Gather your friends and join the fun with some new updates to the game! You will notice that this playtest is not like our other tests. This playtest will be a PvE test with two difficulty modes that you will be able to choose from: Adventure and Core. It will also be smaller than our previous playtests, as this will serve as a prototype for a Demo we will be releasing later this year.🙌
All servers will be open for the playtest, and you can find the start and end dates below:

💬 LOCALIZATION:
We're happy to announce that Vaultbreakers will be localized in the following languages: Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Russian, Polish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean. Japanese will also come a little later.
✨ PVE MODE:
We have made a PvE mode for when you don’t want to engage in fighting other players. We offer two difficulty modes for PvE and one for PvPvE.
This Playtest will be a PvE-only test, focusing on the Core & Adventure modes.
Adventure PvE - Co-op: a great way to get used to the world of Vaultreakers before jumping to Core.
Core PvE - Co-op: More challenging than Adventure, but you’ll be able to get rarer loot, more experience, and complete Core Challenges.
Breaker (Locked) PvPvE - Co-op: Face real opponents, progress faster, and get more loot of greater rarity!

Across all our tests, the top critique and proposal has been the need to learn and progress without constant PvP pressure. We started working on a solution several months ago, and it’s now ready. You’ll now be able to switch difficulty any time before jumping on a mission, choosing between:
Adventure PvE - Co-op: a great way to get used to the world of Vaultreakers before jumping to Core.
Core PvE - Co-op: More challenging than Adventure, but you’ll be able to get rarer loot, more experience, and complete Core Challenges.
Breaker PvPvE - Co-op: Face real opponents, progress faster, and get more loot of greater rarity!
Adventure and Core modes offer a safer path to growth, while Breaker mode raises the stakes, adding other players to the equation and dramatically increasing rewards and experience.
🌿Next Playtest - Adventure & Core:
Our next Playtest (which will start on July 22nd - originally planned for June 29th) will be slightly different from the others. It will be a PvE-only test, focusing on the Core & Adventure modes.
For those of you who are PvP enthusiasts, fear not, the Playtest that follows after the PvE test will include all modes.

These modes will only dilute your existing community!
The main friction points measured in previous feedback forms were regarding forced PvP and brutal onboarding. This new feature will allow different kinds of players to experience the game to their liking and learn the game before they deal with other experienced players. We think this feature will have a greater positive effect in the long term, allowing players to get comfortable with the game first before seeking more challenges and rewards in harder modes.
Can I play “Adventure” mode in Co-op with my friend playing “Core”?
Yes, you can. However, everyone in the party will need to play at Core difficulty to be able to loot Supreme and Legendary gear.
Will I be able to use my gear obtained in “Adventure” mode in “Breaker” mode?
Yes, you will, it’s lower risk and lower reward. You can e.g. play some less tense core mode and prepare to play with your friends in the evening on Breaker. You can also play exclusively on Breaker and earn recognition from climbing high in the exclusive Breaker Challenges.
Breaker difficulty does not mention what will happen to my gear and items/materials when I die. Will I get any of it, or will everything be lost on death?
You lose everything you have, with the exception of some bonuses (like the 50% materials one, and also two new ones).
If there is only PvE, won’t I progress quicker than in PvPvE since other players are not stopping me?
We have increased XP requirements so that playing on Breaker with 200% XP will result in the speed we had in previous tests. Playing on the PvE difficulties will then be significantly slower. Breaker is higher risk, higher reward. Progress can be faster, but it’s less predictable. Other players aren’t always a threat; they can open paths or even help, making each run more dynamic.
Can I change the difficulty anytime?
You can change difficulty freely before starting a mission, but not during a run.
Why is the next Playtest PvE only?
We’re running a longer PvE-focused playtest to better improve onboarding, progression, and PvE balance. That’s much easier to manage without PvP, which can be really hard in a longer test. This sets the stage for a larger PvP test afterwards, giving players time to learn and prepare.

PvP fest Playtest Patch Notes
This update kicks off our newest playtest. We’ve added a handful of new features, balance changes, QoL improvements, bug fixes, and this week, you will be able to experience all of this. As always, we would love to hear your thoughts and feedback, as it helps us improve the game

Mission & Map
Performance, loading and memory usage improvements
Improved water rendering

Reworked the main questline up to the first Vaultbreak event.
Many quest rewards reworked to support new Ability Items
Darkness rework
New darkness effect and behavior added to the Elemental and Gondrak caves
Torches added to maps in Darkness areas, but darkness radius is now smaller
New Spirit Artifact added to the second Vault
Refinery map extended in size (new mini areas are coming soon!)

