Shapelab Max 2026 Small Update

We just released a small update that you can try out right now! Here is a quick look at the latest improvements and fixes:
Non-uniform scaling in hierarchy
Child objects of a non-uniformly scaled object now get the resulting shear baked in their geometry instead of resetting.
Pivot positions are preserved.
Child object which do not support n-u scale keep their original scale but still move along the scaling direction.
Mask smoothing slider
Allows to control the amount of smoothing applied to the edges of the masked area when performing mask-related operations like copy, cut, delete or extrude.
The new slider is available in the Mesh Operation’s tab of the contextual menu.
Other Fixes
Fixed occasional UI jittering happening on desktop when navigating the scene.
Absolute resolution slider does no longer get reset after switching to a relative resolution tool.
Fixed Create Object tool panel “Place object at” buttons spawning Polymesh objects when Voxel is selected.
In VR, the context menu window no longer “jumps” when switching tab (top-left corner stays fixed).
Fixed Gizmo widget handles sometimes staying visible when no object is selected.
Updated some special characters that did not render correctly in French and German localization

The summer heat is officially here, but the good news is now you have an excuse to stay in, as we just released the latest Shapelab Max update! Grab your headset, and lose yourself in a brand-new VR sculpting session while you hide from the sun!
We’ve packed this major release with several new features and improvements designed to make your creative process smoother and faster.
Key Feature Highlights:
New Tool Preset System: A new preset system lets you save, manage, and apply your own tool configurations. The preset selector is available from the settings panel of any tool that supports presets.
Exoside Quad Remesh Integration: For users with an active Exoside “ALL Software” quad remesher license, Exoside's quad remesh is now available directly from the context menu's Quad Remesh tab.
Overhauled Brush Alphas: The brush alpha pattern library has been reworked for easier management and classification. Photoshop (.psd) files can now be imported as images. .psd, .jpg, and .jpeg can now all be used for brush alpha pattern, previously limited to .png only.
User Templates & Stamps (VR): User Stamps and Templates can now be reoriented directly from their tool panels, using a new Reorient button next to “Rename.” The button acts as a toggle (pressing it again applies the modification) and can also be applied or cancelled via controller button overrides.
Default Scene / startup file: The current scene (including tool settings and environment) can now be saved as a default startup file that loads automatically on app start and when creating a new document, similar to Blender.
Faster Project File Loading: Load times for .sl3d files have been significantly reduced, with the biggest improvements on scenes containing many separate objects.
Extrude Masked: The Merge and Split context menu tab has been reworked to add an Extrude Mesh section.

Removed rule which was preventing the deletion of some empty objects after import.
Fixed an issue where sliders in the Parametric Shape panel (Create Object and Stamp tools) were interactable outside the scroll area.
Added a missing checkbox in the Custom Environment Creation panel under the “Enable direct light” section.
Resolved a bug that prevented newly created Templates from being renamed.

This update introduces several key improvements designed to make your sculpting experience smoother, faster, and more intuitive in VR and on Desktop.
New Features & Improvements
Here is a closer look at what’s new in the Spring Update:
World Floating Windows (Document Outline, Context Menu): we’ve introduced a unified window system for all world-space floating panels, bringing consistent visuals and interactions across features
Always Visible Document Outline (VR Only): the Document Outline can now be undocked from the controller and used as a floating window in VR.
Virtualized Lists & File Browser Improvements: we’ve optimized lists to improve performance primarily in the Document Outline and File Browser
Isolation and Show-Hide Rework: We’ve reworked how Show/Hide and Isolation behave to make object visibility more flexible, predictable, and easier to control.
Brush Resolution Settings: we’ve improved the brush resolution UI and behavior for more consistent and flexible control.
Selection Highlights: we’ve reworked the highlight shader and colours, especially for scene mode selection. It aims at making the whole scene reading and management easier in VR

We've just released a small update on Steam, with the following improvements:
Create Tool and Stamp Tool UI Cleanup + New Minor Feature
Implemented a scroll view for a cleaner and more compact UI.
Create Tool: Moved the “Polymesh” vs “Voxel” deployment options to a new section called Modes. The Inherit PBR Material Settings toggle button has also been relocated there.
Create Tool: Added a new Reset Size button that resets the deployable object’s size to 1:1 before deployment.
Voxel Engine Undo/Redo Memory Fix
Fixed an issue where voxel tools did not properly free up undo/redo memory space.
Security Update
Applied a Unity patch addressing the issue detailed in the following link.

Hidden State Storage: The show/hide state of objects (also known as layers) is now saved within the SL3D project file format.
Selection Groups: Selection groups are now preserved in the SL3D project file format.
Fixes and Improvements

Model Importer Enhancements: The 3D model importer now filters out incompatible entities, ensuring only manageable and usable assets are loaded into Shapelab.
Exporter Adjustment: The 3D model exporter no longer attempts to fix degenerate triangles, as this often resulted in unfavorable outcomes.
Desktop Brush Controls: Brush size can now be adjusted using the “+” and “-” keys on the desktop.
Regularize Brush Fix: The resolution slider was missing from the brush modifier panel.
Voxel Remesh Issue: Fixed an issue where voxel remeshing might not work immediately after inserting primitives.
Rotation Reset for Origin Editing: Resetting the rotation when editing the origin now functions correctly without affecting geometry or child objects.
Full and Single-Axis Reset: Corrected inconsistencies with full and single-axis rotation resets. Group Selection Adjustments:
Prevented location/rotation resets when moving a group selection, avoiding large jumps.
Enabled rotation resets for multi-selected objects with individual origins.
Location and rotation behavior for multi-selection is now uniform.
Context Menu and Controller Input Bug: Resolved an issue where the context menu in scene mode disabled controller buttons and actions.
Thumbnail Glitches: Fixed a bug where reference images in a .sl3d file caused thumbnail glitches, such as images appearing outside the thumbnail square.
Custom Snapping Reference: Resolved an issue where the custom snapping reference failed to update to “scene root” if the designated object was no longer available.
