Crash fixes:
Excess .dll files that may have caused problems on some computers were removed. (All players who manually deleted DLLs from the game installation should make sure to let steam verify their installation, to restore full functionality and performance optimizations of the game)
Player CPUs capabilities were not checked correctly for some optimizations, causing them to execute unavailable instructions (AVX, AVX2, SSE4).
Fixed error when steam player avatar images could not be loaded, which potentially caused "fatal loading errors" when entering the game.
Gameplay fix:
Fixed an error where VAL’s voice got stuck in an endless loop after players started a ‘quick match’ in multiplayer mode.

Spacebase Startopia out now
Kalypso Media and Realmforge Studios have today announced that space station management sim Spacebase Startopia has completed its final landing checks and successfully touched down on Windows-PC/Linux/Mac, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One consoles. The game will support Smart Delivery for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One Consoles, while the Nintendo Switch™ version will follow later in the year.
To celebrate the explosion-less journey from beta to launch, fans can now check out a series of strategy guides aimed at helping players familiarise themselves with their new donut-shaped home and get a leg-up with their duties as Commander. Episode 1 covers the base’s three unique decks, on which players can host their visitors and residents as well as construct an assortment of buildings and galactic gadgetry; Episode 2 introduces the ‘Fuzzies’ – cute, assistant robots who will muck-in with the less glamorous jobs around the station; Episode 3 focuses on ensuring the player’s communication skills (both verbal and telepathic) are up to snuff; and Episode 4 goes over food, berths and medical bays.
The strategy guide series is ongoing, with the first 4 episodes available now:

Spacebase Startopia sells players the galactic dream: managing their very own donut-shaped space station. Overseen and assisted (when she feels like it) by the base’s sarcastic on-board AI, players will play Commander to their floating home-away-from-home on the station’s three unique decks with a variety of gadgetry while tending to the wants and needs of a diverse array of vacationing extra-terrestrial lifeforms. In multiplayer, up to 4 players can work together to build the galaxy’s greatest getaway, or seek oblivion unto their rivals with daring feats of economic sabotage.

Nostalgia is a dangerous beast, as I'm sure you all know already. Like a lot of people, I have almost pathologically fond memories of the original Startopia, a management sim about running a donut-shaped space station (so in this case, the nostalgia beast is some kind of tentacled monster that lives in a space bin and eats robots). Any reboot, sequel or remake of Startopia has a lot of built-in good will, but also a lot of rose-tinted expectations to meet.
Spacebase Startopia is not technically a sequel to - or indeed a remaster or remake of - the Startopia of 2001, and I'm not entirely sure what the deal is with the IP or how anyone is getting away with this. Spacebase Startopia might be thought of as three small aliens stacked in a Startopia coat, I suppose? Or, to put it another way: it's a fun strategy-management game set in space, with jokes and fun scenarios and all that good stuff. It's sort of what you remember Startopia being like to play if you think of it now. But not exactly.
Over the next few days, both Spacebase Startopia and Evil Genius 2: World Domination arrive. The first is a spiritual successor to Startopia, the 2001 management sim about looking after space stations for alien travellers. The second is a sequel to 2004's Evil Genius, another man
Over the next few days, both Spacebase Startopia and Evil Genius 2: World Domination arrive. The first is a spiritual successor to Startopia, the 2001 management sim about looking after space stations for alien travellers. The second is a sequel to 2004's Evil Genius, another management sim where you get to play a Bond-esque villain taking over the world. It's a brilliant coincidence these games have bagged themselves release dates within a week of each other, and speaks to the resurgence of management games over the last couple of years.
To find out a little more about this trend, I wrangled the developers from both Rebellion and Realmforge Studios into a big voice call to ask them, and find out what it's like to revive a popular sim from the noughties.
