First and foremost, we'd like to thank everyone for the hugely positive reception to our recent Elite - All American announcement. It's always exciting to reveal a new campaign, but seeing the enthusiasm for the legendary 82nd Airborne Division has been especially awesome, as it has been for all Elite Series Campaigns!

As we continue our march towards release, we wanted to take some time to share a few of our thoughts on the campaign, discuss some of the design decisions behind it, and give players a preview of what they can expect from the latest entry in the Elite series.

Refresher: Why the 82nd?

When we first announced Elite - All American, we discussed how 2026 marks the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America. As July 4th approaches and celebrations continue across the US, we felt it was the perfect opportunity to spotlight one of the most famous formations in American military history.

Of course, there was no shortage of worthy candidates. The armored spearheads of Old Ironsides, the hard-fighting troops of Hell on Wheels, and the formations that served under Patton's Third Army all offered compelling possibilities. Yet after campaigns focused on armored warfare through Ghost Division and Soviet 1st Guards, we felt it was time to explore a different side of World War II.

A Campaign Designed for New and Returning Player Accessibility

After more than six years of expansions, updates, and DLC releases, Panzer Corps 2 has accumulated an enormous amount of content. Along the way we've created some truly unique battles, introduced increasingly sophisticated mechanics, and pushed the scale of scenarios far beyond what was possible when the game first launched.

While veteran players have generally embraced this complexity, we also felt there was room for a campaign that focused on approachability without sacrificing too much depth.

Elite - All American is built around that design philosophy.

Rather than asking players to constantly juggle multiple layers of complicated mechanics, extensive multi-stage objectives, and sprawling battlefield management, we've focused on creating scenarios with clear goals, intuitive objectives, and multiple viable approaches to victory.

That doesn't necessarily mean the campaign is easy, a good grasp of infantry combat and paratrooper mechanics will be vital to success.

Instead, the emphasis has shifted toward player choice. We want players to spend less time deciphering complex mission structures and more time making meaningful tactical decisions. Whether you're a veteran commander who has been with Panzer Corps for fifteen years or a newer player looking for a place to begin your journey, Elite - All American is designed to be approachable, flexible, and rewarding.

A Campaign of New Variety

One of the biggest strengths of the 82nd Airborne's wartime record is the incredible variety of operations it participated in.

Ghost Division largely followed the rise of German armored warfare, while Soviet 1st Guards focused heavily on the brutal armored clashes that characterized the Eastern Front. Elite - All American takes players somewhere entirely different.

Rather than spending the entire campaign fighting across a single theater, players will experience a constantly changing battlefield. The campaign begins under the Mediterranean sun of Sicily before moving through the mountains of Italy, the hedgerows of Normandy, the rivers and bridges of the Netherlands, the frozen forests of the Ardennes, and finally into Germany itself.

Each of these battlefields presents its own unique challenges. Terrain, objectives, enemy forces, and tactical opportunities are constantly evolving. Just as the real 82nd Airborne found itself adapting to new missions throughout the war, players will be required to do the same.

One battle may focus on defending key positions against determined enemy counterattacks. The next may demand a rapid advance to seize critical objectives before German reinforcements arrive.

History First

As with Ghost Division and Soviet 1st Guards before it, Elite - All American continues our commitment to a History First philosophy.

That means no fictional operations, no alternate-history scenarios, and no speculative campaigns. The spotlight remains firmly fixed on the real actions and achievements of the men who served in the US 82nd Airborne Division during the Second World War.

Players will encounter briefings featuring the key figures who helped shape the division's wartime history, including General Omar Bradley, General Matthew Ridgway, and General James Gavin. These commanders were not merely observers of history, but active participants in some of the most important battles fought by the United States Army in Europe.

We have also continued our efforts to faithfully represent the locations, battlefields, and historical landmarks associated with these operations. From Sainte-Mère-Église and La Fière Bridge in Normandy to the bridges of Nijmegen and the forests of the Ardennes, players will find themselves fighting across many of the same locations that became synonymous with the division's legacy.

As always, our goal is not simply to tell players about history, but to place them in command of the events themselves.

The Airborne Difference

Of course, no discussion of the 82nd Airborne would be complete without talking about what makes airborne troops different from conventional infantry or armored formations.

Throughout the campaign, players will frequently find themselves operating with limited resources, isolated positions, and objectives that must be secured before enemy forces can react. While the United States Army certainly fielded armored formations during the war, we all know no Sherman Tank could fight toe to toe with a Panther or Tiger. They would need numerical superiority and also to close the distance to achieve penetrating shots on such German Heavy Panzers. So units like the 82nd often found itself relying on elite infantry, aggressive maneuver, and tactical ingenuity to overcome opponents that possessed superior armor and firepower.

This creates a very different style of gameplay from many previous Panzer Corps campaigns.

Players will be called upon to conduct rapid assaults, secure key terrain, defend vital objectives against determined counterattacks, and exploit fleeting opportunities before the enemy can regroup. Proper use of terrain, combined arms tactics, and careful positioning will often prove more important than simply overwhelming the enemy through brute force.

Many of the campaign's most memorable moments come directly from these historical realities. Holding La Fière Bridge against repeated German attacks. Racing to secure critical crossings during Operation Market Garden. Counterattacking during the desperate winter fighting of the Battle of the Bulge.

The 82nd Airborne earned its reputation through speed, adaptability, and determination. We wanted those same qualities to define the gameplay experience as well.

The Art Of Elite: All American

One of the most enjoyable parts of developing any Elite campaign is seeing history brought to life through artwork, and Panzer Corps 2 continues its promise not to use Generative AI artworks for official content.

For Elite - All American, we once again worked to ensure that the campaign's visual presentation captures both the scale of the conflict and the unique identity of the 82nd Airborne. From the airborne drops over Normandy to the snow-covered battlefields of the Ardennes, the artwork seeks to reflect the wide variety of environments featured throughout the campaign.

