlock.
What to do: When taking out the trachea, if the clipboard states that the cadaver was a smoker, avoid cutting it.

Issue: After finishing a blood test, if you quickly interact with another object or pull away from the blood test the game can softlock.
What to do: When finishing blood test with microscope, avoid quickly pressing the left mouse button. The cursor icon can be visible and still cause a softlock, so wait until your character's point of view has returned before left clicking.

Issue: The pipette screen can occasionally softlock.
What to do: The pipette may stay in the players control after completing the mini game, which blocks moving on. If happens it should be safe to restart the game mode.

Issue: Checking blood under a microscope occasionally softlocks the game.
What to do: If the blood under the microscope freezes, try to exit with right mouse button. If this continues, restart via the pause menu.

Issue: Restarting the organ mini game may block the player from interacting with other objects.
What to do: Don’t spam any buttons when re-interacting with organ after failing mini game.

Other Issues:

Issue: Players are still able to make photos of injury marks after cutting the head open in Autopsy Only Mode.
What to do: For a fully immersive experience start every autopsy by doing photos.

Issue: If players remap their buttons, some menus will open but not close.
What to do: Button mapping is still being worked on, avoid remapping buttons.

Issue: Camera can be opened during Pipette screen.
What to do: Pressing F opens camera at the same time, but does not affect the test and it can be completed safely

Issue: Button prompts can be visible and do not change when button remapping in Autopsy Only Mode.
What to do: Button mapping is still being worked on, avoid remapping buttons.

Issue: Controls submenu and all options inside react to inputs with a delay in Autopsy Only Mode.
What to do: Button mapping is still being worked on, avoid remapping buttons

Issue: Entering Pause Menu and pressing Back while interacting with the cadaver makes parts of the interface disappear.
What to do: Do not press Back (default on keyboard is RMB) while in the pause menu.

Issue: Shadow resolution cannot be change in graphic settings
What to do: The shadow resolution option may be still accessed via Main Menu settings, but the shadow settings are still being worked on.

Issue: After operating on the cadaver, players are still able to make a general photo in Autopsy Only Mode.
What to do: For a fully immersive experience start every autopsy by doing photos.

Issue: Some voice-overs have a "Skip" prompt in the lower right corner when this option is yet to be configured in Autopsy Only Mode.
What to do: Button mapping is still being worked on, at the moment it is safe to try and press the skip button (it does not affect the gameplay).

The team working on Autopsy Only Mode is working hard to fix these issues for future playtests and for Autopsy Only Mode's release!

We are excited to announce that our PTE for Autopsy Only Mode arrives tomorrow on Steam!

Before we get into the key information, we want to make the community aware that tomorrow's AOM PTE will feature a pre-alpha build. Our PTE AOM build is an early development of our new game mode, which means that you may run into bugs and issues during tomorrow's PTE.

We'll be sharing a list of current known issues with the community ahead of time. We're also using this period to collate feedback surrounding the game loop of Autopsy Only Mode and the simulation gameplay mechanics, before the new game modes release!

What is a PTE?

A Public Test Environment is a version of the game available for download that lets you play unreleased, alpha/beta-phase content. By running a PTE, we’ll test our game modes' new features, scoring system, gameplay mechanics and bug searching. It’s also important to note that the content in our PTE may contain issues and incomplete features, as it will be an alpha build.

How do I join the PTE?

Tomorrow, we'll provide the community with a branch code for Autopsy Simulator which will grant players access to Autopsy Only Mode. Once you've added the branch code to Autopsy Simulator in your Steam library, you'll have access to our AOM alpha build.

Here are the steps of how to add a branch code to Autopsy Simulator, ready for you tomorrow:

Go to your Steam Library
Right Click on Autopsy Simulator
Click on Properties
Select the BETAS tab on the left
Input the branch code (this will be provided on PTE launch day) and click "Check Code"

Today, we're providing the latest update around our Autopsy Only Mode game mode, our Public Testing Environment, and how players will join our PTE. In our last Devlog, we revealed our plans for a PTE for Autopsy Only Mode. We're happy to announce that our PTE for AOM is on track for a playable beta build in late September!

