As many of you probably know, the Jutsu Games team brings together a group of real-world map enthusiasts. We have been experimenting with using OpenStreetMap data in games for many years now, starting with 911 Operator, followed by 112 Operator, and now Infection Free Zone. All of these games allow players to play in their hometown or any other location of their choice, wherever it may be. Recently, we came up with an idea: it would be really cool if there were a “Real Maps” tag on Steam, showcasing all the games that make it possible to play in real-world locations. Those games could take place in a single location, like New York or Barcelona, or allow players to play on different maps, like our games. As long as at least a part of the playable map is close to its real counterpart, the tag should fit.New Tags on Steam
What’s interesting is that new tags on Steam appear in a rather organic fashion. We contacted Steam about this idea, and they let us know that they rarely add new tags on their own. Steam Support suggested that instead, players should add a new tag themselves. If enough players do so, the tag can eventually become official once it reaches a certain level of popularity. And this is where we want to ask for your help!Real Maps Tag
If you would like to help us with promoting the Real Maps tag, here is a short instruction regarding what to do in order to add a Custom Tag on Steam: 1. Visit the game where you want to add a new Tag, in our case, 112 Operator: https://store.steampowered.com/app/793460/112_Operator/. 2. Click on the "+" button next to the existing tags in the top-right corner of the game's Steam Page:
3. Type "Real Maps" and click the "Add" button.
4. That's all! The whole operation shouldn't take more than 2 minutes.
If you enjoy games with real maps as much as we do, we would really appreciate your support in this matter. Of course, we also want to encourage you to add this tag to other games that use real-world maps. It would be great to have an easy way to discover new games under this tag officially one day. Let’s see what we can achieve together!
