So, if you've been following the game these last few months, you may have noticed that we haven't been anywhere near as active as we have been in the past, and I wanted to explain a bit of why that is and what's goin on.
Oi, Innkeep! is our first ever real attempt at making a video game ourselves. Having never done this before, there's been a butt load of stuff that has come up along the way that we just never expected, from plenty of game breaking bugs to longer than expected turnaround times to get features in.
The real issue is that we're just two people. We don't have a massive team behind us. Apart from the music, we do everything ourselves.
After almost three years of working on Oi,Innkeep, we've hit the point where we just need to make money to keep going. Neither Rich or I have had any money coming in this entire time, and have had to make some pretty big sacrifices just to keep it going this long. But, with both of us over 30 now, we need to start thinking a bit ahead and addressing the money issue.
So, you may have already guessed where this is going, but we don't really have a choice but to put Oi, Innkeep aside for now while we both try and get some sort of work, and try to make some money.
This doesn't mean we're just giving up on Oi, Innkeep. We've both put too many years into this to do that, but we just don't have a choice at the moment. With a bit of luck, we'll have pulled enough money together in a couple of months to work on it again and finally bring it out, but who knows what will happen. We're not going to bullshit and make any promises we might not be able to keep.
We're sorry that we haven't been able to deliver on what we've promised so far, guys.

Hi everyone!
We recently announced Oi, Innkeep! Chronicles!
Chronicles is a serialized, narrative-driven set of short, top-down adventure games that acts as a prequel to Oi, Innkeep!
The first episode will be free and out soon, and the second episode is almost complete. All future episodes will be delivered as DLC and won't cost much at all.
We sort of want this to be almost like an episodic tv show, something that we can release a new episode of once or twice a month.

Other than Chronicles! we're still working on getting the main game ready for Early Access, which shouldn't be too long. it's all coming together nicely.

Hi guys and welcome to another dev log for Oi, Innkeep!
For this dev log, we're going to go over a few little things that we've changed + talk abut some systems and stuff we've got planned.
First off, how we've changed the cooking process: it used to be that you just had to take an ingredient to a cooking station (pot or oven), but we wanted to expand that out a bit more. So, we changed it so if you want to make a carrot soup for example, you first have to go to a work bench, place a carrot down and then grab a cleaver and hit the carrot a set number of times. Once you've chopped it enough, the carrot or whatever ingredient you have there, will turn into a chopped version of that ingredient. You then take that ingredient and add it to the pot or oven.
Here's a quick look of the new system in action:
This is going to add a fair bit of depth to the cooking system, which we felt it was sorely lacking. Also, there will probably be other kitchen items you'll have to use. Some possibilities include: rolling pins, beaters, etc
Next up, plants:
We've shown plants before I think, how you have to water them or they'll die over time. One thing we're wanting to do here that is new is that we want to make it so you actually buy a vase separate from a plant. You then get a seed and place it in the vase and it'll grow. It'll take some work on our part to ensure that all plants fit all vase sizes, but we'll hopefully figure it out.
Here's a new vase/plant combo we have made recently, which is part of the ocean-themed kit we're making:
We're making plenty of themed items that you can decorate your inn with. These items come from different, related characters. For example, Hunting Harry will provide animal mounts and rugs; Katrina, a local witch and cat-lady will provide witch and cat themed items, Joshua the Executioner will provide dungeon/torture themed stuff, etc.
As well as selling you fish, Cliffy the fisherman will sell you some ocean themed stuff such as these chandeliers, decorative anchors and ocean themed pots:
I think that'll do it for now. Expect plenty more updates now as we get closer and closer to our Early Access release!

So, it's been over two months since the last dev log and we thought we better give you guys an update.
Rest assured, we're still working non-stop on Oi, Innkeep! and we're sorry for the lack of communication lately.
We finished up the tutorial section of the game, but we also went through some design revision and decided our plan going forward for release, which is what this dev log is mostly going to be about.
Originally, we didn't want to do Early Access. We thought we'd be able to just get everything we have planned out in one release, but we soon realized that just wasn't going to happen, not with a 2-man team and zero funding.
So, now we're thinking that in early 2019 we're going to release Oi, Innkeep! into Early Access on Steam.
We plan to launch the core of the game. From there we can build on it and release new content over time. Here's a rough idea of what systems and activities we'd likely launch with:

It feels like forever since the last dev log. We've been busy putting together a tutorial which has really been bringing a lot of Oi, Innkeep's different core systems together.
For today though, I'm going to give you guys a look at another character that you'll be able to befriend in Oi, Innkeep!
This week's character is. . .
Sola is a shy local witch who scares easily and isn't very good with people due to a spell that went horribly wrong left her with green-face.
She's into cauldrons and black cats, and she doesn't like loud noises or witch-hunts.
We're wrapping up the tutorial. It shouldn't be too long!
We're also putting in some weather stuff and refining how time works as well. More on this stuff soon.