As always, we'd like to extend our thanks to the talented artists who continue to help bring these historical campaigns to life. Their work plays a major role in establishing the atmosphere and character of each operation, helping transform historical events into memorable gaming experiences.

2026 is proving to be quite the remarkable year for anniversaries. While Panzer Corps prepares to celebrate its 15th Anniversary on July 11th, the United States of America marks the most extraordinary milestone on July 4th: 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

This year also marks the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge, two of the most famous American engagements of World War II. As we reflect on these historic anniversaries, we could not help but notice another fitting connection: the legendary 82nd Airborne Division fought in both of them. From the skies over Normandy to the frozen forests of the Ardennes, the "All American" Division was at the forefront of some of the most important battles fought by the United States in Europe.

As proud as we are of the Panzer Corps franchise reaching fifteen years, our anniversary is but a drop of water in the ocean compared to the quarter millennium history of an entire nation. So, in our own small way to help mark and commemorate this special year for the United States, we wanted our next Elite Campaign to pay tribute to one of the most famous formations in American military history: the legendary 82nd Airborne Division, the "All American" Division.

There were many worthy candidates for our choice for the next Elite Campaign. From the armored spearheads of the 1st Armored Division "Old Ironsides" and the 2nd Armored Division "Hell on Wheels," to the hard-fighting formations of Patton's Third Army, America fielded no shortage of iconic units during the Second World War. However, after the heavy tank battles featured in our Ghost Division and Soviet 1st Guards campaigns, we felt it was time for a change of pace. An Airborne Division offers a completely different flavor of combat, and no American formation embodied it better than the 82nd Airborne.

And once we closely examined and researched the combat record of the 82nd, we knew we had found our star. From Sicily and Italy, to the skies over Normandy on D-Day, to Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge, the 82nd Airborne was present at every single one of these major American engagements fought on the Western Front of the European Theater. The result is truly an action-packed journey through some of the most famous battles of World War II!

In our previous Dev Diary, we explored how the British and American campaigns of Allied Operations – Italy Volume 1 evolve and finally merge into one united Allied front.

Now, it’s time to look at what happens within those battles: the events, commendation points, and objectives that make every scenario more than just a fight for victory.

This time, the spotlight is on player agency and how your actions on the field can unlock unique rewards, units, and surprises.

COMMENDATION POINTS ARE BACK

Yes, you read that right: Commendation Points will return in Italy Volume 1!

Just like in Axis Operations, you’ll earn Commendation Points (CP) by completing specific tasks, achieving difficult goals, or making daring tactical choices.

CPs are tied to special events and branching opportunities throughout the campaign.

You can spend or save them at key decision points to unlock alternative reinforcements, unique units, or powerful heroes. The choices are tempting, but resources are limited: use your points wisely.

Let’s take a closer look at how you can earn and spend Commendation Points.

COMMENDATION POINTS EVENTS

These are interactive moments that appear during scenarios, allowing you to spend your accumulated CP on valuable rewards.
Each event presents a choice: do you use your points now, or save them for something bigger later?

Options may include access to exclusive Allied units, captured enemy equipment, which enables you to deploy some of the Axis’ most powerful units, and prototype units assigned for field testing, even if they were historically introduced later on other fronts.
In some cases, you may also unlock Super Heroes: characters with powerful, synergistic traits capable of significantly enhancing your overall war effort.

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES: HISTORICAL AND SPECIAL

But how do you earn Commendation Points? Mainly through the completion of secondary objectives, designed to tie history and player creativity together.

Historical Objectives

Historical objectives are inspired by real events and milestones of the Sicilian campaign. Completing them may grant story-driven or gameplay-based benefits in the next mission: reinforcements, bonus prestige, or adjusted battlefield conditions, as well as the coveted CP.

These objectives are the connective tissue that grounds the campaign in authenticity, ensuring that your success (or failure) mirrors the real flow of Operation Husky.

Upon completing historical objectives, you will relive some of the most significant episodes of this theater of war, from its most critical moments to its operational turning points. You will be required to make command decisions that will directly influence the course of your campaign.

How do they influence the campaign? One of the key features of these objectives is that, once completed, their effects carry over into subsequent scenarios, granting tangible advantages in the missions that follow and, in turn, shaping the overall course of the campaign.

Will you extend formal courtesies to a captured general, or transfer him under guard to Algeria? Will you halt an enemy advance outright, or merely delay it? Will you report an incident to the JAG, or suppress it?

The decision rests with you. The consequences will be decisive.

Special Objectives

Special objectives are tied directly to the Commendation system.

These optional challenges are particularly hard to accomplish, often requiring careful planning, precise execution, and a deep understanding of battlefield mechanics.

Successfully completing them rewards valuable CP, making them ideal for players who enjoy high-risk, high-reward gameplay and want to unlock additional options later through CP Events

Will you attempt to seize the enemy positions immediately, risking your units and expending valuable resources, or focus on consolidating your gains before pressing the attack?

CUSTOM HEROES

Some heroes featured in the campaign are based on real historical figures who played a significant role in the scenarios in which they appear.

These heroes are unlocked by completing Historical Objectives inspired by their actual deeds on the battlefield.

Once unlocked, they can be customized by selecting traits from a predefined pool. These traits are not generic, but are tied to the hero’s character and the actions they performed in battle, allowing you to shape their strengths and tailor them to your preferred playstyle while preserving their historical identity.

In this case, 21-year-old Withers decided to attack the Ponte Grande bridge with only his 30-strong platoon. This No. 15 Platoon had captured the Ponte Grande without suffering a single casualty. They immediately removed the detonators from the charges on the bridge, while Withers set up his men ready to defend the position.

Such a small and lightly equipped force could not hope to hold the bridge in the face of a determined counterattack, but Withers was determined to hold it until reinforcements arrived.

