For the past seven years, our journey as a small indie publisher from the shores of Australia has been quite momentous. Today marks the biggest stop on that journey so far. A new name. A new vision. A chance for us to stand up and declare our love for games with something important, something special, something weird to say.
Welcome to Fellow Traveller.

Hello Mutant Assault Team!
Hope you are all well. It's been a while since the Monarch Update, and for good reason! Chris has been hard at work polishing up those enemies, adding some new features, and getting ready for the full release of Super Mutant Alien Assault! Today we are happy to announce that the game will leave Early Access this summer, and will also be launching on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One!
When the game leaves Early Access, it will also feature a brand new Endless mode. Endless is truly an endless run: after you beat the third galaxy, the game wraps back around, this time setting the game to Epic difficutly. The objectives are shorter, allowing you to smash through them and raise your score after each completed stage. Looping adds a small twist, the amount of enemy types per level increase, up to a maximum of 4 on the 3rd loop. Health drops and health machines also become rarer the further you progress.
To celebrate the announcement, we just released a brand new trailer, which can be viewed here below.

So not long to go now guys! Thanks to each and every one of you that helped to shape SMAA into the great, fluid game it is today!

The first Super Mutant Alien Assault update for 2016 is here, bringing in a big bad new boss - The Monarch. This beasty brings out a flock of pregnant boss Monarchs. When you destroy each one, they pop open and give birth to another flock of super mutated Monarchs! We're expecting that some will find this hard, others may find it easy. So make sure you leave feedback in [the update thread] so we can adjust the settings over the coming weeks based on your feedback.
The Monarch Update also makes imrpovements to Buzz AI, fixing most of those niggling issues we've had with its pathfidning. While the update may be a little light on content, there are a lot of tweaks made behind the scenes. Chris has updated the game engine to a brand new version, which brought about a number of crazy bugs that needed to be fixed. We've done some internal testing, but if any of you find anything out of the ordinary on your own machines, please throw them in the feedback thread linked above so we can track them down and squash them.
What's on the agenda now? Chris will be balancing this update based on feedback for a short time after release, and then will be pressing on with development. We'll also be hosting some live streams and a form of Q&A session with Chris via our Dojo in the coming weeks, so please stay tuned!
It's also worth noting that today is Australia Day, and being an Australian publisher, we are throwing an Australia Day sale across some of our games. If you're a fan of Super Mutant Alien Assaault, it would be great if you could spread the word, and perhaps you would like to check out some of these games while you're at it:
Dungeon League 20% off: http://store.steampowered.com/app/362310/
Fort Meow - 50% off: http://store.steampowered.com/app/352070/
Also, Hacknet will be having a 48 hour sale at 33% off as part of a Steam daily deal so get in quick on that one!
Until next time.

What a crazy few months it has been. We've been hard at work on this sweet mega update, and we brought Chris across to PAX Australia to showcase the game, and give you all a chance to meet him. Unfortunately illness struck on the third day, and had him bed ridden for the final day of the show, but otherwise it was a smashing success! Thanks to everyone for stopping by the booth and checking out the game.
Today brings our second major content update for Super Mutant Alien Assault - The Space Kraken Update!
This freshly squeezed update is in part based on community feedback. This update is in part directly based on community feedback. There have been multiple requests for more bosses, in particular the number one alien requested to have a boss version made for was the Squid.
We are keen to hear what you think of these new bosses. Are they too hard or too easy? Chris will make some tweaks to them in future updates once we have received some feedback from you lovely people.
The update also include a boss version of The Buzz. These two bosses are unlockable, and once unlocked will now go into the pool of bosses that get randomised for each run. Each boss comes with three levels, one for each galaxy. So while the standard bosses will always appear on their respective galaxies, these new bosses can appear in any galaxy. This definitely helps to add a new random element to a run, as bosses were previously one of the most static parts of the game.
They are fairly early unlocks, so anyone who has already played the game for a few hours will probably unlock one or both of the new bosses on the first level they beat after downloading the update.
Chris has also re-written the pathfinding for The Buzz, so you should notice that they are a little more challenging than before! Of course a number of other tweaks and updates have been added as part of the update!
So log in and get cracking, and make sure you leave us some awesome feedback on the official Space Kraken forum!
Until next time.

Explosions no longer clear acid pool blobs in the air before they hit the ground. They still clear the ground acid pools. This change is most noticeable when using explosions on the Bullfrog Boss.
Faster power on for energy saber. Increased time before it powers down as well.
Energy saber no longer uses ammo when you only hit a wall.
Buzz path-finding completely re-written. The mutant/boss versions will find you in any situation now.

Hello everyone,
First of all, thanks to everyone who has jumped into Super Mutant Alien Assault at launch! It was such a great feeling seeing so many of you slaying the enemies of the galaxy, utilising the crazy weapons, and learning a few things for myself from your videos. Thanks for supporting the release, it really is fantastic!
We're getting ready to release the first major update for SMAA, most of which is based directly on feedback from you wonderful people. Today I wanted to share some of the insane new features that Cybernate has thrown into the build that has been murdering us during testing sessions - seriously, I need to lift my game!
First up we have a brand new weapon, the Mega Chakram! Inspired by a suggestion made by NorthernLion, not to mention the comments in the forums, and the Pulse Chakram being a fan favorite, it was obvious that there needed to be a primary weapon version. Though it couldn’t just hit harder - it needed an extra special something. What can you possibly add to an already perfect weapon? Cluster grenades!
The new Mega Chakram has 6 charges. On impact it releases its customary pulse blast, plus the special magic of cluster grenades. Make no mistake, this is the most dangerous, and chaotic weapon in the game. It should probably be banned. Handle with extreme care.
Chris has also added another primary weapon, the Magnum. To offset the craziness of the Mega Chakram he felt the game needed another more traditional, easy to use weapon. The Magnum was an obvious choice. Predictable, reliable, high damage, moderate fire rate. It’s bullets hit harder than any other weapon in the game. A real pleasure to use. Just mind the kick.
There will also be an update to the Blaster Sidearm. Initial implementation of the blaster was a little rushed. This update brings a new set of sprites and sounds to its overcharged state. Converting to overcharged now looks and feels the part. As does shooting. If you overlooked this weapon previously, give it a second look. Any run with this badboy is interesting, and tactical, if you make good use of special ammo and its overcharge state.
There's going to be a bunch of tweaks and changes in the update outside of these killer new features, but that should be enough to whet your appetites. Speaking to Chris, he is super excited about all of the feedback that is coming from you guys in the Steam threads. Even suggestions that are simply out of the realm of possibility are sparking thoughts in his head.
Without making any promises, the two ideas that are really sticking our right now are the addition of an endless highscore mode. He is also thinking about different robots to have different play styles rather than just cosmetic changes - but as I said, no promises as yet.
So sit tight - the new update is undergoing some final testing and will be in your hands early next week. Until then - keep slaying those aliens, one pogo stick at a time!