All health bars are now green, so they do not impart information about if a given entity is an enemy or a friend. You will have to find that out in other ways!
Wounds are dark green, so they do not appear similar to shields, and are thematically better linked to health.
Party members’ names now appear in blue in missions as well (this was only the case in the Haven before)
Added primary quest line icons to differentiate primary quests and other quests in the world
Hopefully, this helps players make easier decisions about what to pursue when in doubt
Combat Balance
Vaultbreaker abilities available from the start have been reworked
Gear slots reworked
Ability items added for deeper playstyle expression and customization:

Balance changes for playable Vaultbreakers:
Dev comment: With so many new Ability Items added, the balance is hard to predict. We’ve tried tweaking some things based on the last test, but not overreacting too much before we see how Ability Items affect the game. For the changes, the big outliers last test were Nymera being too strong and Lumiri being too weak. Lumiri’s energy re-cast rework was a bit too demanding. Nymera's ultimate was a bit too strong for PvP when staggered.
Nymera Ult - Emerald Barrage damage delay time from 0.1 to 0.3
Nymera Ult - Emerald Barrage projectiles 5 to 4
Nymera Ult - Can no longer be rotated while channeling
Nymera Perk - Soaring Strike less invulnerability duration on cast from 1 to 0.5s
Lumiri perk - Sharp Leaves - Damage increased from 80 to 120 and scaling from 70% to 100%
Lumiri - Piercing Overgrowth. No recast. Base version doubles Shooty Flowers.
Lumiri - Basic attack and flower attack energy gain increased from 2 to 4.
Lumiri Perk - Empowered Discount energy reduction reduced from 50 to 25.
Lumiri Perk - Energizing Touch to 50 to 25 energy per hit.
Thora - Rager whirl pulls in (reverse knockback) enemies
Bjornir - Wild Swing energy gain reduced from 20 to 10
Bjornir - Basic attack has energy gain on hit from 0 to 5
Bjornir - Basic attack hold self slow increased from 20% to 25%
Sparkwing Perk - Empowered Vortex base damage increase from 50 to 150
Balance changes for enemies:
Dev comment: We are tweaking enemies in Wolfswood to have less health and be fewer in numbers overall, but will deal a bit more damage, so the difficulty is still similar. Some enemies will have very little health and won’t drop any loot. They should be quick and satisfying to clear. Others will be threats with higher damage, but will also drop loot. And then we have the real threatening enemies that you have to watch out for. With higher health, higher damage but also better loot. You can tell them apart by their healthbars.

Dev comment: Storage space and storage pressure are something we are constantly considering. We are planning a bigger revamp of storage in one of the coming updates (making it less restrictive), but we want to already ease the pressure mid-to-late game now.
Storage upgrades now only cost gold
Dev comment: In line with the Gold Stack change, we want to make it easier to upgrade storage space early, and the very specific materials needed were slowing that down. This change is part of the bigger revamp that is coming for storage, but it was something we could easily do now.
Junk item types updated
Updates made to hover states on multiple item types, and info communicated
Most importantly, you can now see the item that a crafting recipe creates (yes, we know, groundbreaking stuff!)
Haven
Haven building reward structures updated
Forced choices removed on upgrade paths
Dev comment: We love when players have to make choices, especially when they are something that might lead to different choices in future seasons. But the upgrades we tried out for the buildings didn’t feel impactful enough, or they felt too one-sided and subsequently the choice just felt annoying.
Some recipes can now be learned directly through the inventory by reading recipe books
Crafting items and unlocking paths updated
Challenges now unlock at 50 Leyline energy
Vaultbreaker abilities added to Vaultbreakers Select screen