We are looking forward to our community having a hands-on experience with AOM and gathering community feedback before the full launch of our new game mode.

New PTE Details

Today, we'd like to announce that the PTE will be open to all who own Autopsy Simulator on Steam!

On PTE launch day, we'll provide the community with a branch code for Autopsy Simulator, which will grant players access to Autopsy Only Mode. Once you've added the branch code to Autopsy Simulator in your Steam library, you'll have access to our AOM beta build.

Here are the steps of how to add a branch code to Autopsy Simulator, ready for you in late September:

An update on Autopsy Only Mode

Since our last Devlog, our team has been focusing on Autopsy Only Mode's development to bring more simulation gameplay to Autopsy Simulator! Today, we have some news updates and screenshots to share from our alpha build of AOM.

Firstly, the team has been focused on implementing new assets into Autopsy Only Mode, adding new voice-overs for the game mode, adjusting the current mini-games and adding new mini-games to Autopsy Simulator for AOM. Our current focus is to implement changes and improvements that elevate the simulation gameplay for our new game mode.

New Cadavers to dissect

In our last Devlog, we announced that Autopsy Only Mode will bring three new and varied cadavers to Autopsy Simulator. The team has been working hard on the new Cadavers, and we're happy to share two concept screenshots below! 👇

Each time you dissect a cadaver, there will be eight possible causes of death, with seven generic causes of death across all cadavers and three unique causes of death, one per cadaver.

We've also implemented fourteen decoy causes of death. Decoy causes of death include injuries or harm. They are meant to cause misdirection to the player whilst developing the narrative of the events unfolding as you progress through the autopsy.

We've implemented decoy causes of death to add more randomness to the game mode and increase AOM's replayability. We will cover more about this new feature in a future Devlog!

Changes to the Clipboard 📋

We've also made alterations to the Clipboard which now contains the Crime Scene Police Report in AOM. This has had a total revamp for the new game mode, and now contains integral information about the cadaver and randomised photographs from the event of the crime.

This folder will also contain the victim's information, the condition of the scene and the condition of the body. All factors above are completely randomised for each game of AOM. This information will assist the player in coming to their conclusions in the autopsy room.

Today, we’re bringing you a new Devlog detailing more about the future of Autopsy Simulator. In this Devlog, we’ll discuss our new development partners and provide a well-requested news update regarding our Autopsy Only Mode future update.

An update on Development Partners for Autopsy Simulator

Before speaking about the future of Autopsy Simulator, we’d like to provide the community with an update regarding Autopsy Simulator's development partners. Woodland Games are no longer the active development team working on Autopsy Simulator. Team17 Digital would like to thank Woodland Games for their dedication to developing Autopsy Simulator over the last four years and for their efforts to bring Autopsy Simulator: Dead Memories to Steam.

Team17 Digital has partnered with Epiphany Games to develop Autopsy Simulator’s Autopsy Only Mode update. Epiphany Games has a proven track record of delivering high-quality content and has previously worked with Team17 on several titles, including the console adaptations of DREDGE. We’re thrilled to work with Epiphany Games again to bring future updates to the Autopsy Simulator community.

An update regarding Autopsy Only Mode

Last month we discussed a handful of Austopsy Only Mode's features. This included AOM's focus on simulation gameplay, randomised causes of death in the game mode and players being graded and scored by performance in the Autopsy Room.

Today, we have more information to provide regarding the new game mode!

In Autopsy Only Mode, players will become a student Pathologist and will be scored based on a set of specific criteria, which includes:

The flow of the Autopsy: Ensure all areas of the internal and external examinations were conducted. If some procedures or areas were skipped, players will be docked points from their final score.
Player’s carefulness: Players will need to consider their options, as planning which examinations will be needed and performance in mini-games will all affect a player’s final score in AOM. Unnecessary examinations will prove costly, as incorrect examinations will negatively impact player’s scores.
Final cause of death judgement: Select the correct cause of death for the cadaver and you will gain points and a better final rank.
Clean-up: High quality and effective stitching of the cadaver will score players more points.