UPGRADABLE HEROES

Some heroes you acquire during the campaign will receive promotions as the campaign advances, unlocking new opportunities to enhance their abilities and define their role on the battlefield

At predetermined intervals, you will be presented with choices that allow you to shape each hero’s development, deciding how to specialize their abilities and which unit classes they are best suited to command.

Upon each promotion, heroes will gain access to new traits and stats that you can choose, enabling you to shape their capabilities and tactical role according to your strategic needs and preferred playstyle.

Each decision will influence not only the hero’s effectiveness but also the composition and performance of your core army, enabling a tailored approach to your preferred tactics and battlefield strategy.

Do you prefer a hero who can significantly boost an artillery unit, or a more solid choice that strengthens a tank? The choice is yours, depending on what you think will be most effective on the battlefield and suit your playstyle.

HIDDEN EVENTS & CACHES

For those who like to explore beyond the mission briefings, Italy Vol. 1 hides a few secrets of its own.
Hidden Events and Caches can be discovered on certain maps, rewarding exploration and initiative.

Sometimes you’ll find a stashed supply depot granting extra resources; other times, a narrative event that reveals more about the campaign’s history or perhaps even a small tactical surprise.

Additionally, some events become available based on your actions and choices during the campaign, leading to unexpected outcomes and ongoing discovery.

For example, securing a strategically important bridge might grant additional support in the following scenario. Similarly, capturing an enemy general could provide access to military intelligence, giving you resources that will help in subsequent battles.

HISTORICAL INFOS

Alongside hidden caches, special objectives, historical objectives, and the actions you choose to take, we have introduced Historical Info.

These are concise, briefing-style entries designed to enrich the experience for players with an interest in military history and curiosity about specific events. Each entry provides the historical counterpart to your in-game actions and completed objectives, detailing what happened, how events unfolded, and the consequences that followed in reality.

They may also include technical insights into the equipment encountered throughout the scenarios, offering a clearer understanding of the tools and forces at play on the battlefield

Being tied mostly to the Historical objectives, Historical Info serves as an optional layer of depth: a contextual framework that enhances immersion, rewards curiosity, and connects gameplay decisions to their real-world origins and implications.

A LIVING, REACTIVE CAMPAIGN

By combining Commendation Points, dynamic events, and secondary objectives, Italy Volume 1 creates a campaign that reacts to your style of command.
Your actions don’t just win battles, they shape how the war unfolds.

Whether you choose to spend your CP early for short-term power, or hoard them for decisive rewards later, every choice contributes to a personalized version of the Sicilian campaign.

And when your two core armies finally merge, they bring with them every consequence of your leadership, every earned reward, every unlocked unit, every decision made.

In the previous Dev Diary, we introduced the beginning of the Italian Campaign, the Allies’ first step back into Europe.

Now, it’s time to go deeper into how Panzer Corps 2: Allied Operations – Italy Volume 1 actually plays: a campaign built around two separate armies, two distinct paths that eventually converge, with a greater level of player agency that allows your actions to influence the course of the operation.

TWO ARMIES, TWO PATHS

When we began designing Italy Volume 1, we didn’t want to simply mix British and American missions or create a shared core army with units from both factions, at least not until the two forces historically converged on the same front.

The British and American advances followed markedly different and highly varied paths, and we wanted to reflect that diversity as faithfully as possible.
For this reason, we created two distinct operational paths, each with its own tone, pacing, and challenges.

The British Eighth Army, under General Montgomery, lands near Syracuse and pushes north through rivers, bridges, and fortified positions on the road to Catania and Mount Etna.
The U.S. Seventh Army, commanded by General Patton, advances from the beaches of Gela through Agrigento and Palermo, sweeping along Sicily’s western and northern coasts.

GB and US Campaigns

Which path you begin with is entirely up to you. Once you complete the chosen route, you will have the opportunity to experience Operation Husky again from the perspective of the other army, before both forces finally converge for the final push toward Messina.

Each force writes its own story, distinct in rhythm and tactical approach, yet together they form two complementary halves of the same historical campaign.

MERGING THE CORE ARMIES

After completing both operational paths, the two armies will converge into a single core army, ready to face the final challenge for the capture of Messina.

This isn’t just symbolic, it’s the culmination of every decision, every hard-fought victory, and every lesson learned along the way.
The newly merged core army carries forward all prestige, commendation points, heroes, experience, upgrades, and captured equipment from both forces, ensuring that every veteran and every weapon you’ve carefully developed continues to shape the battle.

After a long and difficult journey fought on separate fronts, British veterans from the landings and American armor advancing from Palermo will finally fight side by side in the struggle for control of Sicily.

And the story doesn’t end there: your core army can be carried over into the second chapter of Allied Operations, letting you continue the saga of your troops and heroes as the Allied advance through Italy unfolds.

SCENARIOS CONSEQUENCES

For Italy Volume 1, we wanted to give players more agency than ever before: a stronger sense that their decisions matter, not just within a single scenario, but across the entire campaign.
Each scenario presents multiple types of objectives. While the primary objectives must be completed to achieve victory, the special and historical objectives offer additional challenges and rewards for those who tackle them.

But these objectives aren’t just simple bonus tasks.
Instead, they can influence future scenarios in meaningful ways. For example, you may capture a city controlled by the enemy, and start the next scenario already holding that location, saving time and resources. And you may even gain additional support units.
Similarly, certain choices can reveal the location of hidden supply caches and the best approach to maximize their rewards, giving you strategic advantages later in the campaign.

Complete an objective, or fail it, and its consequences might be felt several missions later.
This new system rewards adaptability and long-term thinking, encouraging you to play not just for victory, but for how you achieve it.

In our next Developer Diary, we’ll dive deeper into how this enhanced player agency works in practice: how your performance, choices, and objectives ripple through the campaign, shaping later missions and even the final outcome.

NEW STRUCTURES

Much of the DLC focuses on breaking through the Axis defensive system, particularly the fortified lines in the northeastern part of the island. To add depth and variety to the Italian-German defenses, we introduced new defensive structures.

