We're kicking off our technical playtest today, May 23 – a bit differently than planned. [previewyoutube=OeL0vvx32zQ;full][/previewyoutube] Due to a pending approval for the dedicated Playtest App, we've decided to launch the Steam Demo version early instead. This version will be updated continuously based on your feedback and will remain available for about one month, including during Steam Next Fest. What's in the demo? You'll experience a slice of a campaign mission with multiple replayable routes. Each run takes between 30 and 60 minutes. Weapons can be ranked up, and attachments unlocked. What we're looking for:

How well does it run on your system?
Did you encounter any critical bugs or crashes?
Are there design elements you’d like to see improved?
⚠️ This is a work-in-progress. Expect bugs, placeholder content, and unfinished systems. Your input will directly shape how the game evolves. 🐛 Known & Expected Bugs As this is an early work-in-progress build, some issues are known and currently being addressed:

Unresponsive AI Behavior Enemy AI may occasionally fail to react properly. This is often caused by missing information nodes or the inability to find valid cover. We're actively adjusting these systems to strike the right balance between performance and intelligent behavior.
Weapon Rank Display Bug In some cases, the in-game weapon rank may appear to reset or decrease after restarting a mission. This is purely a visual issue — your actual progress and weapon stats remain unaffected.
Audio Mixing Incomplete The overall sound mix is still under development. Expect placeholder audio, inconsistent volume levels, and general imbalance. This is a key area we’ll be improving over the coming weeks.
Gameplay Lag Spikes You may experience minor stutters or lag spikes, particularly when loading new sections of the level. We’re aware of this and working on smoother level streaming and performance optimizations.

More updates, features and improvements! I'm not going to abandon United Assault - Normandy'44! Both games are build with the same code base and allows me to patch new features and improvements from Battle of the Bulge back into Normandy '44. All gameplay, gunplay and AI improvements will find it's way into Normandy'44 as well as several new weapons! If you don't want Battle of the Bulge, you still benefit from its development and get regular news updates.
Looking even more into the future?

The Next Game Survey
I asked on Social Media, Steam and other platforms what you want to see in the future. Here is the evaluation of this survey with 983 participants at the time of evaluation. Click for full screen view The majority of you (60%) want to see a new Singleplayer game developed. The diversity in genres you want to see us develop was a majot supprise. FPS games are by far (35%) the most requested games, as we develop mostly FPS games this is no big surprise. Followed by this are Simulation (14%) and Role Playing (13%) and Third Person Shooter and Action Adventire (12%). Beyond Enemy Lines - The Role Playing experience? How would this sound to you? We will continue to focus on FPS games but will definitly consider developing smaller games in the other genres in the future. We also asked which game you would like to see next. 35% of you want to see a new franchise, 28% a new Beyond Enemy Lines and as United Assault is still a very fresh game it already gathered a respectful 23%. As both Beyond Enemy Lines and United Assault got new content and games revealed in this news, let's jump to the new franchise ... The new franchise We asked for suggestions which game you would like to see. And apparently you have a very clear goal in mind for us. You want to see from us in the future: A Singleplayer FPS with focus on Story, more linear gameplay with occasionally larger areas with more freedom. The games you mentioned where shocklingly simmilar. You frequently Menitioned Golden Eye and other 007 games as well as No One Lives Forever. We will follow your wishes and start concepting a new James Bond/No One Lives Forever like franchise together with you in 2022. More on this will follow next year!

Beyond Enemy Lines 2 will launch with a Multiplayer and so servers are a big topic. You want a quick match with a friend? Just host a Peer-2-Peer (P2P) session from ingame and your friends can join. You want to run a 24/7 Server, then a dedicated server is the best way for you. Dedicated Server Files are included and you can either start them from within your Beyond Enemy Lines 2 installation with the DedicatedServer.exe or the Beyond Enemy Lines 2 Dedicated Server Tool available in the Tools section or for download with SteamCMD. Dedicated Server files are currently only available for Windows. Launching the DedicatedServer.exe will open this window: This window let you setup your server. By pressing "LAUNCH SERVER" your settings will be saved and the server will be started. Starting the DedicatedServer.exe will reload your last saved settings. Changing the gamemode will result in reseting the core options to the gamemode default settings. Server Stats:

Default Tick Rate 60hz
Default Port 7777
IMPORTANT: We had on some systems the issue that opening the Port 7777 was not enought to get the Server registrated on the Steam Master Server. A workaround would be to forward the entire Server.exe trough your firewall. Definitly not an ideal situation but a workaround. The Server.exe to forward is located in this folder: ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Beyond Enemy Lines 2\BeyondEnemyLines2\Binaries\Win64\BeyondEnemyLines2Server.exe The Server Manager opens by clicking Server Manager in the Dedicated Server Launcher and will open up this window: This window let you communicated with your gameserver and is until ingame RCON is fully implemented the only way to interact with your server except of shutting it down. Update Player List This will fill the list of players on the right sight of the window with checkboxes for each player. Kick/Ban Player All selected players in the Player List will be either kicked or banned. End Match Will end the current match and the server will switch to the next map. Server Message Will print a message with the sender Admin to the ingame text chat. Warning: If you execute a new command before the last one was executed, you will overwrite the commands. You can not stack the commands. Each time you press EXECUTE COMMAND, the tool will request the selected options from the server. As the Server is checking every 60 seconds for new commands, it could take up to 60 seconds until you see the result.
Anti-Cheat
VAC Beyond Enemy Lines 2 utilizes VAC to detect cheats and hacks in the game as well as Gameban those players. Anti-Memory Injection All important variables are protected against Memory Injection and the game checks for memory injection tools and will crash once such a tool is running. Server Sided Variables All the important variables which are also projected against memory injection are running on the server. Weapon Handling is entire server sided and only result in actions visible to the server. Beyond Enemy Lines 2 does not deal damage on the client side and let the sever confirm this. Here the server gets a request to shoot a weapon from the client and the server checks the players current location, fires the weapon and broadcasts the result. Global Ban List On each Map change, every Server (Dedicated or P2P trough ingame hosting) will fetch a Polygon Art Ban list. This Ban List contains SteamIDs of players with a game ban. Once a Player joins a server, it's Steam ID gets validated. If invalid the player gets kicked instantly. With each update after the release, the then current ban list will be updated and hard coded in the game as a backup, if the online ban list was not successfully fetched. Warning: Not only cheating and hacking will result in a game ban. Toxic, racist or other inappropriate behavior ingame or in this community can result in a game ban! Active Admin + Local Ban List Server Admins can activly kick and ban players from their server. Server Bans will result in a Local Ban List which works exactly like the Global Ban List but only for this server. This Local Ban List works for Dedicated and Player Hosted P2P Servers.
