When we look back 5 years, we can see a small group of developers passionate about technology and the future. We had experience in software and hardware development and we were early adopters of VR devices, but creating videogames for a platform such as Oculus Quest was something totally new.
Today, or first step into the amazing world of immersive technologies turns five years.
A thrilling journey
We strongly believe in the infinite possibilities of the XR world and we found a great idea that could be our first step into the VR realm: a rhythm game where you have to use your whole body, but simple enough to understand the mechanics with the snap of a finger. It also had to be fun to enjoy with family and friends. After a brainstorming of ideas, we decided to create OhShape, a VR rhythm game inspired by the Japanese TV show Brain Wall and videogame cult classics like the popular arcade Dance Dance Revolution.
Walls with different poses come at you and you have to fit in, dodge or punch your way trough the level. Wether you make it look stylish or fun, it’s up to you!
What OhShape mean to us
OhShape is our first project, and because of this it will always hold a special place in our hearts. What we learnt and grew during its development is an unforgettable experience, and not only from the point of view of the knowledge and experience we acquire in the field of videogame development: it also forged the foundations of Odders as a company.
The first year working with OhShape was a crazy rollercoaster: we received precious feedback at video game fairs, we faced the thrill of launching OhShape on Steam and Oculus Quest, we were locked in 2020 due to the pandemic and we went to work hard to improve the OhShape experience with everything we had.
During this process, our players became a fundamental pillar to continue improving day by day. We found a super friendly and supportive community that gave us great help and feedback. We also noticed how much OhShape was helping people to stay fit during the lockdown, which inspired us to put more efforts into this type of developments.
A year of renewal
Being 5 years old is a lifetime in videogame development, specially considering how fast XR technology is evolving with new headsets almost every year. But we don’t want to forget about our legacy, that’s why we decided to add content and improvements to OhShape in 2024. We started the year with the Power Up update, adding a new fitness album and making the DLC Electro Party free for every OhShape owner. On top of that, we recently added LIV support to the Steam version, making it easy for the content creators who gave us support through these years… and for the newcomers who are discovering our game today!
Looking at the future
We do not have enough words to describe the excitement of this anniversary. From Odders we want to thank you for your support throughout these years. We have exciting new projects in the pipeline, but we won’t forget about OhShape and we will always listen to our community to keep adding details into our beloved first project.