Wooden Pillbox

Unlike its reinforced concrete counterpart, the wooden pillbox is constructed from lighter, more readily available materials. This makes it weaker in both attack and defense, but it can be deployed in larger numbers, creating a dense network of obstacles for advancing forces.

These lighter fortifications represent the kind of ad hoc defenses Axis troops sometimes used to reinforce beaches or key positions when time or materials were limited.

Machine-Gun Nest

This defensive position houses a powerful machine gun capable of posing a serious threat to infantry and unarmored units. Its effectiveness against armored vehicles is limited, and it is much more fragile than other defensive structures. Despite these weaknesses, it remains a significant danger, capable of wiping out entire infantry squads if left unchecked.

Machine-gun nests were a staple of coastal and field defenses. In Sicily, they were typically deployed to cover narrow passes, roads, or beaches, forming overlapping fields of fire.
Their historical use demonstrates how a small, well-placed defensive team could hold up much larger forces.

Ground of Conflict

After the development of Panzer Corps 2: Frontlines - Cyrenaica, we never abandoned the idea of a dual campaign.

In fact, we built upon it, improving, refining, and expanding the concept while listening carefully to your feedback.

THE CAMPAIGN

The result is Panzer Corps 2: Allied Operations – Italy Volume 1, the opening chapter of the Italian Campaign and the first step in the Allies’ return to Europe.

This new DLC marks the beginning of a broader journey that will follow the Allied advance across Italy, from the beaches of Sicily to the heart of the mainland: a new theatre of war, full of challenges, surprises, and opportunities for strategic depth.

EUROPE’S SOFTBELLY

The year is 1943.

With the Axis defeated in North Africa, the Allies prepare to strike at Europe’s southern flank.

The target: Sicily.

Codenamed Operation Husky, the invasion became one of the largest amphibious invasions in history, involving American, British, and Canadian forces under the command of General Harold Alexander, commander of the 15th Army Group.

This campaign is more than a sequence of battles. It tells the story of two Allied armies advancing along opposite coasts, facing different challenges, and ultimately converging for one of the most dramatic finales of the war.

Twelve historical scenarios will take you from the night of July 9th, 1943, when the first gliders crossed the Sicilian coast, to the race for Messina in mid-August, where British and American troops competed to be the first to raise their flag over the island.

A NEW THEATER OF WAR

Sicily is a land of sharp contrasts and a battlefield unlike any other.

Its biodiversity and geography make it as beautiful as it is hostile: scorching plains crossed by winding rivers, fertile valleys that suddenly rise into rocky mountains, and coastal towns clinging to cliffs above the sea.

Every hill, river, and village becomes part of the tactical puzzle.

Our goal was to make the Sicilian terrain feel like an active opponent, unpredictable, demanding, and constantly shaping the flow of battle.

This environment pushed the scenario design toward greater tactical depth, with terrain features that directly influence player decisions. River crossings split advancing forces, narrow mountain passes restrict armored units, and the many mountain ranges and rolling hills form natural fortified lines that must be breached.

The result is a variety of terrain that create a Mediterranean theatre that feels organic, unforgiving, and deeply atmospheric

ICONIC UNITS

From amphibious landings and airborne assaults to hard-fought battles in mountains and urban centers, these formations play a central role in shaping the flow of the campaign.

ALLIES

British Airborne Infantry

British airborne troops were among the first Allied units to enter the battle, landing behind enemy lines during the opening hours of the invasion.
Tasked with seizing key bridges and road junctions, they operate in isolation and under constant pressure.

British Commando

British Commandos played a key role during the Allied advance in Sicily, spearheading the push toward Messina.
Highly trained and adaptable, they excelled at flanking maneuvers and close-quarters combat, making them effective in breaking enemy defenses and securing strategic objectives.

U.S. Rangers

U.S. Rangers were trained for direct assaults against fortified positions and coastal defenses, reflecting their historical role during the landings at Gela and subsequent operations.
Their aggressive approach and resilience under fire made them effective at breaching enemy strongpoints and securing critical beachheads.

Allied Medium Armor

Medium tanks provide mobile fire support for infantry, but Sicily’s rugged terrain, narrow roads, and the superior firepower of Axis Panzer units often limit their effectiveness.
As a result, Allied medium tanks were most effective when operating in close coordination with infantry, rather than as independent spearheads.

AXIS UNITS

Italian Coastal Defense Units

Tasked with holding beaches and key ports, Italian coastal units are not the most feared formations of the war.
Still, prepared defenses and favorable terrain force attackers to commit extra resources to break through.

German Fallschirmjäger

Veterans of earlier campaigns, German paratroopers are deployed as elite infantry rather than airborne troops.

Hermann Göring Division

Elements of the Hermann Göring Division provide armored and mechanized support to German forces in Sicily. Combining infantry, armor, and heavy weapons, these units are often used in counterattacks and defensive operations aimed at slowing the Allied advance.
They represent some of the toughest resistance players will face during the campaign.

HISTORICAL STUDIES OVERVIEW

To bring Operation Husky to life with accuracy and depth, we conducted extensive research using period documents, military archives, and contemporary reports.

We studied every phase of the invasion, from the airborne assault at Ponte Grande to the final push toward Messina.

Our research highlighted how clearly the two Allied armies divided the island, each advancing along its own axis before eventually converging beneath the slopes of Mount Etna.

This directly shaped the campaign’s design: two separate fronts, each with its own pace and character, gradually coming together in the final missions where British and American operations intertwine.

We also discovered key differences in how the two forces experienced the campaign. The U.S. advance typically faced fewer obstacles and moved faster, while the British Eighth Army contended with tougher terrain, stronger resistance, and more complex challenges.
These insights helped shape the narrative tone, as well as the gameplay pacing and balance of the two paths.