For the time being, we're going to continue showing off some of the NPCs you'll be meeting in Oi, Innkeep! These characters all have jobs, likes, dislikes, traits, unique animations, favorite foods, schedules and unique storylines for you to experience.
This week's character is. . .
Joshua is the local executioner. There's nothing he loves more than getting the crowd riled up for a good ol' execution. Whether it's a beheading, disembowlment, hand removal, boiling alive, etc. Joshua has probably done it to someone who crossed the law.

Hi everyone and welcome to the 7th dev log for Oi, Innkeep!
We've been working on the art and writing for a lot of the characters you'll be getting to know in Oi, Innkeep! So, we'll probably start showing them off over the next couple of dev logs.
We'll mostly be showing art, as we don't want to reveal too much about each character's story because we want you guys to experience all that for yourself. But, keep in mind that NPCs will have multiple storylines that you'll be able to progress through, with unique gameplay features and unlockables.
So, anyway, let's get started with. . .
Pierre is a painter from a far away land, where they speak like this: "Oh, why hello. You are ze Innkeep here, no? Ze name’s Pierre Von Zart. I am, how you say? A painter, yes?"

From Pierre you'll be able to buy new paintings do decorate your inn with.

Hi everyone and welcome to the 6th dev log for Oi, Innkeep!
This is going to be a fairly short one just going over some of the stuff we've been doing this week with Oi, Innkeep!
We made it so things can now catch fire. There's a few different ways this can happen. If you leave things too close to the fireplace, they will start smoking and eventually start to burn.
We are probably going to make it so if you leave your oven/pot cooking for too long there's a chance it'll start a fire that can spread to nearby flammable objects.
You can put fires out with the watering can. Check it out below:
We've been polishing up the art a bit for the inn itself. This new one has curved ceilings and windows in both the walls and ceiling.
We're not sure if this will be the starting inn that you get access to. If anything it might be a bit smaller to begin with. We hope to make it so as you make more money, you can afford to renovate the inn into different shapes and layouts.
Oh, and that little bell in the second image rings every time someone enters. You can also ring it as well if you like.

Welcome to the 5th dev log for Oi, Innkeep!
For this one, I'm going to go over a few - but not all - of the things we are adding to Oi, Innkeep! that will help make the game more immersive.
You guys will have to eat and sleep. This isn't a hardcore survival game, but we want to include some light survival elements. You'll have to eat once a day and sleep between 6-8 hours to fully replenish your energy.
The lower your energy gets, the slower you will move. If your energy runs completely out, then you'll pass out and be forced to sleep, but when you wake up you'll be slower for the next few hours because you pushed yourself too hard.
Different food will refill your hunger at different rates and better, more expensive beds will allow you to sleep less while still fully replenishing all your energy.
We plan to add coffee at some point, which can be drunk to give you a bit of an energy boost.
Later on, we'll probably add sliders and options for all these player needs, so players who aren't into them can tweak them to get what they want out of Oi, Innkeep!
(Don't forget to make the bed!)
We're also thinking of adding bathing as well. So you can buy different baths, with more expensive ones giving you more energy when used. Some customers will also be more likely to leave you a bad review if your're dirty.
Speaking of dirty, customers who are dirty themselves have a chance to leave dirt marks around your inn, which you must clean up, and if you're dirty, then you'll be more likely to leave these marks yourself as well.
Cobwebs also form over time. You'll have to clean these as well.
We do have some cool and magical stuff planned for helping with cleaning, but we'll keep that a secret for now, I reckon.
So we already had wall sconces and chandeliers added, but now we've made it so you can place candles on tables as well. You can then lit, extinguish and remove them.
Customers aren't going to be happy if candles are not on their table and lit of an evening. As an alternative, we're probably going to make it so you can place little flowers there instead. So candles for night and flowers for day.
You can already grow your own crops, so we've made it so you can grow your own decorative plants as well.
Plants will wither and die if they're not watered regularly, so you have to fill up your water can from your farm's well and make sure they don't go thirsty.
Plants give your customers a happiness increase.
We're also probably going to make it so you buy and place a pot/vase down, and then buy different seeds. Then you plant the seed and water it to make it grow. That way, you'll be able to grow the plant/flower of your choice in the vase/pot of your choice.

