A mysterious new option has appeared in Hyphen’s main menu on our dev machines… Community Levels. What could they be for? And perhaps more importantly… how will you create them? We’ve got something new cooking for Hyphen, and it’s coming soon. This is just the first little tease.

A few days ago we announced that Hyphen would be returning to Steam. Well... it's official. Hyphen is back on Steam and available to purchase again! It's been a very long time since new players were able to pick up the game, so it feels a little strange (but very exciting) to fin

Hyphen is back on Steam and available to purchase again!
It's been a very long time since new players were able to pick up the game, so it feels a little strange (but very exciting) to finally see that purchase button back on the store page.
Over the years we've had messages from people asking where Hyphen went, whether it would ever come back, and if there was still any way to play it. We never forgot about those messages, and we're really pleased that we can finally say the game is available again.
We haven't tried to reinvent the game or turn it into something it wasn't.
Our goal with bringing Hyphen back has simply been to preserve the original game while making sure it works properly on modern hardware.
The recent update included:
Improved performance and compatibility for Steam Deck.
Support for modern display resolutions and improved image quality.
Updated controller support, with the correct button glyphs automatically displayed for Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam Deck/SteamOS controllers.
Improved support for Linux players through Proton.
Removal of a few legacy features that made considerably more sense in 2013 than they do in 2026!
Underneath all of that, though, it's still Hyphen.
Same levels. Same gameplay. Same challenge. And yes, probably the same levels that frustrated you all those years ago.
One of the nicest parts of preparing the game for its return has been seeing people talk about Hyphen again.
For a relatively small game released all those years ago, it's genuinely lovely to know that people still remember it.
So, to everyone who played Hyphen originally: welcome back.
And to anyone discovering the game for the first time: good luck!

We're pleased to announce that Hyphen is returning to Steam.
Over the years we've received many messages asking if the game would ever be available again. The answer is yes. While the store page isn't live for new customers just yet, we've been working behind the scenes to ensure Hyphen is ready for modern systems before it returns.
Existing customers may have noticed an update to the game today (07/08/2026). This update focuses on improving compatibility and bringing Hyphen up to modern standards, while preserving the original gameplay experience.
Improved performance and compatibility for Steam Deck.
Removed legacy graphical restrictions, allowing the game to take advantage of modern display resolutions and improved image quality.
Updated controller support so the correct button glyphs are displayed automatically for your controller and platform, including Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam Deck/SteamOS.
Retired the native Linux build. Going forward, Linux players will use the Windows version through Proton, providing a more consistent and better-supported experience.
Removed legacy features such as the "Brag" option upon completion of a level, that was cool in 2013, not so much now!
Our goal has always been to preserve the original Hyphen experience while ensuring it continues to run well on today's hardware.

Your support and enthusiasm have meant a great deal to us, and we're looking forward to making Hyphen available to purchase again very soon.

Thanks to the awesome FNA project we have ported Hyphen to Linux! The game is pretty much exactly the same as the Windows counterpart minus a couple of tweaks we needed to do for graphical compatibility and audio. Enjoy, and we're pleased to be on Linux!
Much to our delight - Hyphen has been played and featured by popular YouTuber Nerd³. We're extremely proud of this and are extremely grateful for the exposure it's given us! Video:-
Hyphen now has a Deaths leaderboard (not in game just in the Steam client for the time being). Not many people are on it yet as it we've pushed an update and it requires you to launch the updated version of the game and die to get your deathcount on the leaderboard. It will be in
We've added a global death counter to the main Hyphen page on our website just for kicks. It shows how many times everyone who owns Hyphen on Steam combined has died in game in real time. It's at over 12k deaths already in the short time that Hyphen has been live!