Last but not least, along the way we uncovered lesser-known but fascinating events, which we integrated as optional objectives in scenarios. Players can choose whether, or how, to engage with them, adding extra layers of strategy and replayability.

These historical details add depth, variety, and dynamism to the campaign, while preserving historical authenticity and reinforcing player choice.

TWO ARMIES, ONE GOAL

At the heart of Allied Operations – Italy: Vol. 1 there is a newly formed army: the 15th Army Group.

Commanded by Sir Harold Alexander, the 15th Army Group was composed of two Allied armies advancing along separate axes.

The British Eighth Army, under General Bernard Montgomery, lands near Syracuse and pushes north along the eastern coast.

The U.S. Seventh Army, led by General George S. Patton, comes ashore further west around Gela, then advances through Palermo toward Messina.

Players command both forces across different scenarios, experiencing the contrast between British methodical planning and American operational boldness.

Different methods and different ways of thinking about how the war should be fought. Despite their differences and the bickering, they shared the same goal: freeing Sicily from the Axis.

Along the way, you will face Italian coastal defenses, and seasoned formations from the German Fallschirmjäger and Hermann Göring divisions, each introducing distinct tactical challenges.

This dual structure lies at the core of the DLC’s design: two parallel campaigns that gradually converge into a single, climactic conclusion.

Panzer Corps 2 joins Slitherine 25th Anniversary celebration

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of Slitherine. To celebrate, we are pleased to announce the release of two free fictional scenarios:

Epsom Rising
Liberation of Milan

The Epsom free scenario takes you to a completely fictional 1945, where the German invasion of Britain has dragged on for years, and they have enlisted help from their Vichy French allies for one more push on London.

This is one of our very special Slitherine anniversary scenarios, and you’ll get a chance to see some special heroes based on real Slitherine staff, and get a first look at several of the brand new Slitherine camos and Slitherine insignias we’re adding to the game.

The Milan scenario is another one of our special Slitherine scenarios, this time a fictional battle based on the real events of the liberation of Milan in the Spring of 1945. This scenario features some more Slitherine staff from their Milan division and very dense urban battling. Watch your prestige here, the resources are very tight and every turn counts to freeing Milan from the grip of German troops and their Italian collaborators.

Keeping the tradition

Lastly, as we traditionally do for the Winter holiday season, and to thank our players for being the beating heart of Panzer Corps for over 14 years, another free scenario has been added: Operation Wittgenstein.

This scenario explores a different timeline from our own, in which the Allied powers decide to go ahead with Operation Unthinkable and launch a preemptive strike on the Soviet-occupied sector of Germany. Making rapid advances in the first week of the offensive, the Western Allies have managed to achieve total air superiority and nearly encircle the city of Dresden.

The outcome of the whole operation will be decided on the Elbe River. However, the Soviets have no intention of giving up their hard-fought conquests without a struggle. With reinforcements pouring in from other sectors, the Soviets prepare to launch a major counterattack. Take control of the Red Army, halt the Allied offensive, and unleash a red tide on the Western backstabbers.

Editor update

As a very special improvement, we have something that has been on the agenda since launch dayone: We finally have updated the arsenal of thousands of unit previews in the editor from their ancient legacy Panzer Corps icons to brand new Panzer Corps 2 icons.

While we honor the legacy of our original Panzer Corps art and graphics, as Panzer Corps 2 has continued to grow with new unit additions to the game, the editor has become less and less accurate, as new units have debuted such as the E-100, T-44, Bf-109Z, and many other such new units had no OG Panzer Corps equivalent.

With this major update, the editor now better represents exactly what unit is being placed on the battlefield, a huge boon for both our official content designers as well as any enterprising modders out there making their own scenario content too.

We’ve gone all in with a new DLC campaign, free solo scenarios, and are proud to announce we’ll have even more content coming as part of Slitherine’s 25th Anniversary celebrations.

As with Ghost Division before, we’re once again very pleased and humbled by the positive engagement we’ve received from the 1st Guards announcement. So thank you to all our players for making up this awesome Panzer Corps community that has lasted for more than a decade.

Now then, on to the first content preview, our 1st Guards Developer Diary!

As 1st Guards moves towards its November launch date, we wanted to share some of our insider throughts on the content, while giving our players a preview of the content they can expect from this latest DLC campaign for Panzer Corps 2.

Doubling Down

With the commercial and critical success of Ghost Division, we really felt like Panzer Corps 2 found a solid formula that players really responded positively to: much stronger content-focused campaigns at competitive pricing.

So if you were a fan of Ghost Division and the classic strategy gameplay that defines Panzer Corps, 1st Guards is all of that ramped up even higher.

We’re cutting the fat and dropping you right into some impressively large battles, with well above average slot deployment limits. As early as the second scenario, there are huge deployment zones available, especially for those players who prefer managing large amounts of forces instead of fewer high overstrength units.

And once the Axis invasion of the USSR begins with Operation Barbarossa, your deployment options and limits will only continue to expand as you experience the Soviet Guards’ journey from the desperate battles of 1941 to the triumphant storming of Germany in 1945:

This theme of large deployment zones, and also having multiple such zones, is a theme you will see consistently throughout this campaign, to provide players with maximum flexibility and choice on how to tackle each battle.

For a prime example from the middle of the campaign, we can look at the Citadel Sortie scenario:

Your main objectives to win the scenario, marked with gold dots and red arrows, are due west.

The bonus objective to earn large sums of prestige to buy and repair your units, are typically scattered around the maps.

But your special bonus objective, the one that will reward special and prototype equipment rewards, is marked in red dots and black arrows.

So as you can see this, is an excellent example of the freedom of choice you’ll have to exercise when tackling such a scenario. Do you split your forces and approach all objectives simultaneously? Do you focus on one objective at a time? The decisions are yours, but be warned that serious challenges await, and spreading your quantitatively superior forces too thin against the qualitive nature of some of the mightiest German forces could lead to disasterous results!