Welcome to the 4th dev log for Oi, Innkeep! Today I'm going to show off the 'Magi-Tab', a magical device that handles all our UI, social mail system and other stuff. Read on!
The Magi-Tab is more than just a pause/settings menu. It's a magical tablet that helps you keep track of customers and manage your inn. Pressing TAB on the keyboard will take you to it's home screen, pictured below:
NOTE: All the images below are not final. We're still going to add stuff and pretty it up some more!
It should be familiar if you use any sort of modern smartphone. From the home menu, you can access different apps. There's more to come, but at the moment we have the following:

Welcome to the third dev log for Oi, Innkeep! Today we're going to look at what goes into our NPCs + provide an overview of how the game is shaping up.
We'll probably feature a few more of these NPCs, but for now, meet the fearsome, bearded warrior who hails from the lands to the distant north. His name is Ragnah Bad-Breath, but his boys call him "Ragz' for short.
(NOTE: The artwork for Ragz is not finished.)
Ragz is one of many unique NPCs that you'll meet in Oi, Innkeep! Most will have their own unique appearance and storylines that you will be able to progress through at your own pace. With Ragz, he came to these shores to do do what he loves best: raidin' and murderin', but things went south for him and his crew and they abandoned him here. It will be up to you to help him overcome his anger-management issues and fit in with society.
You progress through these storylines in different ways such as giving advice, providing certain foods, giving money or simply just listening to what NPCs have to say.
There are also special, unique rewards for going through different character storylines. For example, progress with Ragz long enough and maybe he'll ask you to sponser a raid back on his homeland or other places. If successful, he might bring back some items that you can use in your inn.
Here's some - but not all - of the northern themed items you can get:
Different characters will give different things for their storylines. Carpenter Kate will give you access to new furniture, Huntin' Harry will provide new mounted animals for your walls, Pierre the Painter will sell you new paintings to art the place up, etc.
Some characters will give decorative items, but others will provide new cooking recipes and other upgrades.
In addition to storylines, characters all have personality traits, occupations and shedules that define and bring them to life.
Occupations influence schedules. Blacksmith Barry and the Bennet triplets working at the mine might only come in of an evening after work. Ragz is unemployed, so he might drop in for a beer any time of the day.
Ragz has personality traits like Violent, Heavy-Drinker and Dancer. These make him more likely to start fights, drink lots of beer and bust a move. Meanwhile, the quiet, shy witch, Sola, is less likely to chat with others and is far too scared to dance.
All these different traits come into play when characters interact with each other as well as the player. Sola doesn't like violence, so if Ragz starts talking to her about it her opinion of him could decrease and she might walk away.
NPCs that chat about topics they both like will get an increase of their opinion of one another. Eventually, they may become friends and visit your inn together. With a little prodding from the player, some may even fall in love - or out of it.

Traits are dynamic, so maybe in time you'll be able to rid Ragz of his violent ways, or talk Sola into finally having enough courage to brave the dance floor.
There's more to it, but that's enough for now and we hope you like the idea of what we're cooking up!
Hi everyone. Welcome to the 2nd dev log for Oi, Innkeep!
Today I'm going to give a quick overview of how decorating works. At the bottom of this, there'll also be a quick summary of what state the game is currently in.
From here you can navigate different categories of decor to find what you want. You can highlight objects and sell them or send them to storage where you can get them back out later.
There's a heap of options, from different floors, wallpapers, paintings, banners, flags, decorative swords and shields, animal mounts, sconces, chandeliers, chairs, tables, and more!
If you're familiar with the building system from Fallout 4, then the way it works in Oi, Innkeep! is very similar.

Welcome to the first dev log for Oi, Innkeep!
I'm Hayden Zammit, one of the two developers that make up Bad Bandit Games along with Rich Sanders.
These dev logs are going to be a regular thing leading up to release and beyond, where we highlight different features of Oi, Innkeep! and provide status updates for you guys.
For this first one, I'm just going to give an overview of how cooking works as it's one of the main things you do in Oi, Innkeep!
Above you can see we have a pot and an oven. You can place these + other cooking-related workstations around wherever you like, each one allowing you to cook different meals depending on the ingredients you throw into them.
Here's some examples:
One mushroom into the oven will give you one baked mushroom.
One mushroom into the pot will give you one bowl of mushroom soup.
You put your ingredients in. Then set the work station to begin cooking.
You'll see a little meter pop up while the cooking is taking place. This shows you how much something has cooked. You have to come back and stop the cooking at the optimal time.
Keep in mind I've set it so it cooks faster here than it normally would just for the purpose of this dev log. Also, different meals will take different amounts of time to cook as well.
Another thing: you can mix and match ingredients, too. So, for example, one corn + one mushroom into the pot will give you one bowl of mushroom and corn soup.
So, yeah, you set something to start cooking and then you might go off and do some other things around the inn like wipe cobwebs, mix drinks, talk to customers, etc. and then come back when it's ready.
After that, you just go and deliver the food to the waiting customer or simply throw it up in the air like you just don't care. Whatever takes your fancy.
Well, that's a look at the basics of cooking. It's going to get more and more advanced as we flesh it out, but we hope you guys like what you see. If you have any questions please leave a comment below!