Since our launch last month, we’ve heard players' feedback about the fixed state of the causes of death in Autopsy Simulator: Dead Memories. This will be different in Autopsy Only Mode, with players being able to select the cause of death for each cadaver.

In Autopsy Only Mode, there will be three varied cadavers to dissect with ten total causes of death across the game mode. The causes of death are split between two categories, with seven generic causes of death across all cadavers and three unique causes of death, one per cadaver. When players begin their game in AOM, there will be eight possible causes of death for each body. Start the external exams, plan your next steps, track possible causes, conduct internal exams, find the correct cause of death and close the body by stitching it up!

Autopsy Only Mode will score players on their performance during the autopsy. The team working on AOM will be reworking mini-games, allowing for enhancements to be made to the tools and the scoring system. This will provide more precise scoring and will allow for the failure of certain mini-games. Players need to be as efficient as possible whilst in the autopsy room by cutting organs precisely without wonky skull cutting or off-centre organ dissection, taking useful polaroid photographs during the investigation stage and more!

Public Testing Environment Announcement

PTE arriving September for Autopsy Only Mode

Today, we’re announcing our Public Testing Environment will arrive for Autopsy Only Mode in September. The introduction of this PTE in September provides an opportunity for the community to playtest our AOM update, with our team gathering community feedback around the game mode update before the update’s full release. We aim to involve the community as much as we can in the development of Autopsy Only Mode!

What is a PTE?

A Public Test Environment is a version of the game available for download that lets you play unreleased, beta-phase content. By running a PTE, we’ll test our game modes' new features, scoring system, gameplay mechanics and bug searching. It’s also important to note that the content in September may contain issues and incomplete features, as it will be a beta build.

How can I be a part of the PTE?

When we’re closer to September, we’ll have further details regarding the Public Testing Environment – including information on how to be a part of our Autopsy Only Mode PTE! We've chosen to run a PTE before the full release of AOM to ensure the update lives up to the community's expectations, and so that the new game mode releases in the best state possible!

Our Commitment Moving Forward

Lastly, we'd like to thank the community for all their feedback and passion towards Autopsy Simulator since our launch last month! We also want to assure you that the development team are hard at work creating Autopsy Only Mode and we are excited to involve the community in AOM's development during our PTE, to achieve the best update possible for Autopsy Simulator!

We'll be sharing more news around the update between now and our PTE in September and look forward to showcasing more from our Autopsy Only Mode in more frequent Devlogs.

Today, we want to discuss: our future free content update Autopsy Only Mode, which will bring more simulation gameplay, and clarify the differences between Dead Memories and the upcoming Autopsy Only Mode.

Before jumping into the points of the Devlog above, we want to thank the community for all the feedback around Autopsy Simulator since our launch yesterday. We want to reassure you all that we're hearing your feedback around simulation gameplay, our narrative mode Dead Memories, AOM's future features, and more. All of your feedback and suggestions here on Steam are monitored and raised to the team working on Autopsy Simulator.

Autopsy Only Mode

Firstly, we want to discuss Autopsy Only Mode, the upcoming free update to Autopsy Simulator! Yesterday, we announced our Autopsy Only Mode is now in development, bringing a new sandbox-style game mode to Autopsy Simulator. Below is some key information regarding our upcoming game mode:

- Autopsy Only Mode takes place in the morgue only, with players able to interact with items and tools in the morgue's key rooms. This includes the Laboratory, Storeroom, and the integral area, the Dissection Room.

- This content update will focus on simulation gameplay, with players' Autopsy Examinations being scored in a grading system. Your score will be determined by several variables including the timing and speed of your work, the flow of the autopsy, performance in tests, and more. Tests in Autopsy Only Mode can be failed, which will have a larger effect on your final scoring.

- Autopsy Only Mode features randomised causes of death. It's your aim to examine the body, conduct external and internal tests, and correctly verify the patient's cause of death. Then it's time to close and stitch up the body before discovering your final score!

Dead Memories

We'd also like to use this Devlog to clarify the features of Dead Memories, our standalone game mode which released yesterday:

- Dead Memories is a story based game mode. You play as Jack Hanman, a middle-aged pathologist. After a career downfall and the loss of your beloved wife, you live each day exhausted. One day during a post-mortem, you find a relic of your past hidden inside a body. Now, it feels like something just won’t let go. Follow the journey of Jack, a practice pathologist and unravel the mystery of both the patients deaths' and discover more about Jack's life, which has taken a turn for the worst.