History First

Again as with Ghost Division, our continued focus with the Elite series is to take a History First approach. This means there won’t be any fictional scenarios, or what if battles like something out of Operation Unthinkable. If you’re a fan of that content though... well we just might have you covered in other ways, so stay tuned for that.

But for 1st Guards, the spotlight falls on the real actions that the guards spearheaded; from the encirclement at Stalingrad, to the battles of Kursk, and beyond.

Our goal is to inform players of this history, not as a passive observer, but as participants in command of battles that characterized the most colossal struggle of the 20th century.

Based on some of your Ghost Division feedback, we also made the decision to also cut out fictional characters from the Elite series. While amalgamous characters are very helpful narrative devices to help players establish wider context to the battles they are engaging in, there is no shortage of real heroes that participated in World War II, so we’re going to try and shift to more letting real history just speak for itself.

The Red Army is especially unique for World War II, as more than any other nation it featured women in combat roles, from snipers to tank commanders to pilots. The real story of Mariya Oktyabrskaya is incredible, and actually really heartbreaking. She lost her soldier husband during the initial Barbarossa invasion, and then went on to sell of her possessions to raise money to fund the production of a T-34 tank, which she was then allowed to drive into battle with the Guards Tank Corps! That’s definitely a story worth retelling.

The Art of 1st Guards

Our awesome 1st Guards artworks have once again come from the efforts of artist Adrián Rodríguez, and we hope you enjoy them as enhancements to the written descriptions of the battles of our 1st Guards DLC.

While I’ve personally been utilizing a lot of generative AI features on my own, we continue our pledge to keep generative AI assets and writing out of all official Panzer Corps 2 products. Some of us have been with Panzer Corps as a series for almost 15 years now, and we’ve gotten this far without generative AI. Perhaps some day for some future project, but not this day.

It is fun though, and quite satisfying, to get results like this back. Panzer Corps definitely has a very unique feeling to a lot of its elements such as the writing, and it shows.

Special announcement today! The Panzer Corps 2 Elite DLC continues with its second installment: a Soviet campaign titled 1st Guards!

As with the Ghost Division before, the focus once again falls on following the battles of the very best a nation involved in the Second World War had to offer, and for the Motherland, this means the Soviet Guards!

The continued Promise

With the glowing reception and success of Elite – Ghost Division, and while larger mega campaigns continue their production, we’re eager to fulfill the ideal of the Elite series to bring each major nation its own Panzer Corps 2 campaign. And who better to represent the soldiers of the USSR in their debut campaign than the 1st Guards?

As before, the Elite series is also resolved to its commitment to fight against rising inflation, and will once again release at the 4.99 USD price point. We were extremely pleased with the player rececption from Ghost Division, and see no good reason to arbitrarily raise this series’s price point.

Because in the end, that is what really matters, that we’re making great content that our players are excited to enjoy at fair exchange.

To uphold those values, we’ve got a great campaign lined up, filled with awesome battles of epic size. Elite – 1st Guards is stuffed full of key battles ranging from 1937 all the way to 1945, and you’ll be deploying almost twice as many CORE units to battle over the previous Ghost Division campaign.

The 1st Guards

When Operation Barbarossa was launched in June of 1941, there was no such thing as a ‘Guards’ unit. By the time World War II ended in 1945, over 200 formations carried the venerated title of ‘Guards’; from Guards Rifle Divisions to Guards Tank or Guards Mechanized Divisions to even Aviation Regiments and entire Guards Armies.

Upcoming Holiday 2025 Update

As we approach the Holiday Season and 2025 draws to a close, we have one more tradition we’d like to uphold. Alongside the Soviet Elite campaign, we’re aiming to deploy additional Solo Scenario content that will be patched to the base game of Panzer Corps 2 that will be free for all owners of the game to enjoy, without any DLC requirements.

This tradition of free content during the holidays has been a theme for the last few years, and one we think is worth continuing as a way to continue to show our ongoing appreciation for the amazing community that continues to support Panzer Corps 2. Thanks to you, our community, once again for keeping the Panzer Corps series going after all this time, we’ll have more information about the free solo scenario content soon!

Welcome to the third and final Dev Diary for Panzer Corps 2: Frontlines - Westwall. As announced previously, this part is all about specific gameplay elements of this DLC and visual additions. So let's go right into it.

Objectives: Do's and a few Don'ts

Usually mission objectives are all about things you need to do to win.

This time there are a few exceptions from that rule: since the intro map is a recon mission, it is all about mobility. You don’t have to hold objective hexes – you just need to take them once to scout the location, and can abandon them afterwards.

Later, when you close in on Aachen, you also get told what you have to avoid, and this time it’s not a request. The reason for this is explained in the game of course.

One map has an optional objective to capture German supply dumps, and the briefing explains how it can be achieved. The same method can be used to take most depots you encounter in this DLC. But in rare cases certain triggers might lead to unexpected results.

Other battles include objectives you have to complete earlier than the rest. Falling those may cost you a hefty bonus in the best case – in the worst you could lose your command when your superiors run out of patience.

These goals are not extremely difficult to achieve, but require you to stay focussed.

Prestige: Liberation vs. Occupation

Several maps play either on German-occupied territory, or in border regions. This has a direct impact on the way prestige can be earned by taking various locations.

Bigger rewards are always tied to objectives, or key locations like airfields and supply hexes. But non-objective towns and villages outside Germany.give a small one-time prestige bonus when you liberate them. Once you are across the border, inside Germany, no such reward is given.

And not only that – when the Allies are battling to reopen the vital port Antwerp your progress in nearby North Brabant is directly affecting prestige and core slots at your disposal in the final stage of the campaign.

Events: Not written off

This DLC includes a variety of scripted triggers and events, both to add flavor and to impact gameplay.

We highlight the state of the German border defenses, especially during the intro mission, warn about significant enemy reactions in a few battles, inform about key developments elsewhere on the western front and more.

