As some may know, Forest Liberation was not released on the expected date. This is because
when I was playing through it looking for issues, I came to the conclusion that this did not feel
the way I wanted it to. I was upset by this and took a long break from the project.
I found numerous things I could have done better during some of my tests and decided that I was
going to redo the project. I got rid of many things that didn't prove useful, or even make sense. I have also gave more attention to atmosphere, the environment, dialog and the UI (user interface).
Some of the many things I have added or changed include:
- Added animations to certain objects. (Trees, grass, rocks, etc)
- Added a better dialog system.
- Added clouds and wind.
- Added image effects to enhance atmosphere.
- Bullets now have trails.
- Objects now cast shadows. (Trees, grass, rocks, etc)
- Remade all sprites/textures.
- The enemies can now wander around instead of waiting for the player to be near them.
- The player now has options as to what they can say to NPCs.
- The world used to be generated by noise, but is now hand painted.
- Updated engine to Unity 2020.2.0f1.
I am also working on the story of Forest Liberation. Before I redid this project, I felt like it wasn't very engaging. I feel that a story would remove that feeling as well as give it a purpose.
Forest Liberation will be released sometime this year (2021). I don't want to pin an exact date till it's good and ready for others to play. Since I have already missed my initial release date, I want to ensure that when I do release it. That its a good product, and worth the money.
Once I get another large chunk of work done, I will make another announcement. That way those of you who are interested in Forest Liberation know whats going on and when to expect it.