- Our story mode is a blend of two contrasting genres- Psychological Horror and Medical-Sim gameplay. This game mode is narrative-driven, with five bodies to dissect, and contains several horror moments and jumpscares throughout.

- Dead Memories contains five hours of content, with the story mode containing multiple endings.

- Dead Memories is our standalone game mode for launch which contains five hours of content, with Autopsy Only Mode implemented in an upcoming free update. Autopsy Only Mode brings more simulation gameplay in the future, with more details found below!

We're extremely pleased to announce that Autopsy Simulator has gone gold! We want to begin by thanking you all for supporting us- it's been a long development journey since the creation of Autopsy Simulator, which has spanned over the last four years. We genuinely appreciate your patience whilst we've been making our psychological horror simulator game the best it can be! The gold master of the game is ready for players to experience on 6th June and we cannot wait to see your first impressions of Autopsy Simulator!

Alongside this news, we have new screenshots from our gold master build to share with you all! 👀 But before we jump into this, we want to run the community through all the main tools you have at your disposal in the Autopsy Room.

Autopsy Tools

Magnifier

After documenting the cadaver in the condition it arrived with the Polaroid camera, we need to take a closer inspection of the areas with external abnormalities before we document these on our report. It's worth remembering the context around the scene of the death. You'll do so via the police report, which you'll read before conducting each autopsy. This allows you to interpret any traces found on the body during the magnifier inspection.

To use the Magnifier tool, select Magnifier on the tool wheel and begin to examine the areas highlighted on the body. In the example below, we're investigating the which seems to contain a bite mark. We'll need to jot that down and inspect this further into the examination.

UV Lamp

Need to check for external traces? The good old UV Lamp is the tool you'll need for conducting external analysis during your autopsy. Select this tool and scan the whole body, looking closely and carefully for any UV ray traces.

Scalpel

Moving from external to internal, we'll need to cut open the body and begin the remainder of the examination. Grab the Scalpel tool to begin cutting. The incision should be in the shape of the letter 'Y'. Use a deep cut to reach the ribs and penetrate the abdominal wall. Once the body is fully cut open, we peel back and separate the skin to perform the internal examination.

Loppers

The loppers are a crucial tool for the internal examination. Use the Lopper tool to remove the ribs from the body. This will allow you to explore the main organs below, including the heart and lungs. (We'd like to say that the loppers have a very satisfying crunch sound.)

Saw

Next up, we have the oscillating saw. Utilise this tool to inspect the brain for abnormalities by opening up the cranium. The cut with the saw is made from ear to ear. After which, remove the skin and the top of the skull and then cut the brain starting from the occipital lobe. In this way, the dura mater of the brain is slowly exposed.

Once the cut of the cranium is complete, we can perform a basic examination of the brain. You may need to examine the brain further by taking a cross-section on the cutting board.

Syringe

Taking samples from the cadaver is useful for toxicological tests. To do so, we select the Syringe tool and draw blood from the key highlighted areas. In the example below, we're taking samples from three organs to be sure of alcohol levels in the body. We draw 5ml of blood from the eyeball, the heart, and the bladder, for later analysis which will rule out or confirm if alcohol poisoning was the cause of death.

Needle

Finished the autopsy and found the cause of death? Once you've added your signature to the Autopsy Summary Report documentation, the case is solved- but for us, this is not the end. We need to close the body and grab the needle tool. Unroll the skin flaps and sew the deceased back up using the 'Baseball Stitch' technique- a strong and quick stitch.

We recently made changes to our Needle tool to enhance its realism! This has been achieved by updating the stitch style and adding a pulled skin effect to this tool.

Alongside the tools above, several pieces of equipment you'll need during specific autopsy examinations are placed around the Autopsy Room, the Laboratory, and even a few in the Cellar. 👀 This includes Microscope Examinations, Fax Machine and PC Database Analysis, Fingerprint Examinations, and more!