In a few battles you are presented with choices at the beginning. Some of them are easy decisions, for example when you get a chance to acquire cheaper veteran core units.

Other choices enable different approaches: do you call in Allied help when fighting in the Peel Marches, or do you get by with just a few core reinforcements instead? Later, do you opt to deploy a unique, hard-hitting, but low strength unit or do you prefer a few bonus core slots instead?

Visuals: The usual suspects

Frontlines - Westwall includes three new officer portraits to select from at the start of the campaign. Since it has become quasi-standard in recent DLCs each new battle gets introduced with a specific map before the actual briefing begins.

Those who played Bulge know the briefing character already. Internally we toyed with the name Deckard back then, but the basic idea of both Bulge and Westwall is that everyone knows each other at least since D-Day, or even longer. So he never gets explicitly introduced as it would feel odd that late.

You get to see him in various new environments now. We added a new post-battle state where he looks a tad battered, but also more relaxed with straps open, smoking a cigarette. This look is mostly used in debriefings, but may also pop up in selected events.

New Units I: On the Line

As the eponymous Westwall plays a central role in this DLC several additions were made to represent those German border fortifications in greater detail:

Various larger forts were built in selected locations along the Siegfried Line, but most often the Allies had to deal with smaller pillboxes, and sometimes with lots of them.

So we included a new pillbox unit. Unlike bigger bunkers they’re not overly strong on their own, but as part of a defensive network with mines, support units or even mobile reserves as backup they can keep you quite busy.

It’s worth noting that certain structures accept skins now, including those pillboxes, and modders can adjust their directions in the editor.

Key areas were also protected by so-called Dragon’s Teeth, a widely used form of anti-tank obstacle, which we included as well. These obstacles do not shoot back, but destroying them can be time-consuming.

It’s best to find gaps or other weak spots to plow on, although these do not always look as peaceful as in the pic above.

New Units II: Field Armor…

US tank crews often used everything they could get their hands on to increase protection, so many Shermans were soon covered with additional sandbags, track segments, wood or even selfmade side skirts.

Such modifications, known as field armor, farmer armor, or even hillbilly armor became a common sight both in the Pacific Theater and in Europe.

While we cannot include every possible modification ever made, we added one modified variant for some of the main late-war versions. These modifications don’t turn regular Shermans into super units, but offer slightly better defense stats for a minor price hike.

Field-armored tanks also have better unit-traits than their unmodified counterparts. This is a gameplay decision to make them more valuable, built on the idea that their crews excel in a certain area.

Modified Shermans count as limited equipment. A handful are added regularly as the campaign progresses, and objective rewards increase their overall number further.

Players can field and sustain a few units equipped with them, but may have to deploy vanilla tanks again if they take too many losses. This goes especially for the later, long-barrelled versions, while field-armor for the M4A1 and A3 tanks is available earlier, and in larger numbers.

New Units III: …and all the rest

Another unique addition to the US roster is the Dodge WC63. Derived from the similar, but lighter Dodge 4x4 series it represents a variety of enlarged Dodge 6x6 trucks.

The new transport is cheaper than the Studebaker, has all terrain movement, and even an MG. But it can only carry vanilla infantry, paras and rangers, not engineers or heavy infantry, and it cannot tow all guns.

Last but not least a few more variants of known US warplanes are available now, with slightly improved stats. This includes a specific, armed version of the Grasshopper recon plane which appears as a specific aux unit first. Later in the campaign you receive a unique gift unit of this type.

On top of that shiny new skins made for specific USAAF aircraft have been added to the game, so the number of available, historic late-war skins has increased once again…

Conclusion

And so this third and last Dev Diary for this DLC comes to an end. Are you ready to punch through the Siegfried Line?

We retraced the history of Panzer Corps and all the series that contributed to making it the fantastic franchise it is today, such as Axis Operation, Frontlines, Elite and more.

In particular, we had an in-depth live chat with Volcanite Games, discussing one of the upcoming Allied multi-linked campaigns: the invasion of Italy by the Allied forces.

"As we mark this 14th Anniversary of Panzer Corps releasing in 2011, I thought I’d see if I could define what Panzer Corps Day is, and why we go out of our way to mark this particular day.

There are just so many numbers involved after all that time. Hundreds of scenarios created, tens of thousands of hours of work from across our small team, more than one hundred thousand unique players who have logged multi-millions of hours spent playing our game…

I never would have dreamed about those kinds of numbers when I was BETA testing the original Panzer Corps back in 2010 and just beginning to learn how to make Panzer Corps content with the original Grand Campaign, and even today 14 years later those numbers are still difficult to comprehend.

But it’s those numbers that we are here to celebrate. It’s been an unbelievable journey for those of us involved with Panzer Corps, and it’s incredible to think that so many players have been along with us through all these years. This day is as much our developers’ day to celebrate as it is a celebration of our player community. Without all of your continued support and interest for over a decade now, our game would be long forgotten and abandoned. It is thanks to you that this game will probably represent my life’s work, as I realize there’s probably no bigger or longer running project I’ll embark on like I have with Panzer Corps.

Nothing has driven that home like the realization that Panzer Corps is approaching a generational title, as some of our potential newest campaign designers learning the trade are less than half my age. It’s endearing to know that our work to translate the history of the World War II into our game continues to inspire and educate the next generation of people, just as I remember experiencing WWII gaming through the original Panzer General that I was playing way back in the 90s.

Through our exploration and celebration of historical gaming, we have in our own way joined that history as we continue to retell these stories through media and games that now inspire the interest of the next generation of humanity.

And lastly, here’s to all of the friends and family, who after all of these years, are no longer with us. May you never be gone, as long as you are remembered.