Loading tips updated to reflect the current design and lore
Bjornir replaced Thora as the wishlist unlockable character
New players were incentivized to try out this new Vaultbreaker they just unlocked, and Thora was not a good fit for that.
Key binding options updated
Among other things, we have removed the game using the universal back command to exit menus, because players were experiencing issues using the side buttons on their mouse for Discord or similar use while playing. This means that you will have to use the Esc button instead of the side button “back” to exit menus, if you used that before.
All Perks for a given Vaultbreaker are now visible -with tooltip information- in the Perks screen, with additional information about when and how to unlock them if relevant
Codex Feature
Complete challenges to gain Legacy and Marks that you can use to claim rewards in the Codex
All rewards are kept between tests, and after launch (this means everything you unlock now is yours forever)
All Legacy and Marks you have when a test ends are also kept between tests and after launch

The Codex is intended to be the game’s meta progression layer, and hopefully will give you lots of interesting choices and things you would like to claim. Nothing offered in the Codex is intended to be inherently more powerful than what you otherwise obtain. It is gameplay variation and options for building the exact Vaultbreaker you want to play. Known Issues:
When a player leaves a trio or duo party, player queues are not automatically adjusted.
3rd Party tools such as VPNs, geo and latency blockers can cause players to be locked out at 1000 ping.
Quest progress doesn't track items equipped in the consumable slot, only from inventory and storage.
There have been some instances of players returning to a previous match they have been in on requeuing.
Thora cooldown and animations can fall out of sync
Gamepad can rotate camera regardless of Camera Movement Mode setting
Vision does not return after using a movement ability during looting. Repeating it will restore vision
In rare instances, a Changeling can spawn into a match with you on your team.

NEW PLAYERS:
We are looking for new players to record their first hour of gameplay during the test, which would help us improve the game even further for future playtests, especially for newer players. This will basically give us a new player's POV during the recordings. You can send your recordings to us on Discord.
Leaderboard Challenge ($25 Steam Voucher + a VB Beanie):
The Top 1 player from each server with the most challenges completed will earn themselves a $25 Steam voucher and a @Vault VIP role in our Discord Server. In the case of multiple players with the maximum points in a server, we will select the winner at random.
We also have one Vaultbreakers Beanie to give away to one lucky winner. Players with 60 completed challenges will be placed in a draw to win this comfy prize!

Our upcoming playtest, which was originally scheduled for November, has been rescheduled for DECEMBER 4th to 7th.

🗓️ Why is the Playtest rescheduled?
Vaultbreakers was once something else, and so was the cloud it was running on. For this test, we have made the first changes necessary to the cloud to build everything we want for release. In more detail, this includes how we start and stop the servers that enable you to play the game together, making sure we are on the right track to handle cheating and the option to drop into games. We’re using this extra time to fine-tune these changes, and we’ll use this upcoming Playtest to check how they are working 🙏
🗒️ What is Drop-in?:
One of our biggest features for this playtest! If you don’t know what Drop-in is, it is when you or your party will enter an ongoing game. This means no more queue time! When searching for a game, the system will check if a mission started recently with an empty slot. If not, it will create a new one from the start. We will provide more info about Trios and Vaultbreaking in the days to come. Additionally, we also have bug fixes, QoL updates, balance updates, and other smaller content being added to this playtest. The full patch notes will be posted just before the start of the playtest. ❤️
✨ Drop-in FAQ:
Here’s a quick rundown about the new drop-in system.
Drop-in will make it too hard to complete quests and boss runs if you join late.
Following your concerns, we decided to increase the mission’s duration from 15 minutes to 20 minutes. Also, the encroaching circle will start later.
Spawning too close to other players?
The system always makes sure you drop far away from other players when entering a map.
Loot, bosses, and other POI will already be done if I drop in late.
Drop-ins only happen during the first 5 minutes of a match. After that, no new players join. We’re also experimenting with having some POIs appear over time to keep things interesting and tense.
Why drop in at all?
The huge advantage is more tension and variation, because there will be more players in each mission. This increases tension as you have to be more alert and reactive. We believe the game is the most fun when you react to others (not necessarily fighting them), but hiding, stalking, helping, ambushing, avoiding, etc… All of that happens much more when there are more players. This essentially allows for more modes, such as trios, while still having a high chance of many players.

Meet the Camp Manager, who is in charge of building up the Haven. He will give you quests to upgrade your Haven and resources to help you build the buildings. He might even help you with some other Haven QoL things later down the line
Garrik:
He is another updated NPC model that you already know and have interacted with in the Haven. This is the new Garrik, a mysterious old hunter who has a bit of a twist when you hear him talk to you. 🐺