In addition, we're happy to come out with two new free scenarios as a symbol of gratitude for the continued support of our players. But before you jump into the game, here’s a brief preview into some of the unique gameplay gimmicks each scenario offers:

NERETVA

The first new scenario explores the famous Yugoslav Partisans as a playable faction and covers the Battle of Neretva River. The year is 1943, and the Axis occupation of Yugoslavia enters its darkest hour as recent Axis offensives have managed to surround the Partisans in a death trap with their backs to the Neretva River.

Facing total annihilation and relentless assaults from all sides, your only option will be to lead a desperate breakout attempt by crossing the Neretva River in a bid to link up with friendly forces in the mountains to the southeast. At the same time, the Axis and their collaborators will do everything in their power to thwart your escape.

TARGU FRUMOS

The second new scenario shifts the focus over to Romania and the Second Battle of Targu Frumos. As the Red Army threatens to isolate Iasi by targeting the crucial railway hub of Targu Frumos to the west of the city, you will get to command the determined Romanian resistance to the Soviet invasion of their country.

However, you will not stand alone against the Soviet war machine; the Germans have sent an elite tank formation to reinforce the beleaguered Romanians. Your Romanian force will have to coordinate with German armor to effectively counter the endless Soviet assaults.

Welcome to the second Dev Diary for Panzer Corps 2: Frontlines - Westwall. This part is all about campaign details: how long is the campaign, and what are the key battles included in this DLC?

To answer the first question right away – the DLC includes 14 scenarios in a linear campaign. But before we go more into the details, let’s recap the situation you find yourselves in at the start…

Summertime, and the livin' is easy…

It’s summer 1944. The Wehrmacht has suffered heavy defeats both on the Eastern Front, and in the West. Entire formations have been destroyed or suffered losses so heavy that they had to be rebuilt completely.

Paris was liberated in August, and during the next weeks Allied forces were racing through France and the Low Countries towards Germany, meeting little opposition.

Optimism was running high in Allied circles these days. Ambitious plans for daring operations were brought up, to swiftly breach the Siegfried Line, or to get over the Rhine quickly after securing key bridges in a massive airborne operation. Could it all be over soon?

Panzer Corps 2: Frontlines - Westwall begins when this - for the Allies easier - period slowly comes to an end.

Where to start?

But during the first battles in this campaign the Wehrmacht is still battered from heavy fighting in France before, so you encounter weaker opposition initially.

The US First Army’s V Corps is the first American formation which hits the German border, and sends a small recon force into the later infamous Schnee Eifel east of St. Vith. This reconnaissance in force mission is the intro of the campaign.

As it is meant to be an easier opener again we just throw you in here with a limited force of mechanized cavalry you cannot change initially. But this setup provides you with a couple of veteran units, and a few heroes.

Don’t worry, you can change everything to your liking from the next mission onwards. The intro does not require you to hold large areas, you just need to probe the state of the German border defenses.

Afterwards V Corps attempts the first determined drive into Germany, towards the city of Bitburg.

This time the Germans react in a way that becomes a common sight late in the war – by throwing small, ad hoc battle groups of armor and infantry at you, which however can be a serious headache if you underestimate them.

Heating up

With the third battle we enter one of the hotspots of this campaign – the area between Maastricht in the Netherlands and the city of Aachen on the German side, which is covered by two separate bands of the Westwall.

Several maps deal with various US formations approaching, encircling, and finally taking Aachen. When these advances are delayed in late September due to supply problems and intensifying opposition, we spend some time elsewhere.

However, even later, after the city has fallen, we return to this area as continued heavy fighting in the nearby Huertgen Forest requires your attention, and Allied forces aim to reach the Roer River.

The supply issues mentioned above are only sufficiently dealt with after the port of Antwerp is reopened. This is primarily an Allied matter, especially for Canadian forces, so not depicted here.

Neither is Operation Market Garden, the large British-led airborne assault to bypass the Siegfried Line by swiftly taking key bridges over the Rhine.

Still those Allied operations hugely impacted US progress along the Siegfried Line both in terms of supply and troop deployments.

As a result some US forces were fighting under British command in the Low Countries, so we included actions in support of the Battle of the Scheldt, and in the so-called Peel Marches near the German border.

Some little side-notes at this point: as screenshots indicate, units are using historical names on a bigger scale than they did in Bulge. We do not aim to do this for every unit, but key formations, German and Allied, will often show correct names.

In rare cases the Germans are still using Beutewaffen, which display their correct Wehrmacht designations as custom names in this DLC.

Some German supply dumps are placed on a few maps, and almost all of them can be captured for bonus prestige and enemy equipment. They are not meant to provide tons of German hardware, but taking a number of them may allow you to field full units at some point.

Things go...south?

Aside from the Aachen sector the second hotspot of this DLC is the Lorraine Campaign fought by the US Third Army and Free French forces, in the southern part of the front.

Wait...Lorraine? Isn’t this about the Siegfried Line? History buffs surely are aware of it – the Lorraine Campaign was not treated as a separate effort in 1944, in fact the whole term was only created and popularized after the war.

So when the US advance on Aachen is paused we make the first excursion to this side of the war: in the Battle of Arracourt US forces have to defeat superior German armor. In November 1944 we return to Lorraine in the Battle of Metz and subsequent US advances.

The city, guarded by a ring of old, but massive fortifications, blocks access to the German border in the Saar region, where the player finally hits the Siegfried Line again at the end of this campaign.

Let’s sum up

Since the German side struggles to regain strength during the early battles of this campaign the overall increase in difficulty is more gradual.

In Bulge, some of the most intense German attacks happened soon after the intro mission, when the Ardennenoffensive was in full swing. In this DLC there is no comparable onslaught, and most battles have the player on the offensive instead.

Still, there are two outright defensive missions, and some heavy German counter attacks in various battles.

In several cases, but surely not always, players have to deal with various types of fortifications. Usually this is only happening in a part of any given map, while other parts allow for and even require armored advances.

However, there is certainly one battle where infantry takes the lead, and armor plays only a secondary role.

Conclusion
